Get me out of the house in the MMP

Did more s.p.a.-ing, since the SSLAw was screwed up. And the supervisor stole my crayon. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: Also some customer is getting a hefty bill. They entered the weight of the 6"X9" bubble mailer as 110lbs. :grimacing:

Yankees are weird.(Says the kid from Milwaukee :yum: :kissing_heart:). I have a nice tray, and a Rubbermaid one for tailgates.

Nettie, Boo, stay safe. I’m on the outside edge of the wintery stuff for this week.

You should consider yourself lucky. Most of the time when women dream about me, it involves me being tortured and killed.

Nah, I wouldn’t either. Good choice.

Took me an hour to make what should be a 15 minute drive to my daughter’s to do Harriet Basement School (they both work/teach from home and her preschool is closed because too many teachers are Covid quarantined to staff the place). Grrrr…a kind stranger pushed me out of the ruts of unplowed snow in front of my house and then it was slip-slide-wheels spin-creep. My neighborhood (the poor folks) hasn’t been plowed once~her neighborhood (the rich and powerful folks) has been plowed twice, but the city government always assures us that every area rich or poor gets equal services…not. I’ve got eyes and certainly wasn’t born yesterday.

Public school has been closed for three days, I can’t remember the last time that happened. By now it’s been an over 15” record January snowfall. Pretty and Hattie loves playing in it, mostly scoops up handfuls and eats’ em. Although yesterday she also just leaned over and stuck her face in the snow and chowed down. It was so deep, up to her crotch, so she couldn’t walk. She just stayed wherever her Saskatchewan dad planted her until she leaned over into the snow ‘surf’ and ‘swam’ out. We finally carried her inside when none of us could stand it any longer. I plopped her in a nice warm bath and thawed her out then, straight into snuggly jammies and a fluffy robe afterwards, even though it was only 4:30pm. That made it easier for her parental units come bedtime, by which time Grandma-nanny would be far away in her humble unplowed out cottage.

Every day I’ve woken up this week I think it’s Thursday. Even Monday I woke up thinking it was Thursday. Ah, well. I guess I get another two days to enjoy the fact that overlygirl is at school and not doing handstands next to my desk.

I do have some good news…overlymom has been scheduled for her first dose of 'rona vaccine Monday! I’m terrified to go near her until she gets the jab (and until it has an opportunity to take hold), but since I’m driving her I guess that’s not an option. But, the closer we get to her health being protected, the happier and more dangerously hopeful I become.

My only sad spot for the day is that I’ve run out of coffee and I’m hesitant to make another pot because I’d rather not try to listen to people while I have the shakes from over-caffeination. And either one is an okay problem to have.

This may be a silly question from a non-coffee-drinker, but can’t you make a pot of decaf when you don’t want the shakes? If I want a diet coke in the evening, I go with the decaf version, and it satisfies without keeping me up all night.

FCD and I have rearranged his office. Since he gave Daughter the desk and computer she was using, half the room was not being used. So we moved 2 sets of shelves, a file cabinet, then brought in a table for the printer (no longer on the file cabinet - huzzah!!) There’s even space with the 3-D printer cabinet in there.

And now we’ve got several containers of cables to sort thru, including CAT5, CAT6, USB, and HDMI - a veritable alphabet soup! We’ve also got a set of 3 phones (base unit plus 2 more) that need a new home. We don’t have a land line here, but I’m sure someone somewhere could use them. I hope. Or they’ll go to a thrift store.

We’re going to lunch at Salsa’s, assuming we can get it. They can only seat at reduced capacity - duh - but I’m hoping that at lunch during the work week, it shouldn’t be a problem. We’ll find out in about half an hour.

Meanwhile, I surf.

I could, but that would make too much sense.

Actually, now that you’ve said that, I should probably get some decaf beans just in case. Sometimes I just want the taste and the warmth without the tremors (and an excuse to put heavy cream in something because drinking it straight might be considered odd).

What’s odd? Drinking heavy cream? Just say you’re testing your gallbladder function. No, I’m not kidding.

For those that heard about the big three-loaf storm out this way, well for me, it was a single bagel. Just rain, no howling wind, and despite the repeated EBS alerts on TV, no floods or other calamities. Not saying other people didn’t have mudslides or floods, just none here.

I just had a nice annual review. In our new simplified system, I am tagged overall as MEETS, which means I’m doing everything I should and there are a couple categories where I EXCEEDS, but not enough to tip the overall score. Considering I gave food to 263 families last week, and PWAISDN’s ongoing “Can I work this week?” challenges, I’ll take it!

Once had a small bowlful of straight heavy cream with cereal (no milk, but cream in the fridge that needed using up) and thought I’d died & gone to heaven.

Matter of fact …

High five! :medal_military: :trophy:

See, this is how I know I’ve found the right place - people encouraging me to drink one of the things I enjoy the most.

When I was a little kid and my sister and I were asking for dessert, sometimes my mom would throw a bunch of fresh strawberries in a bowl, dust them with sugar, then pour heavy cream on top. It was one of the best desserts I can ever remember having, and I don’t know why I haven’t made my children try it.

Speaking of furniture, our new living room chair and couch are both scheduled to arrive today.

These were ordered from two different companies three weeks apart, with wildly different delivery estimates. And they’re both showing up on the same day.

Both also require assembly, and now that I’m going back to work Saturday I have two days to get it all done. Guess I know what I’m doing for the rest of my time off.

Oh, found this at the bottom of last week’s MMP:

No can do, sugar cookie. Trying to PM you here just brings up “user profile is hidden” or something along those lines.

You can PM me through here, though. Happy to have Dopers as FB friends, especially Mumpers, since all y’all know all my shit by now anyway, and won’t be startled by my many pictures of food I cooked, my cats, or the occasional African soft-furred rats.

I don’t post Pretzel pics very often. You’d think I owned an Ebola-infested man-eating tarantula by the reactions.

I’m sure that as snakes go, she’s quite nice. Some of us just have irrational phobias.

DH’s irkplace remains closed today. He just got bombed with texts on the subject, including two managers saying different things. They did get on the same page, with “don’t come in, it’s not safe” being consensus. I wound up emailing Hades Annex, both sup and grandboss getting copied, since I kept getting a busy signal on the call-out line. I’d best not get pushback on not coming in on a day that includes screwed-up transit, lots of wind-blown debris flying around, and widespread power outages that will be affecting traffic lights.

I gladly write you a note as an excused absence. I have really good cursive.

Just don’t write the note for Typhoid Mary and I’ll be happy. My mother did that a few times when I was in grade school, as frequently as I brought home whatever was going around and gave it to her.

Good evening all

Went to the dentist for a scheduled checkup. Had to rinse with some not-very-good tasting stuff, then another fluid, for one minute (she timed me) and then she took my temperature. Fun times.

Unfortunately the dentist found a cavity so I have to go back to get it filled. Rinse and repeat.

And the snow that was supposed to turn into rain forgot to change. So there’s a bunch of white stuff out there. Fortunately we got home from the dentist before it got too bad, even though we still went for a walk in the stuff.

First time I’ve been in Luzern since January 4th, and the newest restrictions started on the 18th. Lot fewer people wandering around, but still some people can’t figure out masks.

Yesterday I went to the grocery store and there was an unmasked woman buying masks. She said she didn’t have any. How does someone manage that?

Got emails from the different accountants that it’s that time of year again, so this weekend we’ll be collecting papers for that. Hmm. If I’m going to the store tomorrow, I should probably make a list tonight. That would make sense, right?

Have a good day, for those who still have daylight.

Literally.

ISWYDT

It’s 11:51 Central daylight time US, just for context. Still too snowbound to go out for walks~my poor car can barely make it anywhere in town. I’m staying put at my daughter’s tonight so I can be sure to be here again tomorrow morning to do child care for her and dear son-in-law. This morning’s treacherous drive was too difficult for me to want a repeat performance.

I have to accomplish one (1) administrative task today, within the next hour or two. I have so far managed to fire up the laptop & stare at the login screen.

There’s soup in the microwave to help me procrastinate further. Gotta eat!

I’m brave and stuff, but tasks like this turn me into a whimpering coward. What’s wrong with me? Did I use up all my strength or something?

Went to the Corner Sto’ earlier, to help with procrastination options. Dude hanging around was politely trying to bum a ride to a very nearby location, and since my plans involved sitting around doing nothing at home, and/or Task I Don’t Wanna Hafta Do, I was grateful for the opportunity to help someone out at virtually zero cost to me.

He was visibly, painfully hung over. Needed a ride to a nearby motel to get his deposit money back, since in his inebriated state he’d managed to rent two rooms, at two different motel.

He didn’t at all mind me getting one helluva good laugh at his predicament, and gave me a couple bucks for the ride.

Don’t have any answers except I have a very severe case of the same thing and have for months.

Lunch at Salsa’s was good. Dinner here will be sparse as even their lunch portions are generous. When we got back, I helped FCD move 320# of pellets (8 bags) to his shop. Then I took the recycling from his shop to the garage and the wood scraps from his shop to the basement for the fireplace. Shortly, I’ll tread the mill. And at 2:30, I need to leave to fetch the toddler.

Yes, I know, you envy my exciting life…

If I’m not doing anything illegal, immoral or fattening in anybody’s dreams, I don’t want to be there. (Not that anybody is likely to dream about me.)

I had a dream last night about large (from my viewpoint) intelligent caterpillars-like creatures with scorpion-like stingers in their tails. One of them (possibly me) was on the run from the caterpillar cops and another, girl, caterpillar was helping him. I woke up before I found out how it all turned out.
And that was one of my more coherent dreams.

It snowed off and on (mostly on) all day yesterday, but tiny little flakes. Today is bright and sunny, but cold, so there’s snow everywhere, but only about 3".

The birds have adapted to their new diet. We have 2 big (16"?) finch feeders and 1 little finch feeder that we filled with black sunflower seeds yesterday afternoon and they’re both about empty this morning. We also have a regular house-shaped feeder that’s about 1/3 full now and 2 suet feeders that are almost empty.

The bad thing about having lots of birds around is that they die, of old age or the cold, or ??? and I find their bodies in the yard. :pensive: I bury them, but not in the same hole as the dog poop. Unmarked graves. The neighbors’ cat tried to dig one up the other day. Rotten cat.

I’m starting to ramble. BYE!
