Is the Mafia interest finally waning a bit? I mean, half the people didn’t vote yesterDay. What the hell were they all doing?
If that many players are going to not vote at all, it makes active scum players much easier to control the votes. Come on, people.
Wow, I did not see that. Are you sure? The hammer fell. Didn’t that require half votes?
Red mean that less than half voted on the Day extension.
Yeah, Idle, only 6 didn’t vote.
It is weird not enough of us voted to extend the Day.
I assumed people would want it to be extended.
Vote Gadarene
There are several reasons, some strong, some weakish, why Gadarene seems like scum to me. I’ll be surprised if he flips as Town.
With their Roleblocker looking like a probable Lynch on Day 1, surely Scum felt desperate. The sudden bandwagon against MentalGuy might have seemed like a Godsend. Gadarene, peekercpa, Astral Rejection, and special ed all voted to Lynch MentalGuy and I’ll be watching all of them, but of these there is just one whom I find most suspicious.
When Town is debating between two Lynch candidates, uncertainty is the norm. (After all, if it were obvious who was scum, scum would need a team much larger than four to have a chance.) When a Townie’s candidate fails to be Lynched, as often as not the majority candidate will turn out to be as good a choice anyway. Thus as Townies we state our case and wait for the wisdom of the majority.
Yet Gadarene was adamant in pursuing the MentalGuy Lynch to save Pleo, as though he were fully confident that exactly one of these two was on his team. And we now know that Pleo was indeed Scum, and Mental Town.
In several posts during the final Lynch debate (#432, #445, #452, #487, #502 to mention just a few) Gadarene campaigned against MentalGuy; most of these posts advanced no new arguments at all.
For a while, Gadarene had a vote on Pleo but he was much less adamant about that choice. Indeed in post #391 he kept his vote on Pleo despite that Pleo “pings town for me” – just the illogical vote-comment relationship he later jumped on MentalGuy so strongly for,
While these are the strong points, I get two other weakish scum-pings from Gadarene. As a novice I often hear “Don’t follow others; think for yourself” and “Your thinking is flawed; learn from the experienced players.” I’m sure both pieces of advice have merit, but they do contradict each other, so I was surprised to effectively get both from Gadarene (in #413 and #464 respectively).
Finally, late in Day 2, we had players happy to prolong the Day and others, including Gadarene, rooting for the Hammer. It’s a very small point which I wouldn’t mention without all the other scum-tells, but to a Townie with nothing to do at Night, there may seem little difference between a 2-day delay and a 3-day delay. A scum, OTOH, might be happy not only to squelch Town debate, but also eager to finalize his team’s Night actions.
Therefore, in full color:
Vote Gadarene
The only assumption I can make is that the majority generally prefer the day falls where it does.
My gut is telling me that now is the time to sniff around the vote order for Pleonast and see who might have been interested in trying to save his scummy butt. I’m going to be working on that this weekend.
We also, and I say this with some trepidation, need to consider whether or not Idle might actually be playing a gambit. While I’d be on some level overjoyed to know that our points discussion has led the scum to sub-optimal play in an effort to confuse us with regard to the sleepers, it’s gonna lead to some WIFOM for us for a bit.
And finally, I’d like to commend the Vig on being, so far as I can tell, remarkably circumspect. Should probably start thinking about pulling that trigger a little bit, although I’m not going to presume to tell you it’s absolutely what you should do.
My mistake, I read RS’s comment about only half of everyone voting as only half the players voting the Day before.
Still, I count six people who didn’t vote yesterDay, by the end of Day. I’ve never seen that many with a vote not laid down by the end of any Day. Just strikes me as an alarming disinterest.
I didn’t vote because I agreed Red was the best person to lynch and it was going to happen anyway. I presume other people felt the same.
Idle, for the sake of argument, assume they were going to vote for Drain Bead. We had reached a solid consensus, and you can only vote so many times for the same person before the hammer ends the day.
The case on Gadarene mirrors my own thoughts. I’ll reread tomorrow and look for other suspects, but for now I’ll get my vote in nice and early.
Vote Gadarene.
Everybody posted and I believe it was near unaminous to lynch Drain Bead even if they were withholding their vote. At that point, it is impossible to get everyone to vote because the hammer will fall before that happens. The six people who didn’t vote didn’t get a chance to. They were patiently waiting for Day to end.
I, however, did want it to end early because the conversation had mostly died (even taking into consideration people’s sleep schedules). I was also for the extension of Day 3 to 5 days to make up for the lost day in Day 2 (why didn’t more people vote for it?). Getting good conversation with everybody participating was more important than waiting for a couple of people. That might make me a jerk, but I think it’s to Town’s benefit for healthy conversation with many people versus a few people. Just because it was Night doesn’t stop people from rereading the earlier posts and coming up with new conclusions.
Gah! That was meant to be Drain Bead, not Red.
Well done jailor!
To the Gadarene voters: I agree that there’s a fair amount of meat to the case (see my #762) but can you see a scummy Gadarene making the comment in #445 (how bad Suburban will look for voting Pleo over Mental) and #511 (looking for some sort of pass or cred for being first to vote Mental)?
I’ll post my review of Maha when I get on my PC tonight.
I think people didn’t really want to be the “hammer” vote and once the hammer fell, how could those 6 vote?
Posting as I catch up.
How can you be certain there’s no additional information to glean? How do you know that our Cop won’t have useful information for us?
I agree with this in general. However, this point of view doesn’t include all possibilities.
If the Scum were successful on Night 1, Idle could safely claim knowing that only the awakened Town Power Role could counter claim him.
Half of the people didn’t vote for shortening the Day or not.
Since everyone except Drain voted for Drain, we reached the maximum number of votes for the Day yesterDay. The hammer was dropped.
Okay, this makes a bit more sense and I didn’t think of it.
This is why I shouldn’t post as I catch up.
my apologies.
I’m pretty certain since he told us he was blocked last Night that he’s not going to have much to add Today.
