I thought that the half-plant thing was just a depiction of Barkskin at first, but he forms bows, arrows, and scimitars, at least, out of his wood.
Dellyn mentions being a high level ranger, and being able to cast clerical spells. Plus, he’s been the leader of the ELITE guards of the city. I think that Brassmoon is large enough that it would have a higher level NPC as Captain of the Elite Guards. His home showed quite a few trophies, which argues for a much higher level than 4th level ranger (plus whatever other levels in other classes that he’s taken).
Do clerics have lower XP requirements for levelling up than fighters do? I know that they did in one of the systems I played with, but I can’t remember if it was in the official rules, or if it was one of the DM’s own special rules. I was going to say that it’s possible that Forgath was off doing something to earn some XP while Minmax was doing something else, and then I realized that Minmax is NOT going to let a chance to get XP pass him by. Unless, of course, he had the opportunity to throw someone through a window.
Hmmm, OK. I didn’t play much in the 3rd edition. Most of my playing experience was with a DM who had his own unique setting and rules…he based most of the setting on the original 3 rulebooks, but added stuff from the 1st and 2nd edition AD&D rules as he pleased. Yes, I said AD&D.
There’s also a discussion on the Goblins forum of just what level Dellyn is.
New strip is up and Forgath shows that he has a very smart player controlling him. Forgath was able to listen to reason during the battle with the goblins and now he’s using the Anymug in a very wise and creative way. Made of wood? Don’t mess with a certain Dwarf that has the epic patience to travel with Minmax.
Nice! Did Dellyn just go from half man/half tree to all man/half on fire?
Incidentally, Wolverine, thanks for starting this thread! I’ve seen mention of Goblins here and there in CS but never looked into it until this thread. Between this and The Order of the Stick, I’m probably more familiar with D&D than anyone else who has never actually played the game!
I wonder just how many hit points MinMax has. He was hit by Delyn at least 3 times - unless Delyn is rolling ones, he should be dead. Even with ones, the sword and strength bonuses would likely be considerable. Only good thing for MinMax is that whether you are at full HP or at 1 HP, you fight the same.
Nice. And it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Except maybe that “Paladin” that’s on the Goblins’ trail. I’ve had just about enough of Dellyn, anyway. Maybe Kin will finish him off.
*For future viewers: Greetings from the Past! This refers to the March 29 strip.
On a less contentious note, does anyine think that, his point being made, Forgath will be filling the Anymug with a healing potion for Dellyn (surely he’ll be filling it with some for Minmax)? Or is he more likely to put Kin’s collar on him and hand her the rope?
It’s already been explicitly mentioned in the strip that (at least some) female dwarves have beards. Minmax was taunting Forgath about having, in the past, slept with someone with a beard.
Got a link for that? I was wanting to re-read it myself, but didn’t want to slog through the whole archive to find it.
I seem to recall that I saw the possibility of flammable liquids at the time, too, and being surprised that Minmax didn’t (despite thinking of potions, acid, and molten lava).
If I were Kin, I’d use the distraction to get the hell out of there. Just because these 2 adventurers don’t approve of Goblinslayer’s cruelty doesn’t mean they won’t still kill her when all is said and done.
