Happy birthday, Swampy! Your day sounds very pleasant and I’m a huge fan of New York style cheesecake.
I’m sorry to read about your sister, nellie.
In the end, I chose not to respond to snarky person. Maybe my silence will speak volumes, or maybe she’ll think she “showed” me. Either way, I don’t care. The whole thing was silly and I don’t have time for that kind of drama.
Seeing as how yesterday was my last day of work for two weeks, it ended with a bang. Lots of stuff going on, and a situation with a volatile employee who works in our building, but is not part of my agency. Reports were made, and I have to finish up an email this morning. It’s all very ugly and a little scary for some people. The right people have been notified and action will be taken.
It’s going to be another hot one today. I am well and truly over the heat. We will creep up to the latter half of the nineties today, and while my bedroom is nice and cool, the rest of the house is not, especially upstairs. I really would like for temps to drop back into the 70s, please.
Happy Birthday, Swampy! I’d sing but you’d run. Here’s wishing you a fantabulous day, and many, many more.
I’m trying to work up motivation to do things today. I’m shaving mom’s head tonight - neither of us is looking forward to it, but it’s falling out in clumps from the chemo and getting irritating, so she figured she might as well.
Swampy, I’m so glad you got yourself borned! You’re far and away my favorite bear, and I hope you feel special and beloved all day, because you are. And yum on the cheesecake. OYKW clearly knows the way to a man’s heart.
Today marks five days since I had contact with the plague-infested. My COVID test was negative. Does that mean I can rejoin society? I’m fully vaxxed and double-boosted.
In other news, I have brownish discoloration around the blood vessels in my legs. I’m not worried. I’ve known for years that lupus gave me leaky blood vessels, and I suspect that’s what this is. I don’t know what the treatment is, if any, and don’t want to consult Dr. Google, as he’s such a party-pooper. I have my annual physical in a couple weeks. Guess I’ll find out more then.
flyboy, hope you can avoid fraternizing with coworkers until the coast is clear.
FCM, that Tobias is a hoot. And a piano player, yet!
I think I’d heard something to that effect, but didn’t know vinyl was back to being sufficiently mainstream to show up at Walmart.
Got up to an email from the dealership: a necessary part has been delayed, ETA for ransoming my poor little Dart is now Tuesday. Dunno if I’m likely to do anything much that counts as productive other than calling the car rental people to extend the Jeep yet again.
After Sunday afternoon’s indoor family reunion – with unknown/varying vaccination statuses, no masks, in a “high transmission” county – I’d planned to isolate for 5 days before testing, but I wound up needing to go to a secure facility for work yesterday. There have been no reports of family infections, I have no symptoms, I tested negative yesterday morning, and I knew I’d only be in the facility for ~30 min, so I grabbed a mask and went. And, since I was out, I went to the grocery store a day early. I’ll test at least once more in the coming week (the CDC website says it can take up to 14 days to develop symptoms), but after this weekend I won’t feel guilty about leaving the house. I’m planning to attend my first in-person post-op support group meeting on Tuesday evening, and will test that afternoon. Here’s hoping I actually did dodge this particular bullet…
Yesterday was only my second time doing an at-home test, and I noticed that my 10 remaining gov’t-provided tests all expire before the end of August. So I went online to order new ones, and discovered that the FDA has extended many expiration dates! One of my kits only got three extra months, but the others got six extra months. So, heads up in case you’re like me and have mostly been hoarding your free tests.
Hmm I can enbiggen it, or make it red, but I can’t do both.

It’s 96 right now. Supposed to get to 111. (annoying person) but it’s a dry heat (/ap)
Nothing much to report from here today. Our house is being overrun by box elder bugs and what looks like small bright red spiders. Neither of them bite, apparently, but they’re annoying just the same. Mostly they appear to be getting in around the exhaust thingee for the A/C going through the window, which is now a mass of duct tape. They also come in around the old basement door, which is falling apart. A new one is on order and should be here next week or so. Including installation (I can’t do it myself. Too big and heavy.) it’ll run about $3300.00. But worth every penny.
Disclamer: we coulda gotten a cheaper one, but this is prolly our forever home now, and we’re not cheaping out on stuff.
We’ve been trying for months to get someone to come install mini-split HVAC unit in our house. Apparently there aren’t any units to be had around here.
I read with interest about the vinyl making a comeback. When we moved here we donated a couple hundred vinyl albums to the animal shelter thrift store. Oy vey!
El Jefe says I can work from home all next week. And I was so anxious to share my gruesome pics with my cow-orkers!
El Jefe tested positive Thursday evening; and, as I said, my cow-orkers were in close proximity with each other that day. If the incubation period is three to five days, then Tuesday (my normal commuting day) would be when people (if any) would start getting sick. Better safe than sorry.
*waves at the rest of you*
Been dropping in and out reading, but I have too much stuff to read lately, so if it’s not got pretty pictures and words under 2 syllables, I don’t have the brainpower. The course deadline is approachething rapidly. Less than 4 weeks now until I’m supposed to be done, then I have to move house and start the PhD course a month later…
As I said to a classmate who was also stressing earlier- if it was easy, everyone would be doing it, but most people are probably sane.
Afternoon all. Swimmin’ n Shoppin’ n Bankin’ are all done for the day, so just staying in the AC (currently 95F outside) is the plan for the rest of the day.
Nut, sounds like you’ve got more than enough to keep you busy; like Sunny says, just post when you can.
Bumba, try to stay cool and hope you can get rid of the bugs.
Oopsie, now I’m going to have to see if my free at-home tests are still within expiration dates, had four and only used one IIRC.
nellie, hope your blood vessels, and Seanette, your car, both end up with the proper attention and repair.
taters, regarding the ‘volatile’ employee, be careful, you never know these days…
OK, some TV watchin’ and then consider what to have for dinner. Still no rain to report, may have to get the sprinkler out, that normally causes rain within 24 hours when I deploy it…
So after an hour of cursing, swearing, WD-40ing, and pounding it with the FUBAR , I got the rusted on washer off the Freecycle hand truck, and got the chassis painted. So it has cost me $50 to get a $120 hand truck for carting things around. I need beer now.
Howdy Y’all! After a rainy late mornin’, we did get in quality cee-mint pond time. Much frivolity, laughter and silliness then ensued. Burgers got grilled and et along with cheesecake ‘n strawberries. We sent them home with a hunk o’ cheesecake and some strawberries just so we would not have so much of it left to eat up ourselves. We do try, often unsuccessfully, to restrain ourselves. Thanks for all the bday wishes y’all! They made a grumpy old retired drain on society smile.
MOOOOOOM that is hilarious about the Tobester. No you say? I’ll show you no! Gave me the giggles.
Flyboy glad you dodged the plague.
Die the Swiss weather sounds just like the weather in south Jawja.
Taters put it all behind you and enjoy your vacation.
Talky hope it goes well with your mom. Cancer sucks mightily!
Nellie I’d say you are plague free and may re-enter society. Feel free to venture amongst the great unwashed.
Oopsie here’s hopin’ you remain plague free. Good news on the tests.
Bumba yikes on the bug/spider infestation! Don’t blame ya about the door. It’s your home, so best not to cheap out on stuff like that.
nuts just think, one skool is almost over and soon you get to start another skool!
Take-out tonight. I ordered a Deluxe Taco Salad, 6 hot wings, and a grande Cadillac margarita from the Mexican place, and we went to the fish’n’chips trailer for The Missus. I ate all of mine (except for the tortilla bowl), and it was good. They gave me BBQ wings instead of hot wings, so that was disappointing; but I’ve been craving BBQ chicken anyway. The Spousal Unit is saving her clam chowder for tomorrow.
