My guess is that your computer grabbed an update that is incompatible with the emulator. You might see if the emulator has a new version available too.
I downloaded a new version of Retroarch. It runs great. But all my saves are gone- and I was about 80 % done with the game.
Ouch! In my experience, usually the saves are kept as a separate file with a similar name but different extension from the original ROM, and you might be able to find some way to open it up again.
According to this page, the saved games and save states are in two different directories.
Emulated in-game saves are stored in the
saves
directory, whereas manual “snapshots” instates
Hopefully those folders weren’t overwritten as part of the installation, you can check there and see if they are empty. If they are and you have no backup, you might be stuck.
I hate starting over again if I’ve devoted a lot of time to a game. It’s very demoralizing.
I tracked down the save folder for my old RetroArch. I copied and pasted the file to the save folder of the version I just downloaded. Success! Atamasama I am in your debt!
You are an awesome person and no debt is incurred in this.
I suspect that they got a lot of complaints about pizzas that particular evening, someone has been sacked, and they’re trying to rebuild good will.
At this point I’m just amusing myself by watching the infinitely slow progress of that stupid T-shirt I ordered. I was under the impression that DHL was supposed to hand it off to Canada Post at the border, which leads one to question why the hell anyone would pay them courier fees if they were just going to hand it off to the post office.
But it’s worse than that. They handed it over to USPS. It’s now been languishing at the USPS distribution center in Chicago for three days. As much as I hate Canada Post, USPS is even worse. I had a book shipped via USPS from somewhere in the central US, and it took several weeks to get to Canada, after which Canada Post delivered it in two days.
I suspect what’s happening (although nothing is indicated on the tracking info) is what logistics types call “line haul”. Meaning that it’s going to sit in the Chicago USPS terminal until an entire tractor trailer load is full, and then the whole thing is going to be trucked to the border, and separated out for individual distribution by Canada Post. Good thing I’m not in a hurry.
YAY!! Wide legged jeans are back for women, old hippies like me want a pair!! I find the pair I MUST have on line and put it into my shopping cart. YAY! I go to check out, and wait, what’s this?? 10% off if I get their credit card. Ok, why not, I’ll never shop there again probably, but 10% is money. And look!! It tells me I’m pre-approved! All I have to do is enter my birth date. And the earliest option for the year of my birth is 1950. Well, shit. ME: 1949. I want those jeans but I can’t have them because the spinny date thing starts at 1950. And I tried EVERYTHING to bypass that. Ageism is real!! And I suspect not legal. Any of you YOUNGER than old bag me, can go to New York and Company’s website and apply for a card. But not me. (and yes, I have other credit cards, but I am ranting about a company who won’t give me a discount on the jeans I lust for because I am too old)
Did they have good pockets? Comfy jeans with good pockets are worth going to battle over.
I have a funeral to go tomorrow. We weren’t too close. For me the tragedy is that I never got to know him better. BUT, I cannot find my suit. I checked my bedroom closet. No suit. I checked my coat closet. No suit. If I cannot find the suit, a variety of things will come to a head and I’ll have (and I mean this literally as a man with diagnosed anxiety disorders) an anxiety attack.
Normally, I think dress codes are stupid and classist. But, this is J’s funeral if I don’t wear a formal attire people will think I did not care for or respect him- and I did.
I cannot find my suit. I am having flashbacks to the death of my niece ( I was visiting my family in Florida. I asked if I would need a suit. Everybody said no. Then my wonderful niece was killed in crash <It was the finding of the court it was 100% the other driver’s fault.>. I loved her deeply. She loved me the same way. I was horrified at the thought that people would see me in a polo shirt and khakis and think I didn’t care. As it turned out, I worried for nothing as she spoke of her Unc Unc often and everybody knew how much we loved each other.) I need calming.
My father was in advertising and worked with lots of printing companies. At his funeral, a lot of the blue collar workers at those companies came in their work clothes. I was deeply touched that these people gave up their lunch break to attend his service, and the fact that they were in their work clothes didn’t bother me one bit.
Do your best to dress respectfully. It’s not a black tie event, it is a place of mourning and people are there to express that however they can. I’ve been to funerals and I’ve seen a variety of styles of clothing, and the one thing everyone has in common is that they wear somber, dark colors. The last one I attended had a blend of folks in suits, T-shirts, and leather jackets. Yet nobody was out of place.
You are good to care but it’s not a fashion show. I would never consider a dark polo and khaki pants to be disrespectful at a funeral. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever worn a suit to one, I usually wear black slacks and a dark button-up shirt.
Thanks to everybody. It turns out my suit is over at the shikseh’s place. Good to know I went through all that because she failed to check her closet thoroughly.
For years I have been getting mailings from various home cleaning services and just tossed them. With the health issues I’ve been having the past two years things have gotten so far out of hand that I finally bit the bullet and got in touch with Molly Maid. They sent someone over to check what needed to be done, give me an estimate, and set up an appointment for two people to come over and clean my kitchen and bathroom. On the morning of the scheduled day I got a phone call that they had called in sick and there wasn’t anyone else available to do the job that day. They couldn’t give me a definite date to reschedule, but told me I would be put on a waiting list, and that I would be notified when they could send someone over.
This was on August 8th. I have called them several times to ask when I could expect to have the work done, Every time I get told that I’m still on the waiting list, and they’ll call me when they can set up an appointment. At least one time it was implied that I might get a call in the morning to confirm that they could send a crew that afternoon.
Is Molly Maid so swamped with work, or so desperately understaffed, that for two months they couldn’t find two people to do a one or two hour cleaning job?
Try your local Nextdoor. Folks who post there are usually happy to tell you who are the good housecleaners and who aren’t. We got our housekeeper that way and it has worked out very well for us.
I’m guessing they are understaffed, like so many entry-level positions all over the place.
As @JaneDoe42 already said, try another service. Molly Maid isn’t the only game in town. My son uses an independent maid service (not a chain/franchise) that’s worked out well for him. They’re flexible and will work on any schedule the customer wants – weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Since I offered to foot the bill, and I’m cheap, I opted for monthly. Bi-weekly would have been better but at least this keeps the apartment from becoming the pigsty that it otherwise would be.
What I wanted was a one-time cleaning on those two rooms, although I am considering getting signing up for scheduled cleaning sometime later. What annoys me is the run-around I keep getting on when they’ll be available to do the work. If I can’t count on them to come in once, how can I be sure they’d do regularly scheduled cleanings in the future?
I have seen cleaners advertising and recommended on Next Door, and I think I may go with that. This is actually the second time this has happened. Early in the year I had signed up with another cleaning service online. A date was set and nobody ever showed up. When I called the customer service to find out why the person I spoke to couldn’t find any record of my order. They said they’d look into it and call me back. Never heard from them again.
I’m guessing they are short staffed and think that their regular customers are more important than someone who just wants someone in once for a good clean up.
Our housekeeper comes in once a week and does our place in about two hours. Back when the world ended, we took over cleaning our own place for a couple of months and even despite that, it took her almost 4 hours the first time back. It is harder to do a good clean up than regular maintenance.
I know that our housekeeper will do one time cleanings if they pay well enough but she really doesn’t like them.
Good luck finding someone you are comfortable with, we’ve had ours for almost five years and adore her. It is so nice to go out for breakfast and come back to a sparkling clean home.
