So the Chiavetas chicken is a NY cousin to swampy’s Eyetalian chicken VanGo? Sounds good anyway.
Skritches to Buddy seanette. It sounds like his owie is healing a bit.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasting and the beginnings of supper in the crock (chicken tortilla soup). Other than the usual Sunday chores, it shall be a day of sloth with an 80% chance of rain.
It reached 97 here yesterday. Today’s expected high is 95.
Safe travels, FCM!
Nellie, I need to be you and get back into a gym!
I have no plans, maybe a trip to the hardware store. That’s about it though.
I’ve already started tidying the kitchen and have the sprinkler going. I cut and watered the grass yesterday, but today I’m back to my earlier watering schedule. Poor Polar was having a rough time of yesterday, so there was much ice water, rubbing down with ice packs and trying to get him into the air-conditioned room for a bit. He did come upstairs with me went I went to bed last night, so he did get to enjoy some air conditioning for a good bit. Once the husband came to bed, though, he went back downstairs. I am really looking forward to cooler temps.
I need to do laundry, but I discovered I need to get some laundry detergent too. If Amazon doesn’t have what I need, I’ll have to pick them up at the store. I’m trying to hold off on doing the laundry because using the dryer when it’s in the 90s is ridiculous.
Well, it’s time for more coffee. I managed to stay in bed until 5:30 today, so that was positively luxurious! However, it means a later start to my day and getting things done. I have to do SOMETHING today or the guilts set in. It’s like an echo of my mother nagging at me in childhood because every day included some chore.
Safe trip, Moooooom…and yay for the continued check-ins!
I started my laundry a little while ago, but otherwise my weekend-o’-sloth will continue today. I wound up reading for quite a while yesterday afternoon, which was a nice change (usually I only read in bed, before going to sleep), but that isn’t appealing to me today for some reason. Yesterday I finished book #4 in the series I’m reading – #18 will be published next month – and maybe I just need a little break before starting #5.
Sloth is not as fun as it used to be, because these days my tailbone hurts all of the time (when I’m not lying on my side or stomach). At the moment I have neither padding nor muscle back there. I got a coccyx pillow to use with my desk chair* – and will be getting a thinner one to use in the car for long drives – but nothing seems to work on the couch! I like to sit either cross-legged or kind of sideways, leaning on the right couch arm with my legs behind me to the left, and neither coccyx pillows nor gel cushions work for either position. Lying on my side is OK, but then it’s impossible to use my iPad (and I prefer to be more upright). The sitting itself isn’t uncomfortable, but the pain hits as soon as I shift/go to get up.
I know it’s a weird/minor problem, and barely worth whining about…I’m just so tired of that area always being sore. And it’s increasingly frustrating because the couch is where I like to spend most of my weekends. I also know there’s something I can/should do: one of these days I’ll start doing exercises to strengthen my glutes, which my surgeon’s office says will help. I’m just preferring to whinge at the moment.
*I need/want to get a new desk chair. I bought my current one in April 2020 when I realized that working from home was going to be a long-term thing, because my previous chair wasn’t great, but I weighed a lot more then and wanted something comfy but with a high weight tolerance so I got a “big and tall” executive chair. I’m only 5’3 so it was always a little oversized, but now it’s just plain too big. Like, uncomfortably big. Especially when I use the coccxy pillow: in order to sit in the right position, I don’t have any back support. Telework seems to be here to stay so I did some research on the best chairs for short people, and I might just pony up for a size “A” (small) Aeron. I definitely want to go try one in person first, though, which means a quick(ish) trip into DC some weekend.
I’m off to put the laundry in the dryer, and decide whether I want a turkey sandwich (on low-carb bread) or pepperoni pizza (with low-carb crust) for lunch. It’s kinda nice to have some “normal” options again!
Happy Sunday, everyone.
One of the few advantages of my laundry room being an addition – one that requires me to go outside to access it – is that running the dryer doesn’t make the house any warmer.
I slept later than planned because I was up later than expected. An old friend who lives in Hong Kong called, and we had a lot of catching up to do. The 15 hour time difference means she calls about my bedtime. I think she’ll be moving back to the US soon. She says freedom of speech is all but gone there as China takes over, and it’s pretty depressing. I guess yesterday was Old Chums Day, as I got a call from a dear friend in Oklahoma in the afternoon.
I need to walk to the store before it gets hot enough to melt the babushka cart. Sundays is my day off from working out, and I don’t like it. I mean, it’s nice to get away from the gym, but it’s not good for the restless legs (actually periodic limb movement disorder), and I don’t sleep as well on Sunday nights. But my athlete/coach friends told me if I don’t take a day off, I’m liable to get stress fractures, etc., so I grudgingly take the day off.
I’d like to be in better shape. I need to increase the strength training. And like you, I could wring out my shirt after I hop–well, crawl–off the treadmill. It’s definitely a feels-so-good-when-it-stops experience. Also, I have trouble turning down a challenge I’ve made to myself, which has gotten me in trouble a few times. OTOH, it’s also got me over my fear of heights and up mountains, so there’s that.
FCM, thanks for the updates. It sounds like an exhausting journey but a necessary one. I hope your time with the 'rents-in-law goes well.
Congrats to Gordie on winning the title of Luckiest Dog in the World. People adore him. Dogs envy him:
They’d give the world and all they own
For just one Milk Bone he has known
And now “Bernadette” is going through my head. Serves me right.
I wouldn’t be a bit surprised. He’s clearly a very clever cat.
VanGo, I had to look up the Chiavetas marinated chicken recipe. Yum!
I had to get a door stopper, as when the windows are open and I open the outside door, my bedroom door slams shut. Mine is this one, only I didn’t pay that much for it. Makes me smile when I see it.
Well, he did go outside for a while, but several hours later than he usually does, and he was home and inside around his normal time, so his roaming last night was cut in half. I really wish he’d just stay in, for his own good. Plus side: the owie is healing quite well, and he was doing some serious purring when I cleaned it this morning (he wasn’t as cooperative about Neosporin as normal, though).
We’ve been in Jawja a while, but I was driving so I couldn’t post. Traffic in SC sucked as usual with us sitting on the interstate a few times. We should hit Ocala before 7. I hope.
I’m melting, melting. That was one hot walk to and from the store. The NWS says it’s 84, but they’re either guzzling the 80-proof weather juice, or they keep their thermometers in a fridge in the shade. I have to water my balcony plants, but other than that, I’ll stay inside until I turn into a mushroom. The heat seems to make my plants lusty: the snake plant and spider plant are reproducing like crazy. I knew I shouldn’t have let them watch Debbie Does Dahlias.
Ruh-roh. I shouldn’t be talking like that on a Sunday, right?
Afternoon all. Managed to stay in bed until almost 9am, then went to Red Robin (Yum!) for early dinner and will be heading off to the gym here shortly after finishing this message (and the dishwasher finishing it’s cycle). Very cloudy but no major rainstorms, just the occasional droplets. We’ll see what tonight brings.
nellie, at our ages we can talk however we please any day of the week, far as I am concerned.
FCM, continue your safe travels.
Oopsie, come visit sometime, I have a big sectional that you can sprawl out on to read.
OK, need to finish a couple of things and then put on my shorts and t-shirt and go pedaling nowhere at the gym. All y’all take care.
76º in Birch Bay. No walking yesterday, and I think I’ll skip it today too. The MG’s out though, so I may have to drive somewhere… just not down the beach. They’re having a sandcastle contest and there’s no parking, and traffic is so slow that I can’t let the clutch out all the way.
oopsie, I had the same issues when I bought a B&T office chair for my studio. It was also too big for the space. I replaced it with a gaming chair and it works for me.
Messed around in the studio, then took Nelson outside, where he got to play with Molly and sniff butts with Jim. The chicken tortilla soup rocks. Fixing to do KP, then mess around in the studio some more before hitting the hay before dark.
Ugh! Gonna have to get the truck towed to my buddy’s mechanic shop tomorrow. It seems the pipe from the engine to the catalytic converter has rusted out. Currently on hold with AAA to try to schedule a tow in the morning.
As an added bonus, the neighbors have put up one of those inflatable pools, so there is much shrieking by little girls.
It’s now separated by about a quarter inch. Don’t think any tape is gonna fix that. Particularly with the potholes we’ve got around here bumping everything around.
Howdy all. Rain is around the area, but so far just a couple drops here at Casa Rat. Pedaled 600 calories off, but since the gym closes at 6pm on Sunday, no time to improve on it. Need to fix something edible here in a bit, but not too hungry after the Red Robin splurge.
FCM, glad you made it down there. Now get some rest while you can.
VanGo, hope buddy can fix things without to much damage to the wallet.
Catch all y’all tomorrow on the next MMP; need to do a Braunsweiger run tomorrow morning, so maybe up early.
