This was the season finale, and the last episode that the Palladinos will work on (they couldn’t come to an agreement with the new network on bringing in more writers). And boy, was it a doozy!
Rory calls Mitch to task about what he’s doing to Logan, and he clearly and succinctly puts Rory in her place about the whole issue. Basically, it’s time for Logan to grow up and stop ignoring his talent, and if he won’t do it himself, then Mitch will give him the push he needs. Go Mitch!
Emily does the world’s worst match making attempt ever. But I kind liked the woman Caroline. She had the good grace to not be put out when Christopher obviously wasn’t interested in her. Go Caroline!
Lorelei gave Luke an ultimatum: April fits into their lives, not the other way around. Elope or say goodbye. Luke said wait, Lorelei said goodbye. I hope Taylor kept the break-up ribbons.
And then Christopher gets some from a floozy that shows up at his door. Go Christopher!
Didn’t Luke promise the town that he would would close up shop and leave if he an Lorelei broke up so they wouldn’t have to choose sides?
Given the way Luke and Lorelei deal with each other. Marriage is a bad idea. April’s mom was right. She already said in this episode that she doesn’t love Christopher so it’s time for a new man. How about Taylor or Michel? (“Kurt doesn’t count.” Mrs. Kim)
I don’t buy that she doesn’t love Christopher. She can say she loves Luke all she wants, she can claim that she never loved Max or Christopher, but her body language is so much different when she’s around Christopher - she’s ALIVE. With Luke, she’s cowed and timid - that’s NEVER been Lorelai. I was so glad to see her let him have it last night - that’s the Lorelai I’ve grown to know and love. She and Christopher have a huge spark that she’s never had with Luke.
I was watching first season DVDs last weekend, and I realized that even then, there wasn’t really a ‘love’ spark with Luke - there’s a great friendship rapport, but NOT a ‘love’ spark.
And I hope to God that Alexis Bledel never EVER attempts a British accent again. We know she’ll never get a part in an Emma Thompson/Jane Austen film. Thank God.
Mitch is married (to the woman that Emily called a “cocktail waitress” at the DAR '40s function that Rpry threw.) Besides, Lorelei hates him too. As for Taylor, there’s no way Lorelei can be with a man that hates music that much.
And I really hope that Alexis’ Brit accent was supposed to be that bad. But come to think of it, I didn’t find her “hooker” accent to be too believable in Sin City.
I don’t mind Lorelai ending up with Christopher, as long as she looks a bit happier about it than she did at the end of last night’s episode (which was a great bookend to the beginning of the ep, incidentally). I don’t think it’s a *great * idea, because I think there’s too much history there. He’s let her down too many times for her to ever fully trust him, IMO, but they do love each other, and *get * each other, and as long as they managed their expectations, I think they could have a pretty successful relationship.
The idea of Luke and Lorelai was fabulous. The execution of Luke and Lorelai has sucked out loud. They simply don’t work as a couple. They’re both moody, self-involved, and stubborn, which was okay when they were friends, and didn’t take each other’s moody self-involved stubborness personally, but since they got together it’s like they live in fear of each other, and rightly so, since each of their worst traits is amplified tenfold. Luke is even more insensitive, Lorelai is even more passive-aggressive, and the two of them are even more defensive. It’s painful to watch.
I liked Rory realizing that Mitch was right about Logan.
I want Lorelei and Luke to marry so they don’t get anymore chances to inflict themselves on others. Then I want a big bolt of lightning to strike the two of 'em while they’re on their honeymoon because I am just sick of both of 'em right now.
I have been giggling for 10 minutes thinking of Taylor and Michel together.
I did like the way Mitchum let Rory have it about Logan. I completely agree, it’s grow up time for Logan. Rory needs to grow up some too. I’m glad there will be a Rory/Logan storyline next season. I still have a feeling he’s good for her. I liked their goodbye scene. IMO that was the best scene in the show.
Here’s how I see Lorelei’s relationship with Christopher. She hates it when he is involved with somebody or even if she thinks there’s a chance he’ll be involved with anybody. It’s obvious she was jealous over Emily’s attempted fixup of Christopher and Caroline. So, what does she do, when Luke says no to eloping? I’m not sure if I’m mad with Christopher or not for letting her stay at his place. She could have gone over to Sukey’s and Jackson’s, after all. Or just gone the hell home!
I loved all the minstrels roaming about Star’s Hollow. That was a good comedy bit. Neil Young… one of the Monkee’s… BWAAAHAAAHAAAHAAA!!! That was good!
Well the episode didn’t suck… like last weeks…
Another completely pointless sub plot with the troubadors… again not as godawful as the Sookie/Jackson bags of weed plot last week.
Rory’s accent was supposed to be bad… Logan even commented on it. She did look pretty hot as a strawberry blonde mod girl.
I called it months ago that Lor’ would end up at Christopher’s at the season finale…this is what? The third go round with them since the series started?
I loved Jan from The Office showing up as Chris’ set up. That woman delights me. Shes gorgeous, has an amazing voice and is a great actress.
How on Earth did Chloe from ‘24’ find time to become a troubador, I’ll never know.
I thought it was a great ending to the show. Yes, yes, I know it’s not technically over, but I think it’s a reasonable assumption that with the guiding lights gone – esp. since one or both of the Palladinos wrote over 2/3ds of all the episodes – that it’s not going to be anything like the same show next year.
Anyway, I have what some might call a somewhat pessimistic view of life. And given, that, I thought this the perfect ending – Lorelai is so into being her own animal that her coping mechanism for intimacy with anyone but Rory (and even then) is to be passive-aggressive, then to go sleep with Christopher. As I’ve said before about this show, Lorelai and Christopher would have been perfect for each other if Rory had come along 5 or 10 years later. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Christopher is the only man on the show who has ever been able not only to keep up with Lorelai but to give as good as he got. But because Lorelai got knocked up, it ruined them for each other. Now all they can do is fuck it up for anyone else. 30 years from now Lorelai’s going to go on a few dates with a nice widower from her canasta group, but if it really seems like it’s going somewhere, she’ll end up cruising by the library where post-retirement Christopher volunteers three days a week and they’ll make out in the stacks.
Indeed, as I think about it, this is one thing that the Logan character serves – as much as he and Rory’s relationship is tumultuous to say the least, he and Rory show what Lorelai and Christopher could have been to each other if things went another way.
And Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon in Stars Hollow…how’s that for indie cred?
I just don’t know how they can have Lorelei and Christopher together next season. If they do that, Luke is essentially off the show. His character has no reason to exist (especially in the show’s final season) without a romantic entanglement with Lorelei.
I agree with those who say Lorelei and Christopher should be together, but I don’t know how the show can pull it off.
I read that the Palladino’s put together a wish list of musicians they wanted on the show, and hired them all for this episode.
But still, no Carole King? I was hoping to see her looking out of her store, seeing everything that was going on, and either going out there to join them or to give them pointers. Lane discovered, remember, that her character (can’t remember the name) was an established recording artist in the past.
The execution of the Luke/Lorelai relationship has been unworthy of everyone involved. Lorelai has become timid and explosive by turns. Luke, who has historically been extremely considerate of Lorelai, has forgotten that there are other people in the world with feelings. Neither of them is communicating. The people they were 11 months ago should get married. These people should shut up and go away.
Christopher should NOT have let her talk him into sleeping with her, no matter how pathetic she seemed. Until that point, I was thinking, Lorelai has always loved Christopher. He proposed once, and she couldn’t marry him because he was unstable. Now he’s stable. He understands what it takes. If not for the fact that she really needs to have a real conversation with Luke (not an accusatory shouting match in the street, but a conversation) and resolve things once and for all, then I would say that she should just marry Christopher and get it over with. They’re a great couple. Much better than what Lorelai and Luke have devolved into.
But when I saw Lorelai in Christopher’s bed in the morning, I was disgusted. Christopher is more mature than that. He’s a father. He has a responsible job. He inherited money and immediately offered to do whatever he could with Rory. These are good signs. But when it comes to Lorelai, Chris just always seems years behind himself.
Why did the Palladinos screw up the show before abandoning it? Whatever idiot they have running things now deserves a better lead-in than this.
Wow. My view is 180 degrees away from that. Lorelai and Christopher are fucked up and broken w/r/t romantic relationships, esp. the one between the two of them. And no matter how likeable or responsible the characters are/have ecome, there’s never been a shred of evidence to the contrary. Just because you want to slap the characters that don’t mean it ain’t great TV.
