(Old) Getting up steam in the MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 13c/55f with a predicted high of 17c/62f and cloudy. Weather app says “Serge King once said “Revelations are found in fucking clouds.” How about the revelation that clouds fucking suck?”

Today is the birthday of George Stephenson in 1781, known as the Father of Railways. He is the person I hold totally responsible for all of my travel trauma

Normal Monday activities for me today, got to drop 'im indoors at the station for his own day of train trauma, then home to do some work, off to do the grocery shopping at lunchtime, more work afterwards and then the delights of the dental hygienist later this afternoon.

What does your day hold, and have you got enough steam for it?

W00T! FIRST!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Earlier spot was sitting on my computer desk, and when I got up I took the wireless mouse with me. “I’m calling you Leftovers, because you’ve been foiled!”

Chaos! And yeah, I have steam of it.

And of course 2025 is the 200th anniversary of George Stephenson’s Stockton and Darlington Railway, which was the first public steam-operated railway in the world. A number of celebrations are occurring in the museums of Darlington and Shildon, centred around Stephenson’s 1825 steam loco the Locomotion.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with thunder in the distance and with a predicted high of 86 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse. A good day to be inside and dry. I suppose one does not need to get up steam for a day of high RDOS inactivities as that is the plan of the day. Sup will be pot roast in the slow cooker along with baby carrots and little N.O.T. In addition there will be baby lima beans, squishes, and rolls.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Morning, Mumpers! We had raining and sky-booming last night, so it will be plenty steamy today. In 1962, Little Eva had a big hit with the Goffin-King song “The Loco-motion.” I was 13 then.

Sorta semi-related here, the MD Dept of Transportation is holding meetings over the next week or so about rapid transit in the southern counties - all 3 of us. I skimmed the thread attached to the announcement and there was some talk of rail, but apparently there’s been talk for decades. I certainly don’t expect to see any such thing in my lifetime. Plus if local trains suddenly appeared, so what? I can’t imagine any place they’d go that’s walkable and I doubt there will be provisions to take cars along. But time well tell and all that. Right now, the only spur in this area connects directly with the powerplant on the Potomac - for coal deliveries. I suppose they still get coal - I used to pass there on my commute from 2004-2011 - I expect things may have changed.

Anyway, good morning! We got some t-boomers and a little rain overnight. Sun promised later today, then more rain tomorrow. I need to run to WalMart today for a couple of things, then I’ll attempt to finish sewing this afternoon. That will give me 2 days to clean the mess and prepare the basement for the grands on Thursday. Not much going on beyond that.

I was up till almost 2 last night - ugh - then awake around 6:30. These short nights aren’t good. I may sleep with Mel tonight. For now, tho, caffeination continues.

Happy Moanday!

Good morning all. A comfy 67F now heading to about 82F with a 50-50 chance of rain this afternoon. Shopping and sammich and gym time are on the schedule, along with dropping some stuff at the dry cleaners, so hopefully all of that will be done before the rains come. Should have enough steam for it, after lazing away most of Sunday.

No passenger rail within 100 miles of me, even the nearest bus service is 10 miles away, so not as fortunate as boo fae in my travel options. Will get a chance in about 10-12 days to experience English trains, will travel from London to Southampton and then after my cruise, Southampton to Portsmouth round trip–already have my tickets purchased. Will also use the London Underground and National Express buses to get around. Hopefully they will all work well.

FCM, yeah, what we had for urban transportation got eaten up (except for the big cities) in the 1950’s rush to suburbia and it’ll take a big shock to ever get it back. IMHO.
And got about 6 hours sleep due to several bathroom trips, so know how you feel.

And that’s it for the first report of the week. Have a good one all.

My day is the same as yesterday every other day. Up at the crack of dawn, drive to the barn to give Ariel her meds, go home, nap, get up, drive to the barn to give Ariel her meds, home, sleep.

Only 6 more days of this.

Today is Pentecost Monday, so a holiday. It’s currently 20.5°/69°F and wonderfully sunny.

Took a walk to town, got Starbucks and took the train home. On time. As usual.

Had a discussion about replacing our steam oven with a microwave, since we don’t use the steam oven much, so decided that the solution is to use the steam oven more often. Made chicken piccata on the stove, and used the steam oven for the wild rice and green beans.

Going to go hack the roses and peonies - they are mostly done with blooming and are dropping petals everywhere. The roses will bloom again, so hacking them back will make sure they don’t take over.

Sure is a nice day to hold down a chaise lounge.

Morning folks - About 0745 as I start to drivel an’ caffinate’. Suns’ been up a bit over an hour; jest keeps gettin’ earlier and earlier. At least for another ~3 weeks. Sure seems like Equinox is coming early this year. Go figure.

NWS’s report from almost an hour ago sez 82/28 on the way to 90/32. Skies are slightly hazy with Saharan dust and although the forecast suggests a chance of showers hear and there, I’m not seein’ it.

Today will be day 3 of our full day’s wake-up to sleep-time together. Which will set a record; two was the best we’d managed heretofore. Going great.

Shakira on Fri night was great. Neither her hips, nor those of the 45,000 female Latina audience members dressed to attract lied even a little bit. We got into the concession & seating area about two hours before the live show actually started. Good food, drink, & company. The endless parade of spandex, shiny vinyl, tall shoes, and sparkly stuff was … distracting. The audience was no kidding 55,000 people. Of whom not even 10K were men. And about 10K were white; the rest Latina, black, or both. So Miami. We sat next to two 20-somethings from Medillín Colombia. They had flown up just for the concert. Knew all the words to all the songs (as did much of the audience) and sang and danced most of the night right there in front of their seat.

Got home at 1am Sat; glad I’d hired a driver.

Sat and Sun were great fun too. Lotta live music and live action at home. Except for the slight embarrassment last night (Sun) when we’re enjoying a drink & app at a nice bar & two 30-something semi-hip dudes walk in. GF & one dude eye each other up & down then the two dudes go sit at the other end of the bar. I’m watching this mystified. Turns out GF had had a brief fling with the cuter of the pair about 6 months ago. FTR GF is 69yo. GF was mortified and also terrified I’d be all sorts of angry / jealous when she later explained what had been going on. (Narrator: “He wasn’t.”) Such fun.

As to today’s steam: Right now GF is still snoozing, building up her steam. Real quick here I need to wake her up so we can cuddle, coffee, shower, and go. I need to stop by the dental lab making my crowns so they can color-check my upper teeth and make my new lowers to match. That’s at 11am and should be quick. But it’s 30 minutes downbeach from here to there. That’ll put us near where she grew up, so she’ll take over from there and we’ll get some brunch and some beach walking, if not swimming in her old stomping grounds. I’m familiar enough with the area, but I bet I’ll learn some new tricks along the way.

The rest is TBD but I’m sure we’ll be worn out by the end of it.

Well, I hear the sound of a girl brushing her teeth, so it’s time for me to put this on the wire and get that cuddle, coffee, and shevelment going.

Cheers! Happy Moanday to all!

Solstice.:sun_behind_small_cloud:

D’oh! Thank you. Figures a girl named Coppertone would keep that straight for me.

Employees were texted to come in for training meeting today either 12-2 or 4-6.
For some reason, I picked 4. Its going to rain and storm and will be done by 1.
Good timing!
It is coming too fast. I wait all year for summer and it feels like it will be over before I blink.

Good morning!

It’s 61°F and sunny outside. Once again, we can expect abundant sunshine and a high temperature of 90°F. Yesterday, we reached 92°F, and by the afternoon, things were uncomfortable outside the range of the overhead fan. I do not have AC.

I need to get my license plate tabs; they expired last month. I keep forgetting, and am usually much better about that kind of thing. On the other hand, I’m not out on the road every day, so I’m not thinking about getting pulled over all the time.

I could obtain the tabs today, or not. It depends on how the day goes.I also need a pedicure, so maybe I could do both and get them out of the way.

Yesterday, we filled up the kiddie pools for the pups. Maisie likes to paw at the water and watch the patterns of light that appear in it. Buster gets into the pool initially, and then he’s done, sitting on the slope behind, watching Maisie. In a bid to get him into the pool, we put his favorite big, blue ball in there. He was not a fan of this, and after retrieving it several times, he kept it in his mouth the last time. We won’t do that to him again.

I hope your training meeting is good, Coppertone.

I hope you all have a good day. It’s another day on the top side of the grass, so that’s in our favor.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP.

I need to go get some more boxes today before doing a little packing. Other than that, not a whole lot shakin’.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Guess I inadvertently decided to celebrate an anniversary I didn’t know existed by taking the train in to work today. I can walk to a train station; company pays for Uber from destination station to work. Costs less than gas.

Ya know, I think I’ve heard of that. Everybody’s doin’ it.
(Come on, Baby, do The Locomotion!)

I’m a good Catholic boy, and I’ve never heard of that as a holiday.

Move to a Catholic canton (Luzern) and you’ll get all sorts of Catholic holidays.

Cut back the rose and peonies. The German name for peonies translates as Pentecost Roses, and they are normally in bloom for Pentecost. Except Pentecost is really late this year and spring was mild.

Ended up with rose petals stuck in my hair. Sounds romantic, but not really when the rose petals are all dried out. Now I should go sort out the toiletries for our overnight trip. And find the tickets for the concert. Max capacity is 5000 people, so a bit smaller than the venue for Shakira.

The trip to WalMart was pretty much a waste of time - three of the 4 items I went for were not available. Dammit. But the route there took me past the UPS drop off, so Cologard is on its way. And I came back via Leonardtown to get FCD some sugar-free root beer at Food Lion.

Just finishing lunch before heading downstairs to the sewing machine. I expect cussing to ensue at some point. But assuming I don’t screw up again (as I did yesterday) I should get done with the cushions today. Tomorrow for sure.

Supper will be something with fake crab. Not sure what yet, but I’ll figure something out.

The ususal running around putting out (metaphorical) fires today. I did my Aldi run after work. I had my usual bowl of dry, flavorless bits and toast, so there’s some chew chew right there.

The Amtrak station is about 10 miles away from me, and the nearest bus stop is a quarter mile away.

Crap.

watched way too much tv this weekend. streaming is soooo dangerous.
