Dammit! I must find a way to make it!
DocCathode, once again, tell us where you live and we can figure out who can pick you up.
Oh, I am in Philadelphia PA.
If no other Dopers are coming around Philly, any chance you could hop a train to Harrisburg? Many years ago there was fairly regular train service between Philly and Harrisburg (and I think points west) - several times a day even on weekends. There still seems to be - the Keystone train (per Amtrak’s web page) runs a few times a day and there are times that might work for you. Someone would need to give you a ride from Harrisburg - any Harrisburgites coming to the picnic? (Unless the Keystone goes further west; it may).
Or bus? I just tried searching for Philadelphia to Gettysburg on that date and got something about “not available online”, tried to Harrisburg and there’s a morning bus, but afternoon bus may be problematic (it seems to imply you’d have to leave Harrisburg to return to Philly - about an hour after you got in!).
Might I suggest you change my offering to “cheese ball” rather than just “balls”? I’d be a bit afraid, if someone were actually bringing “balls” to eat
Oh - and it’s Mama Zappa + 1 (Moon Unit is coming, though I haven’t told her yet!)
I’ll get it changed on the next go-round.
Robin
Hmm… I have a car, and I could come home next weekend as well as this one, though I’d miss two straight sessions of D&D… And it’s nowhere near as far away as I thought (only 2.5 hours). Put me down as a definite ‘maybe’.
In the case that I can go, I can manage napkins and such. And if anyone brings sushi, I will love you forever.
How could I forget my traditional kosher dogs???
I will bring two packages of quarter-pound frankfurters, certified kosher by Triangle-K. (8 dogs should be more than enough.)
And I also picked up a minimal-assembly-required brownie kit. So when I show up, the first thing that happens is chocolate.
If I can make it, I’ve got a big jar of sauerkraut to go with the hotdogs.
What’s more important, hm? D&D with a bunch of geeks or… a picnic with a bunch of geeks. Either way, you’d be spending your weekend with a bunch of geeks. But we’re a better class of geeks.
Robin
I’m sure MsRobyn will be glad to hear that. She just luuuuurves the stuff.
This should not even be an issue.
Captain Carrot is in college.
The food will be free for the relative pittance of some ruddy (almost typed bloody) napkins.
The “There will be women at this event, and I don’t mean the guy who plays a female character” element is not even essential information.
Free food. Who cares if there’s sushi? (Why anyone would bring sushi to a potluck picnic in September is well beyond me.)
I can’t get that worked up about this particular jar of sauerkraut. It can keep the kimche[sup]3[/sup] company.
Robin
No kidding. The kimche and sauerkraut can sit on the far side of the pavilion, away from the two of us. Ick.
Okay, we’ve got Captain Carrot (maybe) bringing napkins, but we still need plates and cups and plastic flatware.
Robyn, did you and Airman pay the reservation fee this year or was it danceswithcats?
Boys! Play nice.
Hey, can I reserve a seat at the No-Kimche-No-Sauerkraut table? Pretty please?
He’s the one playing with the fishes.
“whenever” being what? noonish? 10 AMish? I’d hate to show up at noon and find that everyone had been there for 2 hours, or that nobody else was going to arrive for 2 hours .
Oh, and also: need more detail on the directions, please? I know I’ll be heading up US 15 and then turning left somewhere off the highway…
I wanted to check: are there younger kids expected to be there (5 or under)? Robin, your son is youngish, right?
I’m thinking of persuading my sister-in-law (and her not-quite-3YO) to come down from Harrisburg, rather than me driving up there in the afternoon - she might have fun. If I do, you guys gots to be nice to her, ya hear!
I’ll offer Moon Unit to help with distracting the little 'uns, as she loves young kids.
Is there a directions page yet?
What is the name of the park?
I am trying to print up my maps. How close will we be to the Battlefield Park?
