Goblins webcomic discussion

but it did. He now has the new IME matter instead of scar tissue is all…

That would have given him what he wanted, oblivion. Also would have created a paradox, since he never would have existed, therefore the holes couldn’t exist. This way, he lives forever knowing he was beaten and outsmarted by a bunch of inferiors.

Yeah, that’s the “psionic implant” that I theorized about above. Though it might be a graft, not an implant — one of the newer things in D&D 3.5 that was introduced about the same time I quit playing was “grafts”. There were all kinds of grafts, including psionic. That would suggest that Kin’s tail and Forgath’s beard are also grafts.

The gears replaced Forgath’s obvilioned beard, perhaps they would fix psionic minmax even if he were chucked into a hole?

Yeah, I was worried about the implications of Minmax throwing Psi-max into the winner’s circle, until I re-read the last few pages and realized what Sapphire meant when she said “I’ve also switched the maze reset from automatic to manual. This will give us more control of the place.” in panel 3 of this strip. Whew!

ETA: What I still don’t understand is what magical treasure Psi-max “selected” that got him returned to his reality, and when he did it.

:smack: Don’t know how I missed that…

He didn’t select one. [del]Stepping in[/del] Entering the red circle activates the pre-recorded announcement and sends the person home.

There isn’t a lot of room, though, to get at the wall of prizes without touching the statue. I wonder exactly how it responds to being touched.

Oh, so his motion into the red square was just a continuation of Minmax throwing him, not an automated “You selected your treasure, so now we’re pulling you into the red circle” motion?

That’s my one complaint about Goblins; I’m often confused about the specific sequences of events during the battle scenes or other action sequences. I’m not sure if it’s just his drawing style, or if it’s just that I’ve never played D&D for real, but I generally have to wait until somebody explains what’s happening in each panel before I feel I understand properly.

It’s not just you. Thunt’s drawing style does make action sequences very hard to follow. Knowledge of D&D doesn’t help, since he pays only vague attention to the rules of the game.

which leads to a page with a black/grey area where the comic is? I have noticed this, only the newest comic is available now?

I see that comic fine.

Same here, it shows up fine for me.

This may be redundant, but it’s only the adventurers who are being run by players. The goblins and other monsters are all NPCs (non-player characters) as are background humans, even important ones.

It looks like the site is having problems. With luck, it will be better later.

New one’s up, and I’m going to amend my previous theory: I do think that Minmax and Forgath are sent from the Maze of Many to the goblins via the Jade Teapot, but I think that Ruby will impersonate our Kin and be the one to use the Jade Teapot, thinking that she’s saving our Kin.

Of course, I could be wrong.

I’m thinking she’s going to use it to frame our Kin for something, and try to make Forgath and Minmax turn on her.

Yay, actual goblins are back in the comic.

It was much more insidious than that! So evil.

I wonder how long it will take for Kin to realize that Minmax was right about the True Seeing bond he shares with her. And what she’s going to do about it.

Also, what are the other three Kins going to do about the fact that only one of them will be able to return hhome with the Jade Tea Party Set?

I wonder if Minmax is going to apologise to them? He now knows that monsters have hearts too.

That’s probably less important to him right now than his belief that these particular monsters pose an existential threat to the freedom of all human adventurers in the realm.

The only way out of a deadly showdown that I can imagine is if Kin follows Minmax, recognizes the GAP, and puts in a good word for them. And even that wouldn’t give Complains of Names any incentive to call it squarsies with Minmax.

Maybe Kore’s imminent approach will precipitate a melee that’s confusing enough to permit an escape.

What race is Kore? Dwarf? I bet the racist axe gets used by Forgath.

That has potential, but Forgath wouldn’t be proficient in the axe, so a lot of that +7 would be wasted.
