I’m pretty sure that in my lifetime, I’ll get to hear the stories of how it was the Republican Party that was always on the side of gay rights.
I think what he’s referring to is the perceived dismissal of the Tea Party Movement under the broad brush of racists. I suppose he/they believe that civil rights have been turned on their upside down because of the constant accusations that the government is tearing down the Constitution.
I suggest that his instruction to not bring signs is to try and drive home the idea that these are all concerned patriots trying to reclaim their country from a corrupt government headed toward socialism. Probably to help maintain some credibility by preventing some of the racist insulting signs from previous gatherings from becoming the focus of news channels and blogs.
Although I don’t like Beck I have mixed feelings about the Tea Party. I’ve been posting on another site where the liberals and conservatives tend to be more insulting than here. It made me see how unhelpful and non productive that kind of exchange is. Even here we have multiple posters who readily lump liberals conservatives into a one size fits all mold. It doesn’t help.

No, he’s not. He’s annoying as hell when he starts bible-thumping, but when he gets into political and social issues, he’s right on target. And one of the issues he has been pointing out lately is that racism is still running rampant in the USA. I believe that is where he is coming from. He’s making the point that anyone who makes an issue of skin color in any way is a loser, and I agree with that totally.
