George W. Bush gets jiggy wit it-- Dallas police memorial edition

He used to be part-owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team. Surely that should qualify him.

I know the linked video is only 1 minute, but I had similar thoughts.

Dubya gave a brief speech at the funeral and seemed reasonably coherent. Or at least coherent enough to read his remarks off of a piece of paper. So this is just more confirmation that Dubya is a dimwitted asshole. He doesn’t understand or care that this is a somber occasion. If he feels like dancing, Dubya’s gonna dance. Screw the grieving families.

Poor Laura.

Bullshit. Obama got political at funeral for dead police officers. You do not lecture at a funeral.

From his remarks:

No great President would ever make political arguments at a funeral!

By the way, here’s what Obama actually said about the Dallas Police Department:

As for the topic of this thread, it just makes me feel bad for Laura.

He could have dementia , it look like he has some kind of memory loss.

There’s a long tradition in church to gently sway and move to the music. It’s how people feel and respond to music. That’s all Bush was doing.

The others looked pretty odd standing there like stone statutes. Obama woke up and started moving too. Biden never woke up. standing there in a zombie trance.

I wonder if the blue suit was some sort of misguided tribute to the “blue” fallen?

I honestly don’t know what to make of it in regards to GWB, but I’ll admit to having a very hard time standing still to that hymn. It demands movement. If this was played at a funeral at my church, I would be doing something very similar. Furthermore, playing it at a funeral is a reminder (to me at least) that Christianity teaches that death is a temporary loss, with an eternal reward at the end. I know we have posters here who say “Fuck you and your prayers” but it’s a genuine belief for many people.

Honestly, a lot of it reminds me of what happens whenever you get a lot of Christians from diverse churches together. Some of them dance in the pews, others shout Amen, others stand stock still. They all think they’re doing the right thing for the occasion. Normally, I say it’s all good.

But… on a national stage like this in what is not precisely a religious service? I, at least, would be more reserved and try to fit in better.

On the other hand, if you look to the right end of the stage, at least one of those people are also moving their hands with the music. The camera moves before we can get a good sense of what is happening over there. Are there any wider shot versions of the same moment?

That was the Bush Somber Memorial Dance.

But he was right. No institution is entirely immune to racism. Not even many police departments. The Dallas P.D. has made progress and the police chief and the officers deserve a lot of respect for how they handled the active shooting situation, but departments are staffed by human beings, not RoboCop. And the crowd didn’t act as if they were being lectured to, they broke into applause numerous times.

From the President’s speech:

Yes, this. He’s an idiot and a douchebag. Good reminder.

GWB even sounds like a drug.

It’s the “dotted rhythm” – imagine quick sets of three beats, with the first beat stressed, nothing on the second beat (or, the stressed note held for two beats), and the third note played but unstressed.

It’s what makes Mick shake his thing to the Stones’ “Midnight Rambler,” and Bill and Hillary get the place jumpin’ to Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop.”

Oh, for fuck’s sake. Of course people lecture at funerals. It happens all the goddamned time. This rule of yours is not a thing.

Good to see that BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) is still quite strong among the smartest and hippest. Even after nearly seven and a half years of the affirmative action President.

I know, right? We’ve almost completely recovered from Bush’s derangement thanks to the affirmative actions taken by President Obama, but some posters just can’t see that. We’ll get 'em, though.
