Last month we had no water. The hydrant in the barn broke below ground level and water ran under ground until the pump shut off.
We called a plumber who came out and confirmed the hydrant needed replaced. He said there was no use rushing to replace it because our well was burned out.
Called the well people who sent out a two man emergency crew to replace the pump. But the pump was fine and the well people felt bad for us because a pump replacement call was $$$ (two men, long drive).
I have a small sailboat on a local lake. Went to pull it out for the season and failed completely. If I could be in 3 places at once I would have done it without issue. Instead I have to depend on people who don’t know how to do it and can’t take explicit direction because they think they know better. The don’t. So I got to take my trailer back home to repair 2 supports that broke because even though I said they have to be lined up right or they’ll break, the “help” didn’t actually line them up. I was on top of the boat and couldn’t see.
I’ll try again next weekend. At which point it will likely be cold and rainy as well as costing me another $100 to rent a truck to tow it.
I live next to a church. They ring the bell for each hour. This does not bother me - my previous home was next to a mosque and I loved the sound of the muezzin, which is a part of my country and especially my former city’s culture. The church I live next to is similarly a big part of my current town’s culture.
What bugs me is that the church bell is NEVER on time. Like 6 minutes early or 4 minutes late. Every time.
But this morning the bell rang 11 o’clock at 07:31. My OCD cannot deal with that.
Isn’t the church bell timing really an announcement for when the priest begins a service at approximately that time? I really don’t recall, as I left the Episcopal church early in adulthood (mine, not theirs).
It is the Dutch Reformed Church (NGK) and this has been going on at random for months. I very much doubt that the bell is for services; though you are right, that reminds me of my Catholic upbringing
They do ring the bell (no doubt manually) on time every Sunday to call the people in. But at other times… spectacularly not once. I really want to get up and see the machinery in the clock tower, and I am fairly new in town so I don’t want to rock the boat by complaining - after all, I chose to live 50m away from the church.
But I am a software developer, and precision is quite important to us.
I don’t follow professional sports. The Phillies have made it to the world series. Now, it seems like half of all local news programs are about the Phillies.
Philly has a new medical examiner. The last one left after a big scandal involving mishandling of human remains. I had to sit through at least 4 Phillies stories to get to the story about the medical examiner.
Ha! The new shoes came. They are purple, and they fit. My size is 6-61/2 wide as I can find. My feet used to be size 5 and wide as I could find. My last pregnancy on my feet at a full time job made them bigger and wider.
I took a shower this morning and 12 hours later realized the water was still in my bathtub. Plunger didn’t work and I can’t try baking soda & vinegar because of the water still in the tub. So I had to open a ticket with my landlord’s property management company. Now I’m certain I’ll get a response tomorrow, but an actual visit from a plumber? There’s a job fair on Wednesday that I really like to shower before attending.
