I’m really glad that Lorelai was able to show some of her spark again with April and her friends. Lorelai has been really depressed lately and she was finally starting to revert back to her old Lorelai self.
Of course Anna Nardini had to ruin it. Lorelai really doesn’t deserve to be treated like that! I mean, even if she wasn’t engaged to Luke, would Anna have flipped out if he and his “friend” threw April a surprise party? Maybe, but I don’t think any other normal person would. Anna could ask anyone in Stars Hollow about Lorelai’s character, and they’d get rave reviews. It’s not fair that Anna gets to dictate how much exposure Lorelai gets to her future stepdaughter.
Even though the Lorelai/Anna thing blew up, I’m glad that Rory grew a spine and told Mitchem (sp?) off. He really needed to be taken down a peg or two for treating his offspring so badly.
But the best part of the show was Paris calling the hospital and getting the 411 on Logan’s condition. Who knew her aggressiveness could be used for good?
Overall it wasn’t a great episode, but I’ll take it. Next week had better be good!
Well, I missed last week’s show (but I have seen online recaps, so I’m not totally in the dark.)
Something about Anna’s philosophy towards raising her kid doesn’t ring true. She said that she’s very protective of April and who she meets, but it was okay for her to go and do that DNA testing? Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. But I guess that some kind of plot complication was needed after Lorelei and April hit it off.
And Luke actually had a reason for keeping Lorelei and April apart - he was afraid he was too boring compared to L. I liked him better when we all thought he was just being dense about the whole thing.
I wonder who ended up with the kitty bathroom set?
Luke’s fear was something that many real life men have experienced when trying to get to know their offspring.
I’m trying to figure out how this new complication will play out. I’m guessing that when Luke says the wedding is on again Lorelei will have to wonder if he’s doing it because of Anna’s objections.
The Paris scene was good but I wish the writers had felt up to task of actually letting us hear what she said to the doctor.
Being overprotective of who is in her child’s life? Dating rules? Anna Nardini is so Lorelei Gilmore ten years ago. They even look alike!
I don’t see Luke and Lorelei getting married anytime soon. Both are very unsettled right now. Now Logan and Rory…that is another question. I think she was really bothered by what happened to him and this may pull them closer to the altar.
Miss Patty: She’s on Lorelei’s side the whole way on this. She realizes how frustrated L. is about the way Luke’s been acting. I just wish I could have seen her at the wedding.
I think we’re going to start seeing different behavior from Mitch now. He didn’t say a word to Rory at the hospital, and Rory didn’t let on to Logan that she was responsible for him showing up (which is 100% what I expected from her on that). Yeah, Mitch is re-assessing his judgement of Rory right now, I’d say.
So what about next week’s teaser. Who did Luke ask that question of? And is the elopement question going to be the season cliff-hanging finale?
Still not happy with the show, but it was nice to see some of Lorelai’s spunk back. Anna Nardini’s annoying. Not sure why she’d rather thrust the poor kid into a relationship with a stepmother straight off the bat than let April get to know Lorelai before the wedding.
Rory and Logan…ugh. Very tired of that. Loved Paris’ phone call to the hospital, though.
I’m glad they finally came up with an explanation for Luke leaving Lorelai out of the picture. It’s not a great reason, but it makes some sense that he thinks he can’t compete with her.
Anna’s reasons don’t make sense. And they conflict with each other is it that she doesn’t want a possibly temporary person in April’s life? Or is it because she doesn’t want an unknown adult in April’s life? And why the different responses? BTW, with regard to the former (and I don’t know this because it never came up for me), is it as big of a deal for a kid of April’s age? I can see how it would be a huge consideration for a smaller child or if it were the SO of the parent with primary custody - but at 13, it doesn’t seem like it should matter as much for the kid to meet an SO of the non-custodial parent.
I honestly thought Anna had a point; Lorelai and Luke have been engaged as long as Luke has been in April’s life, and there have been no moves towards actually getting married as far as she knows.
On the other hand, it does seem inconsistent with the whole DNA testing thing. But that seems irresponsible, while this makes sense.
She did overreact, and I don’t think such a blanket policy is necessary, but Luke should have run it by her before getting Lorelai so involved, and definitely before turning the party into a sleepover.
She’s probably only partly worried about April, and partly worried about being replaced. April said that Lorelai reminds her of Anna. She may have made a similar comment to her mother, which could have sent her over the edge.
As for Logan, I wish he’d apologized for that whole bridesmaids thing now that he’s been close to death and seen what’s truly yadda yadda yadda. He never really apologized, just clarified that it wasn’t cheating, and he didn’t think of it as cheating when he did it. Great, but he needs to apologize anyway.
I wonder if Mitchum will grow to respect Rory now. She’s obviously proven that she’s not too timid to speak up and offer an opinion when it really matters, and his objection before was that she didn’t seem to have the necessary moxie to be a reporter. I think this episode shows otherwise.
Oh, and I liked Luke’s reason for excluding Lorelai. If they needed a reason, this was probably the best possibility, and the best way of resolving the problem.
At least everyone’s relationship issues are out in the open now.
This episode was written by the guy who is taking over the show next season now that the Pallidinos are leaving. David Rosenthal (the writer) is quite the character… and by character I mean… went bat shit crazy, wrote a play about wanting to have sex with Heidi Klum, and gave away a million dollars.
The reveal as to why Luke has been keeping April away from Lorelai was the first sensical thing that has happned in that story in awhile. It was a legitimate reason.
I’ve seen parents act the same way as Mama Nardini. Parents are not always rational.
I’m willing to bet Luke’s question (from the teaser) is to either his sister or good lord I’d love it if it went to Kirk and Lulu.
Lovely. Not that Daniel Palladino’s doing much better this season. I just checked the IMDB and Amy Sherman-Palladino did write last week’s episode, which I loved. Now I know why - it was pure A. S.-D. Ugh. Too bad she can’t write every episode - last week proved that she’s still got a great handle on the characters that she created.
I have an urge to go back and watch 1st and 2nd season DVDs now.
I thought I saw that it was written by Rebecca Rand Kirschner. ??
Anyway, I think Daniel Palladino is a better writer than most GG fans give him credit for, but if I know anything about how these shows work, all the good lines from every episode are ASP’s. Listening to the commentaries on the Buffy DVD’s (I feel the comparison is allowable given that it’s half the same writing staff), everybody always says that whenever their friends compliment them on a great line in an episode credited to them, it’s inevitably a Whedon gloss; I’d wager it’s the same deal here.
