Ghandi's Gas Station and The Evil that is Hillary Clinton

**Considering what conservatives such as Michael Savage, Trent Lott, Jesse Helms, Pat Buchanan, Strom Thurmond, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly have said and not only gotten away with no repercussions but have actually been given plaudits, standing ovations and vast sums of money for their “remarks,” it’s safe to say that you are completely and utterly full of shit and will continue to be until your dying day.

Oh, and your location only proves how full of shit you truly are.**

Let’s get right to it then;

Those dolts you mention, surely they’ve made statements that rival Hillarys’ and worse, and there have definately been repercussions, haven’t there? Lott got the hook (or stepped down, whatever) for his synaptic misfire, Limbaugh was bounced from ESPN for the McNabb flap, and O’Reilly’s just a twit, but personally, I expect that kind of jibberish from the old boy network these chuckleheads are a part of, it’s no excuse, granted, but it’s expected.

Thankfully, Thurmond is dead, maybe Jesse is on his heels, who knows (i’ll cross my fingers)?

I don’t think it’s safe to say that at all, but you’re welcome to your opinion, and for that matter, I’m not sure what in the blue fuck me being from Chicago has to do with me being full of shit, but again, one mans opinion and all that. Oh, and welcome to the boards.

** I don’t know that she wouldn’t have a chance aginst Shrub but since all she’s ever said on the matter is that she has no interest in running I think it’s a strawman to deride her for “wanting” to be POTUS when she has never publicly expressed any such desire.**

Well, i’m pretty sure that she wouldn’t stand a chance, the Dems are putting on a poor showing this go round, I’m pretty sure W is gonna be right on back there for another 4. Personally, I like him on some things, and dislike him on others, but you’ve gotta admit, this issue hijack the Bush camp is doing is an excellent strategy.

This is a non-story. I can see Dave Fucking Barry making that joke.

Good perspective on it, made me think, but end of it all, it’s Dave Barrys’ job to be funny and irreverent, it ain’t Hillarys’. She represents the people of the state of New York, all of them.
Including those people who revere the nonviolent teachings of Gandhi (thanks for the correction gouda…

So politicians should be uncompromisingly stoic, never letting a moment of humanity shine through for fear of someone misinterpreting their remarks? Please. Politicians love a nice mediocre joke, and unfortunately people do sometimes take offense at innocent remarks. Things can be that way.

Are you trying to imply that Hillary doesn’t? I didn’t get that vibe from the speech, probably because immediately after the joke, Senator Clinton stated that Gandhi was “a great leader”.

I have the feeling she wasn’t trying to make a race joke.

I have this feeling because I looked at the joke and thought “Okay, she’s making a joke like ‘Who, Elizabeth Regina? Isn’t she that girl at the diner?’”

Then I thought and thought and thought how someone could take offense at this; it just sounded like a weak joke. Then it hit me – oh…

She’s probably just dreadfully embarrassed it was taken like that. I’m not defending the comment – if she’s going to tell jokes, they oughtn’t be so weak – but I think it’s fair to cut her some slack this time 'round.

::Yawn::

Let me know when it gets interesting…

Saying that Gandhi ran a gas station is not by itself racist.

The assumption in the mind of the listener that it’s because he’s Indian that he ran a gas station, that’s racist.

So, to review: the conservatives attacking Hillary for being racist are the real racists here. Glad we could clear that up.

Are you really that stupid, or are you putting on an act for us?

I’m thinking we have a potential case of misogyny and possibly a martyr complex with this OP?

Dr. Pres (not really)

Oy, the irony!

So, were you this outraged when John McCain told that atrcious joke about the Clintons a few years back?

And I’ve yet to see any hard evidence that Hilary is ruthless or that she wants to be President. It’s all conjecture on the part of her enemies.

I hate Hillary with every fiber of my being, and am embarassed that she is my Senator.

This is still nothing more than a lame joke. Move on.

I really don’t see what she is apologizing for—Jesus, you can’t say anything without it being taken as a racist remark. The point of the joke was that Gandhi was so famous that introducing him as a gas-station owner is like JFK calling himself “the man who accompanied Jacqueline Kennedy to Paris.” Not brilliant comedy, but not racist to anyone but dyed-in-the-wool Hillary-haters.

She has nothing to apologize for. Well, except for her sometimes unfortunate tatse in hats.

First of all, there is absolutely no reason to put ‘senator’ in quotation marks, as the OP does; it suggests some undefined illegitimacy to her position where none exists.

As to the underlying remark – if a conservative were vilifed for such a remark, I’d defend him. Why should I attack Mrs. Clinton? While it’s safe to say that I’m not a great fan of her politics, I don’t think she’s done anything as a senator that even hints of moral turpitude. I think the hostility against her is appalling, mean-spirted, and without rational basis.

This isn’t even a lame joke. It’s simply lame.

What the fuck does his location have to do with anything?

Try lurking a bit more before you open that windy piehole.

There’s no such place as “Blusterville, IL.” I’m assuming he’s referring to the Windy City, however, we have this:

Noun. Bluster:[ul][li]Noisy confusion and turbulence[/li][li]A swaggering show of courage[/li][li]Vain and empty boasting[/ul][/li]Seems appropriate.

I don’t think Hillary has gotten off competently scot free either. But I do agree that a conservative would have provoked a somewhat harsher reaction. This because conservatives are more vulnerable to accusations of racism, due to their positions on affirmative action, immigration, welfare, law enforcement and other issues.

Also, had it been a more politically powerful minority and a more ethnically sensitive one, meaning Blacks or Hispanics or Jews, there would have been a bigger outcry.

Personally I don’t think this type of thing is a big deal, and I think everyone needs to loosen up a bit. But I do agree that the standards are not uniform.

She’s been a politician so long that she should realize that one cannot make a joke that even smells like it approaches a subject that even sounds like a word that is marginally related to another word that rhymes with another word that could be mistaken for one with a faint relation to race.

That’s why I think she may be enough out of touch culturally that she actually wasn’t aware of the Indian/convienience store stereotype. I think she just meant to pick a humble occupation and unintentionally stepped in some dogshit.

It was a dumb joke, insensitive and lame. By itself it’s hardly enough to hang her by her thumbs, and she has already apologized, which is more than windbags like O’Reilly and Limbaugh would do.

Just for the record, I voted for Bill twice and I don’t see myself voting for Hillary if she ever does run for president. This joke has nothing to do with my opinions.

I’m no fan of Mrs. Clinton, and even I think the OP is waaaaay off base.

Well it’s in the "top stories’ section of CNN now.

Is that enought attention for you?
