Fill in the blank: The one person who can always make me smile is ______________.
What’s the last CD you listened to? Movie/TV show you watched? Book you read?
What’s your earliest memory?
Incidentally, The Last of the High Kings is one of the two Christina Ricci movies I’ve been meaning to rent. (The other is Buffalo '66.) Sadly, neither my roommate nor I have a VCR and the only public one in the dorm is in our basement, which constantly smells of old wet socks.

5 I have memories (vague though they be) of dragging around a kanaka knife with my puppy in two while wearing a grass skirt. This was inPapua New Guinea so I must have been 2-4 years old.
Oh, no fair telling us your real job until you share your fantasy job.
Emily Dickinson isn’t embarrassing, save for the whole, you know, being dead part. Posh Spice on the otherhand…
That’s infinitely cooler than my first memory! (I have a vague memory of talking to my mom on the phone while she was at the hospital after the birth of my little sister. I was about two and a half.)

I’m an intermittant fixture here (sounds like bad plumbing, hmmm?) but a lot of new folks are on board since the last “who are you?” thread…
TVeblen is short for Thorstein Veblen, an eccentric Gilded Age economist who identified conspicuous consumption. Contrary to rumor, I am (1)female and (2) don’t have a beard. The nick is weird, but appropriate even if it was chosen in newbie-hysteria.
I am a librarian by occupation and avocation. Academic background is a BA and MA in Anthropology, i.e. I’m a hopeless generalist and research animal. Lacking taste and patience for academic infighting, I chose the less feral venue of public employment. Translation: a reference librarian who was wrenched from the joy of researching stuff for real people for the doubtful rewards of administration.
Sigh. I’m the director of a mid-sized public library in the midwest. Somehow love of books and research got hijacked into budgets, committees, policies, etc.
External details: female, tall (tall!; 5’11" barefoot); dark hair; dark eyes; reasonably slender.
Internal: deep, abiding love of books; I read because I can’t bear not to. TV and movies are just frills; print is my passion, though SDMB and its denizens have lured me away to an amazing degree.
Otherwise: love animals; hate cant and arguing; Taurus (bull, right? apt, that!); prefer red wine and iced tea (not together); can’t dance (Serendiptity was kind: even my mom called me a giraffe on skates); have met very few people I haven’t liked.

We already know your dream job. What’s your real job?
Tech support at a help desk, talking to idiots routinely. Only deal with them when I have to. Like my brother-in-law. His daughter just got a PC (she’s 7, I think she’s already smarter than him). He was told to go to a website - he calls me they got stuck at a logan screen. After 5 minutes, I realize it was a LOG IN screen. I can’t avoid this moron, he’s family Help.

Hmm, several unrequited lusts…can’t really have a crush without knowing someone at least a little, right?

Name any embarrassing celebrity crushes.
I’m in love with Lou Reed, I don’t care how ugly he is I want him bad.
Fill in the blank: The one person who can always make me smile is ______________.
Oooh, this one is hard, I’m a smile slut. Of course, TinyTot can always get one out of me, even if he’s in trouble which I hate. And all of my friends, which is why they are my friends. On the board, I’d say Canadian Sue, Globe-Trotter, Coldy, evilbeth and of course Cubby, are the ones guaranteed to say or do something to make me smile.
What’s the last CD you listened to? Movie/TV show you watched? Book you read?
Last CD was the Magnolia soundtrack. I can’t remember the last tv show or movie, must not have been any good. I’m currently readin “The Making of a Chef” which is fascinating…tells all about this writer’s experience at the CIA. Before that I read “Never Finished: A History of American Housework” which was very interesting indeed.
What’s your earliest memory?
Going to the park to feed ducks with my Grandparents on the day my sister was born, I was 17 months old. I can remember how strange it felt to be with these new people since we had just arrived from Korea and I didn’t know them at all…and then, to top it off, I was no longer #1! Oh, the indignity!
Weird, but apparently more common than you realize…my degree is in Biology with an emphasis in Evolutionary Biology and paleontology. I currently work as a programmer/analyst.
Hmm… maybe I should get this chain of coincidence checked out…one of my best O/L friends is a teacher, my best friend in HS did some time as an associate prof., Wy is a teacher…and it apparently runs in the family, so is my sister-in-law…
I never got around to introducing myself originally either, so I guess I might as well do it now…hello all! I don’t have a whole lot of time, so here are some random details about me…
My real name is Sonya, most of my friends and family call me Sony (as in Walkman) which comes from kindergarden when one of the boys decided that Sony Baloney sounded better than Sonya Bologna. Y’all can call me pretty much any thing you feel is appropriate. I just turned 29 a couple of weeks ago, am currently single but am not doing much to cure that condition at the moment. I live in Alameda, CA which is between San Francisco and Oakland. My fantasy job is to be an independently wealthy novelist. Of course I’d have to write something longer than 3 pages to actually get there, so it could take a while. I’m another one of those computer geeks with an unrelated degree, good old brit lit from USC. For my real job I am a software quality engineer. I’ve been lurking a lot, but not posting much because I’ve been testing a browser, but it captures everything I type, and some of this stuff I’m not sure I really want my colleagues to see. I have started posting from home lately, so I should be popping up a little more. I definitely prefer hot chocolate to cold soda, and it’s even better if it’s a rainy night and I’m reading a cheesey murder mystery. I should probably get back to work now. I hope to be chatting more with you all soon.
