Ghosts (US Version): Who Got Sucked Off In Season 2 Cliffhanger (open spoilers for US and UK even in the OP)

Hmm. lots of interesting ghost possibilities with a German version of the show…ghost Goethe (always glum, bit of a downer), ghost Nietzsche (rude and argumentative, high opinion of himself), even ghost Hitler (Dieter Hitler, that is-- a mild-mannered farmer from the early 18th century).

Literally just saw this article

And started thinking about possible ghosts and wishing I could watch it.

Is Hitler ever referenced, even in jest, in German entertainment? Could be funny but I’m not sure they would go there. If it follows the same framework as UK/ US it will be spirits representing different eras over German history, about which I know very little.

The article lists the characters:

First teased in March as Series Mania, the series will follow the plot line of the original. It will centre around young couple Emma (Cristina do Rego) and Felix (Benito Bause), who inherit an old mansion and decide to turn it into a hotel, but after a near-death accident, Emma begins seeing ghosts. The bizarre and chaotic apparitions include neanderthal Urs (Jan van Weyde), Roman legionnaire Claudius (Max Giermann), countess Adelheid (Antje Widdra), feminist maid Griet (Meltem Kaptan), insurance salesman Joachim (Sebastian Schwarz), teacher Svenni (Sina Tkotsch) and love-hungry poet Friedrich Dorn (Alexander Khuon).

Note that “teacher Svenni (Sina Tkotsch)” has an arrow through her neck.

As a foreigner looking in, I would expect to see a Jewish family of ghosts hiding in the attic with the furnace. But they will probably go with plague ghosts in the basement.

Taking another look at the cast photo:

I believe that is “insurance salesman Joachim (Sebastian Schwarz)” who is pantless.

Their Neanderthal doesn’t seem to be wearing any facial prosthetics like Robin.

All of the ghosts are white but they are maintaining the tradition of the living couple being mixed race.

Mrs. Homie joke about what ghosts would be in our house, if a) either of us believed in ghosts and b) there were any here*. We’ve decided we only have three instead of eight, mainly because we couldn’t think of eight people. But our three our Jean-Claude, the French trapper; Josiah, the pioneer dude; and Mika Sauk, the Native Osage Indian.

*Every now and then our house will smell strongly of tobacco smoke. Mrs. H and I don’t smoke, nor does/did the person who sold it to us, nor does the person who built in the 70s and sold it to her in c. 2012. We blame Jean-Claude and tell him to knock it off.

They also appear to be maintaining the tradition of having someone killed by an arrow through the neck (Pat and Pete), the pantsless person (Julian and Trevor), and the person from pre-history (Robin and … well, Thor doesn’t really count but he’s the oldest American ghost so…).

So the first thing wrong with that is furnaces do not go in attics.

‘Round these parts (California) they do, but they were all pretty much built after WWII. Our houses are haunted by wannabe movie stars and serial killers.

The couple that lived here previously, the husband died in the house.

We got the house cheaper for that.

It is haunted- by cats. there’s only three but at times it seems like either 0 or a dozen.

I’ve just watched the 3rd season as it’s just arrived here and I’ve got a few thoughts. I really don’t like the “and to every ghost there will be a special power” narrative being built. It was good that Julian/Trevor was the only ghost with a truly gamebreaking power and most didn’t have anything at all. The more every ghost has a power the less the “ghosts exist and most people are unaware of them” conceit works.

I’m pissed off with the selfishness of the US ghosts. Sam and Jay bend over backwards for them, (much more than Alison and Mike did), yet everything they do is tho wheedle more and more. The $10,000 should have been Sam’s non-negotiable as she did all the work to type and market the biography of a rather inadequate man, but when Trevor essentially gambled with Sam’s money, (Julian and Isaac weren’t going to pay if the gamble failed were they?) absolutely all the gambling winnings were hers, plus Sass with the pizza oven and the ladies letting Sam potentially go down for murder because their feelings were hurt.

In the UK one it was implied, (and later confirmed in the final season) that Julian tried to kill Alison, but they pretty much chalked that up to early episode weirdness and walked that back for most of the series, by season 2 although there was some pettiness the ghosts were generally onside.

Just a reminder that season 4 starts tonight (10/17). I’m most looking forward to meeting Patience.
