IANAL, but theoretically, I’d think yes. He would still be a black youth, though, and facing all the inherent racism in the legal system of the area, but unless it was an all-white jury, I think he’d have a decent chance of getting the same result as GZ at trial.
Wasn’t there a case around the same time as Zimmerman where a white youth attacked a black man with a knife? If I remember correctly the black man shot the youth and was subsequently convicted of murder.
Without a lot more details, I wouldn’t consider that to be predictive.
Details aren’t really the same, but the biggest difference I see is that it’s a different state. So, I’m sticking with “not predictive” for what would have happened in FL. And I wouldn’t accept ThingProgress’s interpretation at face value, either.
If you want to point out that blacks and whites often receive different treatment in the court system, I wont argue with that. That’s one reason I stipulated a jury that was not all-white.
