Glee: 1.20 "Theatricality" (open spoilers)

I’ve never seen Yes Dear, but my wife and I are constantly commenting to the effect of: “Wow, he’s come a long way since Guts.” “Let’s go to Mo for the final scores. Mo!”

Wasn’t thrilled with the music this episode, but the acting was pretty stellar.

Loved the “lampshading” moment with the piano player. Also, in addition to Burt’s great performance, check out the way Rachel says “Bring it!” in her conversation with Shelby. Beautifully nuanced…

No, he said “I’m the guy who replaced Peter when he quit.” Peter Criss, the drummer wit the cat makeup, left the band for a while.

Best episode of the season. Ryan Murphy is doing some great things with character development. Even the people we root for make mistakes, have opinions we disagree with, and say stupid things they don’t mean. Finn was justified in being angry, and Burt was justified in taking him to task for what he said. That’s life.

And there’s so much going on in the background! Quinn has had nearly no lines for a couple episodes, yet we’ve learned a lot about her just from her gesture towards Artie last ep, and her teaming up with Rachel and Mercedes in this one.

Lady Gaga approved. She twittered “GLEE WAS SO AMAZING! AH!!!”

Several things…

My first reaction to the Finn-Kurt-Burt explosion: Kurt does everything but hump on Finn’s leg until Finn explodes and FINN IS THE BAD GUY? And yeah, if Kurt lashed out at the two football players & called one a Nigger and the other a Fat Sack of Shit, that would have been excusable also.
Second reaction: If this episode ends with Finn coming to terms with his own heretofore-totally-unhinted-at homosexuality, this’ll prove the show has just as little integrity & as much of an agenda as a Fundie-made show that’ll have Kurt successfully going through Reorientation Therapy.
Third reaction: Except for Burt & Finn needng a reconciliation scene, the show handled that just right.

I don’t think Poker Face was a bad Rachel-Shelby duet and also they seemed quite aware how inappropriate the Muffin & Love-Glue-Gunnin’ lines for their relationship.

The Principal BELIEVES in Vampires? Uh yeah.

Quinn’s gonna keep the baby. I’m sure of it. And maybe give Puck a chance to be a Dad.

Why does Finn get harrassed by his fellow football players but not Puck, except for the fact that Puck’d bitch-slap them so hard their ancestors’ ghosts would feel it?

The KISS pyrotechnics & other elaborate musical scenes, I think are intended as a fantasy element. No way they could afford nor the school allow shooting flames. But if you’re gonna rock out to KISS, you’ll have the fireworks in your head.

I did expect a Sue appearance, and wouldn’t be surprised if this happens in the future- I suspect that it’ll be “Good Sue” who gives the two football players their comeuppance.

There were no flames - that was clouds of steam with floodlights. If it was fire, one of those guys would’ve burst into flames, since he was so close to it.

Nope, I just checked the tivo. “I’m dressed as the guy who replaced Artie when he quit.” Which I’m pretty sure means “the guy who replaced Artie’s character, Ace Frehley, when he quit.”

Though I know next to nothing about Kiss, a brief skim of the wiki article leads me to believe he meant Vinnie Vincent, though he doesn’t have an Ankh on his head. The rest of the makeup fits relatively well.

Just don’t send Artie to live on a farm somewhere!!!

How does Lady Gaga like her steak? Raw raw RAW RAW RAW!

Yeah, I totally stole that from GraphJam.

Oh, I just had an awful thought.

I do not want Shelby to wind up adopting Quinn and Puck’s baby. That would be too neat and I don’t want too neat.

I’m more afraid of Quinn giving birth with all accompanying sitcom drama (e.g. in a van during an earthquake while some trapped in a trashcan). Just send her to the hospital and let her have an event free birth and give the baby up for adoption.

Like you could live that close to Finn and not hump on his leg! A man’s only made of skin and blood and boners after all.

It doesn’t have to be Good Sue, remember Kurt is also a Cheerio and Sue Sylvester is not going to let anyone (well, other than herself) fuck with her Cheerios like that.

Meh. Corey Monteith is cute, but given the choice between him and Mark Salling…

Finn wouldn’t say “retarded” in front of that one Cheerio, but I bet he wouldn’t even think twice about saying “lame” in front of Artie.

True, but if you couldn’t have Mark Salling and Corey’s leg was right there, you’d do him.

Lame doesn’t have a pejorative context when applied to handicapped people though- it’s more “biblical” and technical. The ‘faggy’ version of lame would be gimp perhaps, which he probably wouldn’t say around Artie. May seem nitpicking, but it was retard he said he wouldn’t say around Becky, not retarded- there’s a big difference (basically technical v. insult.) ‘Girly’ can be a pejorative but a very very mild one; it’s more like saying ‘that’s a black neighborhood’ or ‘Rachel looks Jewish’- the person saying it may mean it negatively but in and of itself it’s more of a statement of fact than a judgment.
I completely 100% agree that expecting a gay kid and a hunky football player you know he has a crush on to share a bedroom is unreasonable, stupid, and almost plot short-circuiting stupid. I’m 43- my hormones are more under control than Kurt’s- and while I could certainly share a room with Artie, Kurt or Mr. Shu (all of whom I think are super talented but don’t find attractive [no idea why I don’t find Matthew Morrison, who has a great bod and decent face, attractive, but I don’t]) I’d still peek like hell whenever Finn got nekkid. Plus any teenager who has a room to himself is going to masturbate like a howler monkey on acid from time-to-time, that alone would be a super difficult adjustment.

PS- Cory Monteith would be cuter if he didn’t seem like he’s dumber than a hundred chickens and forever on the verge of crying. (Cute butt though- NSFW [but barely] pic).

I have to say that he’s been losing the clueless look over the last few episodes, IMHO. Not that I didn’t think it was adorable, but I’m happy that his eyes aren’t saying “Oh my God, wow, what a fascinating, yet confusing, planet this is” as much as they used to.

I liked the episode. I thought that Burt reacted exactly right from what he overheard/saw about the Kurt - Fin exchange. He doesn’t know that Kurt has a crush, and he probably didn’t hear the part where Fin talked about how uncomfortable he was changing around Kurt and why he was uncomfortable. I he heard was Fin yelling about how ‘faggy’ the stuff was, and he was right that Fin was choosing the most painfull and hurtfull method he could to express how he was feeling. I thought that scene was just increadibly well done.

I also liked the version of “Poker Face” at the end. Although like others there were a few lyrics that I kind of did a “huh?” about between a mother and daughter, I did like that version of the song.

Any idea what tonight’s episode has as its theme?

Thanks for the reminder, Sampiro. Now that AI is over (and just about all the shows I watch have wrapped up for the season), I’m likely to forget to watch anything.
