Ghosts say “Boo!” and we do too! (October mini-rants)

Yes, more mature and sophisticated programming.

:face_with_monocle:

Like grown men and women playing with Legos.

I didn’t say anything about “mature and sophisticated”. I’d rather watch Blazing Saddles for the umpteenth time than watch any form of sports.

Blazing Saddles is plenty mature! It’s almost 50 years old! :upside_down_face:

lol we have 2 of something like them we are thinking of putting them outside lol

also for those whose kids are having problems with sleeping it’s a good idea to make sure they don’t have sleeping problems as I do …

When I was a little kid I wouldn’t sleep at night more than 3 or 4 hours " oh he’s just a night owl" and thought it was cute … well when I was a teenager it became 4 or 5 hours every few days… to the point I was walking around the strip mall in my pajamas eating a donut and talking to people who weren’t there at the time
civil authorities weren’t amused and while at the er I was given a shot that put me out for almost 2 days …i had to have that shot more than once and it drove mom nuts after a while and all anyone ever said is "chronic insomnia " and you’ll fall asleep when ya need to … .

That sounds like pure horror.

Do you still need that shot?

no thank god but it does have one side effect … its why I found the straight dope on aol back in the day tho I was bored at 3 am and it used to be you could type in “random” as a keyword and it would take you anywhere, and then i remembered an article about a question that was asked a lot and here we are tho I took a few years off because of things …

Speaking of insomnia, here I am after no sleep. I finally decided to get up and go to the fucking DMV. It doesn’t open until 8:30 (it’s 7:15 now) but I’m going to get there before 8:00 and hope I beat the crowd. Reports are there have been 2-3 hour waits. And it’s 37 degrees. I’m not a happy camper this morning. I wonder if I should ask them to give me back the $5 I paid to have the license plate mailed to me. Wish me luck.

Years ago a friend of mine stopped sleeping. He had no health insurance. I paid for a doctor visit, and the doctor did a three day involuntary commitment where he was sedated and slept.

After release he seemed normal again for a few weeks, then he stopped sleeping again. I went over to visit, but he thought I was trying to seduce his wife (who I never even liked). A week later he hung himself.

Well, sleeping problems are serious. My daughter is still having trouble but she does seem to sleep… just at times that don’t work for living in our society as it is. I think she’d like for school to start at 10 am and go until like 5 or so, then be allowed to stay up until 10 pm. But school starts much earlier.

As for my minirant - I got my flu and covid shots yesterday and I feel like hot garbage. But I have to go into work because I have exactly 12 hours of PTO left for the year and I can’t work from home to avoid using PTO. Because on Friday, I dropped my laptop in the driveway and broke the screen. UGH!

I’m sorry! I had my flu and covid shots last Saturday, didn’t really feel well again until Tuesday morning. Hopefully you can get past it faster.

I really just want a nap. Can’t do that for a while.

It could have been worse. When I got there at 8:00, there were around 30 people in line. But it only took an hour and a half. Of course, one hour was standing in the cold. It was an easy process. I just had to sign an affidavit that I was replacing a lost plate. Now I’m good until Tennessee decides to do this again.

I’m exhausted. I haven’t stood on my feet for that long in ages. But I’m going to try to stay up all day so I’ll get good sleep tonight. Insomnia is a bitch.

I got my second Covid booster last Saturday. I didn’t feel back to “normal” until Tuesday. At least my arm stopped hurting by the following day, but ugh, the fatigue was definitely there.

So almost completely identical to @Dung_Beetle I guess! (Except the place I got my shot didn’t have flu shots.)

My sympathy goes to anyone who had a bad reaction to their latest jab. I’d post more but @digs said my issues were too minor for the mini-rant thread so I will just offer sympathy and nothing else.

I got something similar to this a while back. Mine has a fabric seat and a lower weight limit, but it’s come in very useful from time to time.

There was someone in line with something similar. Also a couple people with lawn chairs. I had intended to take one of mine but I forgot it. It wouldn’t hurt to have something a little more portable than that, though, that I could leave in the trunk. Thanks for the tip.

I bought this last year. It is one of the best purchases I’ve made in a while.

It is a very comfortable chair that is a recliner. It has a padded headrest, the footrest is removable (so you can use it with or without it), you can also adjust the height of the back. (So, you can lounge in it, or sit upright as if it was a regular chair.) There is a built-in cupholder and an attached bag that you can put small things into (a phone, book, sunglasses, whatever). You can’t see from the photos (though there is a video that shows it) but it folds up into a very small, skinny item that goes into a bag and I sling it over my back and carry it around comfortably. I can usually get it all packed up in a few minutes, and it unpacks even faster.

The thing is luxurious to me. My youngest daughter is a dancer (she has been taking dance lessons at a prestigious school since she was 3 years old, 2 of her classmates were finalists on the last season of World of Dance for crying out loud) and they have two performances (“showcases”) each year. One in the summer, and one around Christmas. Last year because of Covid restrictions they had the Summer Showcase in an outdoor park where people could be distant from each other (they marked out spots on a huge lawn and you reserved your square for your group). I was outside for hours on the grass for these dance performances. I would not have been able to do it without that chair.

I can’t recommend it enough, it or something similar. I didn’t even think you could have a freaking recliner with a cupholder carried around in a small thing you can sling over your back. It is a bit heavy to take hiking, but it is great for a picnic, or camping, or any other outdoor event where you might want to provide your own seating.

pfft… Things! Aren’t they the worst? But seriously, welcome back!

.

W H A T ?

Who does this digs guy think he is?

I’m flabbergasted. And SURE I didn’t say anything like that seriously, so pleeeeease accept my mea culpa and share some mini-ness in the mini-rants!

Seriously, I (and everyone else here) would love to hear what else you have to say on the subject.

Don’t they carry graphite with the little kiosk they have setup for making keys?
