A traditional “pub” was just somebody dedicating a room in their house for serving drinks out of, so it could have been a house and pub at the same time. From Wikipedia:
Pubs as we know them today first appeared in the 19th century. Before this time alehouses were largely indistinguishable from private houses and the poor standard of rural roads meant that, away from the larger towns, the only beer available was often brewed by the publican himself.
I’ve seen commentators speculate that there would be no way to portray an aboriginal character in an inoffensive way since the existence of ghosts goes against their views on death. Just passing it on since I have no idea if that’s true.
I wish they would set up Janus as a legitimate threat to the ghosts. Patience never panned out, but the ghosts need someone to be genuinely scared of. When Janus pulled out that ghost gun he should have accidently taken out the headless biker.
My wife and I have watched every episode of this version over the past month or so. It was sad to get caught up because we have really enjoyed the entire show.
I’m glad it is renewed for two more seasons, but we’ll miss have 60+ episodes laid out for us to watch.
Well, the 4/24 episode was a decent one. I enjoyed getting a bit more of Stephanie’s back story. She’s a layered and complex character. If one of the eight main ghost actors decides to leave the show, they should promote her to the main ghost cast.
This was, if I recall correctly, the first network sitcom to actually treat 4/20 as a holiday. The ghosts getting high at the end was a nice touch. Alberta would have made more sense in that scene than Trevor. I’m sure there was plenty of sticky icky being smoked in the crowd she ran with in her day.
With two episodes left for Season Four, I’m going to speculate on this season’s cliffhanger. I think Sam is going to be pregnant. The ghosts, especially Pete and Flower, are going to flip a biscuit. Then when she’s born next season, Sam and Jay will name the baby Henrietta. Thor will suggest some gruesome christening (as it were) Viking ceremony for her wherein she’s bathed in ram’s blood or something. Trevor will call her his little sheyfele and flip out over her punum. When she’s teething or colicky, Flower will walk through her and get her high and she’ll calm down. And then, for the S5 cliffhanger, it will be revealed that the baby can see the ghosts.
Really, they need to have me in the writers’ room.
*Historically, Thor would probably have been a Christian, as he died c. 1,000 and Christianity had been in Scandinavia for a century by that time. But hasn’t he also name-checked the Norse gods? Either way, he’ll find an excuse to bathe Baby Heddy in blood.
Also, I hope the producers take a page out of the C.S.I. book and start an in-universe franchise spinoff. I can picture it now: Ghosts: West. Couple inherits a crumbling old mansion in St. Louis. This time, instead of a near death experience allowing the Living female to see the ghosts, she’ll have had the ability since birth and at first she thinks local teenagers are having a costume party or whatever. Ghosts include a French trapper, a pioneer woman, a flashy riverboat gambler, a closeted gay Catholic cardinal (a nod to the name of the city’s baseball team AND to its Catholic history), a German brewer…
A spoiler headline I saw on my Google News feed weeks back had something to do with a guest star on an upcoming episode that can also see ghosts. I didn’t read the article because I didn’t want to know details of the episode, but for the past couple of episodes I’ve expected Trevor’s friend and Prom Girl’s date to see everybody.
