Glee 11/11 (Spoilers after it airs)

I preferred Kurt’s version. I just found his voice more appealing. Not as breathy or something.

I did love the complicated relationship with his dad.

How much does it cost to rent a dozen wheelchairs for a week anyway?

That’s what permission slips are for.

Aside from that, wouldn’t the wheelchair have fit through that back emergency exit door that most schoolbuses have? Those are wide I’m thinking.

Another thing that weirded me out about this episode was when the teacher just walked over and started tieing his shoe. That was really intrusive I thought! You’d always always ask in that sort of situation!

They didn’t rent them- there was a tag sale, and Will bought them cheap.

What I know is why the AV club is so willing to do his bidding.

AV clubbers are willing to do ANYONE’s bidding.

On reflection, I didn’t mind the softening of Sue too much, because her “soft” is mostly to be just as hard. Sure, she was mushy with her sister, but her method of being nice to the new Cheerio girl is to treat her just as badly as the other cheerleaders: “You think that’s hard? Try auditioning for Baywatch and being told they’re going in a different direction - that’s hard!” And we have probably all encountered complete assholes who are still nice to their family.

Weirdly, the thing that bothered me about the whole “Sue’s nice!” thing was they seemed to try really hard to soften her look and make her prettier for her visit to her sister. She was wearing a lot more makeup and her hair was different. It just seemed like trying too hard.

I’m glad Tina has been faking the stutter, since it’s been driving me up the wall how unrealistic it is. I also think Artie is coming off as kind of a jerk - it did sound to me like “I only liked you because of your disability, and since you don’t really have one, I don’t like you.” I realize the sense of betrayal, and resentment that someone treats a disability as optional when you don’t have a choice, but the way he phrased it seemed a bit prejudiced in itself. Besides, being that shy is a recognized disease anyway.

Why is Kurt’s dad the only parent we’ve ever seen? Will that continue to be the case?

We saw Puck’s mom.

But that was the point. She didn’t discriminate in the way she treated Becky. (BTW, did you notice that Becky was the only one who auditioned with a jump rope?)

That’s another nice example of the subversiveness of Glee. Any “normal” show like this would have had Becky have an impressive talent at jumping rope…sort of a “HA! You thought she was going to be clumsy and just horrible!” On this show…she is. No 11th-hour redemptions, no conventional-wisdom reveals…Becky isn’t a jump-rope savant. Sue may be more human than she lets on, but the gruff, tough bitch act isn’t an act, regardless. Puck may be vulnerable, but he’s still a scofflaw street-punk. Mr. Shuster may be a kind of naive, you-can-do-it-if-you-try teacher/moderator, but he’s not above dirty tricks to get his way.

My point was that Becky was the only one who paid attention to what sort of routine Sue was working on and auditioned appropriately. (Although perhaps her friend Brittany, who was a member of the cheer squad, told her to try jumping rope when auditioning.)

That’s true, too. It was just that the part of my brain that’s been watching TV for 38 years grabbed onto that jump-rope and half-expected her to be some sort of Double Dutch Savant or something, until I remembered what I was watching.

We’ve also seen Finn’s mom, in the pilot (and I think one other episode.)

“Why can’t you find a nice Jewish girl, eat your sweet & sour pork, dear” (paraphrased). I’m not sure if that scene was the funniest or most pathetic thing I’ve seen on TV this year.

TV tray tables, I think that knocked it to the ‘pathetic’ side.

So who has two parents on this show? Rachel. Mercedes has a dentist dad, mom unknown. Tina, unknown, Artie has a mom and dad but not known if they’re together. Kurt’s mom’s dead, Finn’s dad too. Puck describes his dad as a deadbeat. Quinn’s are presumably together enough to burn her at the stake when they find out about the baby. None of the boys seem to have two parents together-maybe Artie. Poor Glee kiddies.

I just forgot. But I still really like the way Kurt’s relationship with his dad is portrayed.

I realize girls do, but I cannot imagine keeping something as monumental as a pregnancy a secret. I can’t even buy a birthday present too early without blowing the surprise.

According to Entertainment Weekly, that’s what the upcoming episode is about, when Finn comes over for dinner.

Just saw it off DVR and I loved it, even though it was kinda a-very-special-episode like. I thought the interaction between Kurt and his dad was very touching and also like that everyone is a bit more complex than the stereotypes most shows have (not just Sue, but also Becky - as said above wasn’t an amazing virtuoso, etc).

I liked that Kurt coming out to dad wasn’t the end of it. Now dad’s getting to see the bigotry his kid lives with, and that it is ongoing and now dad’s subject to it too. Most light dramas have the big coming out, eventually everyone hugs and happily ever after- not so much here.

I just rewatched it on hulu to catch the first few minutes I missed…wonder how much he spent on all those tag-sale wheelchairs, that could have gone towards the $600 for the bus…
