Probably the most famous American political speech ever was a eulogy: the Gettysburg Address.
It took me about 24 hours, but I finally figured out what this whole spectacle reminded me of.
Mel Torme singing to Kramer. Especially the moment in the video when GWB looks over at Michelle and starts singing at her (0:35-0:38 in the OP video). And W’s facial expression during the whole thing looks like he either got punched in the face by Jimmy in the hallway or was still experiencing the effects of Novocaine.
Believe me, I am not a GWB apologist.
In the clips I have seen, the music has been a quiet afterthought in the background, but if you listen, that is a rich arrangement* of an already stirring song. He was standing right in front of the choir. Have you ever been in the middle of a swell of live music? It’s a very enveloping, physical sensation. He was moved by the music.
*Sounds to me like Wilhousky. It’s gorgeous.
I see that you don’t understand the difference between a presidential election and a policy known as affirmative action, and I’d like to help. Here is some light reading to get you started.
I didn’t know its easier to buy a glock than a book. I gotta look into that.
I went back & looked again. I SWEAR that suit has some purple to it.
Again, this is Dubbya’s zoot suit.
This is a purple suit on google that’s close to it.
Absolutely. And that’s something that needs to be highlighted, especially at the funeral of five white cops who were murdered in cold blood by a black racist.
That, and Stevie Wonder jokes.

If you’re implying that Obama got more votes due to his race, political scientists have shown just the opposite.
Fleetwood is still bitter that Obama stole what would have been his place on the Harvard Law Review. It’s okay, Fleetwood – you can still publish that scintillating legal essay that never got to see the light of day, right here on the Dope!
I think he needed to pee and was having trouble holding it in.
I cannot see how anyone could justify his behavior here. That was no somber sway. Everyone around him looked baffled but they regained composure quickly. Mrs. Obama gave him a smile, Mr. Obama looked away with a bit of an eye roll, Mrs. Bush looked mortified, and Biden honestly looked so sad there’s no telling what was going through his mind. People behind laughed. In my opinion he looked toasted and giddy. That is not a normal way to behave, I don’t care who you are. I am not a political person and even if I was, he’s not really important politically anymore. I just see a guy behaving weirdly at a serious occasion. To me he looks toasted.
I’m no fan of his, but I concur with a couple of previous posts that he looks (to me) like there’s something neurological going on with him. Poor Laura.
He’s fucked up. No nookie later that night.
I’m not sure I made my point though: Who wears Purple to a Funeral for 6 Cops?
“Its not about the money… its about… its About… the Message…”
As someone who hated Bush as a president, my only comment is that people who get bent out of shape over how a 70 year old man behaves at a memorial service are weird.
Um, no, we are not weird. When an ex-president who happens to be a 70 year old man behaves at a memorial like he did, he outta be kicked square in the nutz, stripped of his clothes, covered in honey, tied to a pillar and pelted with McNuggets. He’s a rodeo clown and should be treated/remembered as such.
See, this is what I mean. I think it is extremely odd to be this worked up (or worked up at all) about this. Oh, well. Obviously, YMMV.
You’re right Clark Cello. I shouldn’t be upset about the tens of thousands of lives that this Jag-Off and his stooge Dick Cheney toasted and the ramifications that continue to this day. Sorry if I offended your sensibilities.
No, I specifically said that I find it odd that people are offended about the behavior at the memorial service. Did you not read the part where I said I hated him as a president? You can be mad as you want about that, and I won’t judge you at all.
John Mellencamp agrees with you.
