Sleep well when you can; you’ve certainly earned it today.
Howdy Y’all! We brunched and candle duty got done. We went to the Pig cause fresh collard greens were on sale. We got two big bunches which I cleaned and tore. They are in a big baggie in the beerator. They will be cooked tomorrow and et Sattidy. Nappage and day drinkin’ were accomplished as well.
{{{Wordy}}} welcome back!
BBBoo happy doperversary!
@BippityBoppityBoo
Happy Dopaversary!
Don’t forget: I have your sandals
Hey everyone! I’ve been offline for a while because I get too upset at what I happening on all of my streams. Here is safe, but it is just too easy to open another browser window and take a little look.
So, I have a timer set now. Once it goes off, no more internet for me.
In other news, I am ready for No King day. I’ve cooked up a hundred pounds of chicken taco meat and another ten pounds of hamburger. We took all of that to a friend’s place in Charleston because it’s too much for me to be lifting after surgery. We’ve got tables and sterno warmers and Taco Don ticked me off so much that I stopped at Walgreens and bought two boxes of face masks to hand out. Water, tortillas, grated cheese (store bought /shudders) have been bought by other folks so hopefully nobody will be making a panicked grocery store run at 1130.
Tomorrow I get my second eye done. I am looking forward to this so much, I have colors and light but I can’t read yet and I had no idea how limiting that was.
I can read large print and street signs, but I can’t read menus or labels. Next week I’ll be able to get some readers to fix that problem, but my world has already been changed for the better already.
Such a good thing! And good luck on your procedure tomorrow.
< generic agreement post >
HAPPY DOPERVERSARY BBBOOO!!!
Tequila makes her clothes fall off?
Good luck!
Thanks for the well wishes, I know that it will go just fine and I’ll be drinking coffee half an hour after the IV goes in.
I am afraid that I have ruined chicken tacos for us for a while. You can only smell/eat/cook/wear the same dish for a couple of days before you hate it forever.
I’m also kinda upset at the clouds. /Shakes fist in the air
If Taco Don cancels the parade because he doesn’t want to get wet, he’s going to demand a make up one and then I’ll be cooking chicken taco meat for another week again. Fuck that fucking fucker, I hope he trips and pulls his cath out of his mushroom.
Evening all. Got my gym time in and had about an hour or so to rest, then left for the soccer fields an hour ahead of time…and barely made it, traffic was stacked up more than I ever remember it being, and this at 4pm on a Thursday. Still got there and ended up refereeing (both center and sideline) over two hours straight in 80F weather, so made it home a bit tired. Am decompressing for a bit but will be turning in early since I have 4 more games tomorrow. After this, I am definitely earning my vacation!
And into scrolling mode I go…
Wordy!!. Nice to see you about the premises again. Hope this isn’t a one-off visit and you’ll be back soon.
Taters, Happy Planting!
Cookie, interesting place. And that Kestel’s eyes…
FCM, they can burn the calories off as fast as they put them into themselves, while we of a certain age tend to smoulder our calories rather than burn them. And sounds like Tobais should be nicknamed Evel Knievel–but I concur with Pilot, might want to look into swimming lessons for him.
flyboy, a nice gift.
Oopsie, happy to hear you have been CAC’ed. Think the rescheduling is probably for the best. And glad the toenail work is improving. And the Balrog looks fierce!
red, hope the separation goes as planned.
JtC, have a righteous (and safe) No Kings Day. And best wishes that this eye work is as successful as the first.
And it’s late, I’m tired and have a full day tomorrow, so off to bed I go. Take care all.
Dinner was nice. I had 8 oz. bacon-wrapped filet mignon (rare) with a baked potato, broccoli and cauliflower, and a side of creamed spinach. The Spousal Unit had an 8 oz. Filet Mignon Oscar, garlic mashed potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower, and a side of creamed spinach. We started with a Manhattan (me) and a Grey Goose martini (her), then we had a glass each of Merlot, and finished with the same cocktails we started with. She brought half of her spinach and some of her meat home, and I brought home almost half of my spinach and her broccoli. She left a $50 tip, so I think the beill was about $200. This is why we only go twice a year. Anyway, it was a very satisfying birthday dinner. (And yes, I did wear the cologne.
)
.
Thanks every one for the Doperversary wishes. You all are definitely the best thing I’ve done for myself in the past decade and you’ll have to take up a collection to have me hauled away.
hippy, don’t explain about the sandals….let ‘em wonder.
The correct answer is, “Absolutely none, get those abominations away from my food.”
Do I need to roll up a newspaper?
That’s … impressive.
Last Friday was so messed up we were still talking about it today.
There was a (lovely!) full moon, and tomorrow is Friday the 13th.
So tomorrow, yeah, I haz some concerns.
We were like, bring rabbit feet, four-leaf-clover, maybe a fucking suit of armor if you got a spare set lying around.
Maybe you’re tasty?
Well, yeah!
Welcome back, lovely.
Wise words.
Same, darling.
Ditto.
Aw, naw, hun. Tell us how you really feel.
I have a few stories like that.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/63f with a predicted high of 23c/73f and cloudy. Weather app says “Yesterday’s weather fucking sucked. Today’s weather will be fucking worse than that.” Well, we do have a thunderstorm warning but that usually means it will pass us by completely.
Happy Doperversary, BBBoo!
She was a single human cat, unfortunately her human has dementia and needed to go into a nursing home. The family weren’t able to take Muffin so she came to Little Paws, and we agreed to foster her until she can be rehomed. She would do well in a single-person house where she gets all the attention, we’re just working on getting her to trust us at the moment. Baby steps, but she is far less growly than she was when she first came here.
Welcome back, we missed you!
I have seen some of the pics you’ve posted on farcebook, you have a beautiful garden and it’s clear to see how much love it gets, and how much joy it gives you.
I’m glad you got there and enjoyed your visit. Raptors are quite magnificent birds.
I hope the second procedure goes as well as the first and you are soon back to enjoying the world in all its colourful glory.
Sounds like it was a very good one, and a great way to celebrate getting older!
Yesterday’s commute home was actually quite good, mainly because of train delays which meant I caught a late-running service from campus and then an earlier train than usual from Big City Station, so I was home about half an hour earlier than normal. Didn’t do much apart from tend to the needs of cats, and fetch 'im indoors from the station.
Much excitement this morning as my new mattress is being delivered. I had been given a delivery slot of 7.12am-9.12am, and today I got a tracking link. I’ve also just had a text with the driver’s name and a message that he should be calling me 30 minutes before he arrives here. The tracker says I am drop 5 out of 11, and he is on his way to drop 4 now. All I need to do is wake up 'im indoors and get the bedding off the current mattress so they can swap it for the new one, and take the old one away from recycling.
Apart from that, it’s another irk day in paradise…
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Just don’t hit me too hard, or it’ll leave an im-print.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 88 with clouds and rain. There was no rain yestiddy but it was cloudy and hoooooomid! This will be a day of high RDOS inactivities. The biggest efforts will be the cookage of collard greens to be et tomorrow and the makeage of sup which will be chili/cheese/onion/slaw dawgs. Fart fest to follow.
JtC good on you for the tacos. Hope the other eye surgery goes as well as the last one. Hubs and you will appreciate this. I mowed Wednesday mornin’ and set off a frenzy of mowage in da ‘hood. Seriously, I heard mowers Wednesday afternoon and all day yestiddy. I will endeavor to use my powers for good.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Firday Y’all!
Good morning all. I’m awake but don’t want to be. The cat is happy because now she can lick me nonstop since I’m no longer futilely trying to sleep behind a closed door. She’s draped across my typing arm and purr-throbbing to beat the band.
Thanks for the doperversary wishes-I am ever so glad to be here. Still not going to explain the sandals though.
Amen! The irony for me is that many, many years ago when we created the logo for our catering business it included mushrooms in it!
JtC, hope that all goes well!
And… yesterday’s interview had to be rescheduled at the very last minute. I was sitting there waiting for it and about 9 minutes before I got an email apologizing and asking me to pick a new day and time which will be next Wednesday. I did happen to get another interview for today. It’s not really something that I expect they’ll hire me for, but what the heck…
Last night MusicMan and I went up to Costco. We renewed our membership and I made an appointment with the hearing aid department for next week. We also had dinner at Cracker Barrel and then I worked on my top secret present for my mom.
She’s had this same plastic orange cup from Hershey, Pa that she’s been using for the last 20 or so years. She uses it almost daily. All of the writing had worn off awhile ago. Finally it developed a crack in it and had to be thrown away. She happened to find a listing on eBay for 10 of them but it was $30 including shipping. She didn’t want to spend that much and nicely threatened me not to buy them for her. So, of course, I did!
When the package got here, I stealthily opened it and stuck them in the dishwasher. After they were washed I snuck them out to my car. Then while we were out last night I bought gift wrapping materials and many different kinds of Reese’s candy and made them into a gift basket.
When we got home we walked in carrying them and said, “look what we found at Costco today!” She believed me for about 30 seconds and then I admitted the whole scheme and its excecution. And, now, she and her cups are living happily ever after!
That’s a cute story. Go Mom and your orange cups!!
Mornin’ all - a bit after 7am as I start driveling. Been up since 0545 caffinatin’ and balconatin’ but was just driven indoors by the post-sunrise blast in the face. Back before dawn Venus was shining brightly. Funny how something can look so pretty from a distance and in fact be a total hellhole.
Gonna be another summerish day here: few puffies, lush but not uncomfortably humid, and presently 83/28 on the way to 90/32. Was about 80/26 when I got out of bed. So nice.
Took myself out for jazz and dinner last night, then failed at self-discipline and stopped off for a stogie. At jazz met an interesting Bahamian dude who works as a tourist concierge on Harbour Island Bahamas. Which gave me an idea for where to go for a few days. Wow, are almost all the hotels full! Which surprises me a bit, but my gut feel for where we are in the calendar usually lags reality by a month or two. I guess school is out so summer vacation season has begun. Crap.
Other than that, I predict high RDOS today. Based on a different Dope thread I have been threatening for 2 days now to go to TJ’s across the street to see if they stock crumpets. By gum, today’s the day I’ll get that fearsome task completed.
Cheers and good luck to all!
I always order double - that’s usually a respectable amount. You need to have some in every bite without having them fall off. YUM!
Must I rethink letting you be my friend???
So the big baby is afraid of getting wet? That’s all I’ll say about that.
Good sleep last night, but then I was exhausted. Woke at 6 feeling close to human. Daughter sent me a pic of Tobias - he crashed before 7 and apparently he was too tired to stay on his mattress (it’s on the floor) - that is he was using it as a pillow while he and his blanket were on the floor!
SIL has an imaging appointment at 10:30 and he’ll be dropping the kids here before 10. I should be well into laundry by then - maybe they’ll sit quietly and watch TV… < she said, barely suppressing her laughter… > I’m disinclined to let them play outside as I found a tick on Roxy’s short when they came in yesterday. Hate hate HATE this little evil bastards!!!
I got an email from Holland America - the cruise is departing an hour earlier than originally scheduled and some people will have to reschedule their flights. Luckily, we’re arriving the day before, so we’re good. But it got me to thinking about booking flights for Casey rather than FCD and daughter picking her up and dropping her off. Must discuss with them. Baggage will be the biggie depending on extra charges.
FCD finally got the quote for having the fuel tanks built and it’s several thousand lower than I’d expected, plus they’ll be done by the time we return - FINALLY!! Which means August will be full of boat work - at least for the guys at the marina who have to install the tanks. It also means FCD will drive me crazy during the cruise, wishing he was home to do stuff. So I have that to look forward to.
But for today, it’s laundry and grandspawn. Happy Firday!!
Morning all. Up about 5:30am after a good sleep, so hopefully get through the day ok, Will have some breakfast in a bit and leave at 7:30 for the soccer fields, my first game is at 9:00am. Might be 12 hours or so before I get home again, going to be a long day and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon, so we’ll see if I can get all my games in.
boo fae, my best wishes to Muffin and more kudos for you doing the hard work. Hope the new mattress is a bed you want to lie on.
Sticky Buns, you’re going to get real good at this interviewing stuff. And nice thing you did for Mom.
Pilot, Happy Trader Joe’s Day!
FCM, good news on the fuel tanks.
And time for some pancakes and bacon, then off to soccer…have a good day all.
i hope all goes well today, jtc.
i have my consult today, so i should have eye news after i get home. i will eat out before heading home. trying to decide between bacon cheeseburger or filet mignon. decisions, decisions…
