Ghosts US Season Five spoilers and general discussion

Yeah, that is an old gag.

So the number of Livings who know about Sam’s ability to see the Ghosts is now, by my estimate, three: Kyle, Bela, and now Mark. I wonder if this is going to open up the show to Mark and the Ghosts getting into shenanigans involving each other. Having Thor manipulate the lights as proof of the Ghosts’ existence was a … choice. I think it would have been way funnier if Jay had made Flower walk through Mark and get him high, or have Isaac walk through him and make the whole room smell of fart. Or have Trevor poke him in the weiner.

I was disappointed that Pete talking things over with the ghost at the mayor’s house took place off-screen. Maybe they filmed it and it wound up on the cutting room floor. Or maybe it was always going to take place off-screen - you know, save money on sets and actors and all that.

Pete’s declaration that “Woodstone is saved!” just struck me as premature. Yes, the mayor’s money is going to help, but there are a few episodes left in the season, and it seems early that they’re going to abandon the Woodstone-is-threatened plotline.

Finally, did anyone notice Crash in the barn scene where all the ghosts were voting? Kind of a nice touch, having all Ghosts (house, shed, basement, bunker, etc.) in the same place at the same time. Though I didn’t see Stephanie (80s teen girl murder victim) there.

I’m thinking really hard here, and I don’t think Alison’s ability to see Ghosts was ever revealed to anyone besides Mike in the British version.

Yeah, I saw Crash, as well, and also didn’t see Stephanie.

I doubt that, the mayor is obviously- to me- skeevy- and he will try to take over/sell the House.

If the mayor tries to takeover Woodstone Manor, perhaps the ghost Pete met at his house will provide them with blackmail material they can use to shut him down. I think the UK program had something similar, where the ghosts provided information on the next-door neighbors.

I may have heard it wrong but I thought I heard someone say something about “selling a majority share” (to the mayor.) Please tell me I’m wrong. That would be worse than, say, posting something to Instagram for a few likes. Oh, wait…

That makes sense.

Sadly, you are not wrong.

Of course, since the tax issues are only two years old? IIRC, the IRS wouldnt be interested yet, and since it would be wages- there would be withholding. Maybe it was trading profits? In that case, stock trades need a basis for any profits, so all they really need to do is hire a good CPA or EA who will backfile the returns, and they wont owe that much.

Kylie Minogue and her assistant.

Things are looking up for the Arendekars! The Mayor has bailed out Woodstone and has abandoned his plans for a boob restaurant. Big Shot Hollywood Producer has secured Woodstone for an upcoming season of a steamy reality show AND has shown interest in Sam’s script. With two back-to-back episodes remaining this season, will it all come crashing down? Probably; what else can they do for a season-ending cliffhanger?

Well, AI tells me that Jay’s IRS situation is still ongoing, so there’s that. Plus, the season will end with a two-part cliffhanger, so something is going to be amiss. My money is on it having something to do with Jay’s IRS troubles, but who knows.

Did anyone pick up on any clues in the previous episode that might point towards the cliffhanger?

I only watched it once - I’m sure if I rewatched the teasers at the end I’d figure out more - but it sounds like the Big Shot Hollywood Producer storyline may spin off another series…?

IRL, that whole “IRS troubles thing” doesnt work like that.

In a show with ghosts visible to living people, is the fact that they are not accurately portraying an IRS tax issue really a big deal?

Many such books and shows, work on the “one impossible thing”- in other words, the ghosts are indeed fantasy, but the rest of the series doesnt show them performing real magic, or stuff like Unicorns, etc. That is one thing that makes Ghosts fun- the viewers can rely upon just that one fantastic thing.

The Ghosts that inhabit the Hollywood studio lot where the movie is being made! There will be an Old West gambler, an oil tycoon, a Mexican bandito or some shit, etc…

I’m still hoping that the show will bring a baby into it. I know, I know, babies & kids ruin good sitcoms, yada yada, but imagine the fun the Ghosts would have with a Little Arendekar! Thorfinn can sing to her, like he did to Hetty, Flower can pass through her and “comfort” her when she’s teething, Hetty can obsess over Sam not dressing her properly, etc…

Having an adult die in some accident is tragic, but a baby ghost is too sad for TV.

Unless I’m wooshed, I fear I’ve been misunderstood. I meant a baby Living (viz, Sam & Jay’s baby).

Oh, well that wouldnt be as bad, but…but - I thought you liked Ghosts? :weary_cat:

(yes a baby can kill a sitcom, and has)

Well then. We all got the cliffhanger no one was expecting: the Woodstone-in-peril thing wrapped up with about five minutes left on the clock. By that time, we all knew what was happening to Pete, so there’s the cliffhanger: Pete’s fate.

There’s no indication that Richie Moriarty will be leaving the show. Certainly he will be tight-lipped between now and Season 6, but for the moment I think it’s safe to assume that he’ll be back. He’ll probably miss the first episode or two (a la Flower in a recent season). It would be hella cool if they put him in some sort of Purgatory, I’d like to see how the writers interpret that. Of course, the main cast will be focused on how to contact him or get him back, which leaves the door wide open for Elias to swoop in with some Elias-related chicanery.

I also enjoyed seeing Nancy’s backstory. I was rolling when she and Whatshisname were discussing how cholera spreads while smiling and drinking polluted water. And Betsy Sodaro is a great actress, although she plays the same character in every role.

Loose ends: We still don’t know how Sass died (you’d think that after five years, Sam would have asked). The writers also seem to have just forgotten that Sam signed a deal to have Steamy Romance Reality Show filmed at Woodstone. And pre-season spoilers said that Flower’s Ghost Powers were going to be “expanded,” but it must have been extremely subtle because I missed it entirely.

Here’s looking forward to Season 6!

Yikes! Richie Moriarty is pregnant??
