Goblins webcomic discussion

And now that the present is opened … awwwwww.

Heh…“KEN”. That boy’s got a heart of gold. And a brain of lead.

Maybe it’s just because I’ve got a snake in a tank on one side of me and a cat with a collar on the desk on my other side, but that sure looks a lot like a setup for a pet. I have a feeling Kin’s going to violently reject the necklace, even if Minmax didn’t intend it that way.

I think the only appropriate thing to say is

Awwwwwww!

Back with the goblins! BACK WITH THE GOBLINS!!!

Owl’s Wisdom may have been a better choice of buff there…

That was … freakin’ … brilliant.

and another!

They’re coming thick and fast now!

Looks like the goblins are in big time trouble!

Man, I do not want to imagine what might happen if Kore got his hands on the axe.

He’s not technically evil is he? The demon thingy would still be trapped. Is it what he would do with it that is worrying?

Actually, I’m not sure that Kore is male.

Surely this isn’t going down as planned?

Soemthing to do with those white glowy dragonfly looking things I wager.

Those things have been appearing in the comic now and then since the beginning, and have always just seemed to be nothing more than common bugs/animals/whatever they are (they’re not anything I recall seeing in any of my many D&D 3.5e books, the game version the comic is based on). Thunt sometimes uses them for transitions between scenes, like showing one scene, and then showing one of those things flying away and happening to travel to wherever the next scene is taking place.

Maybe they’re cameramen.

Kore? Evil as fuck.

The big mystery is why his (her) evil has not resulted in his (her) awesome Paladin powers going away.

I’ve always hated the necessity that a Paladin be Lawful Good. A Paladin is a champion of his or her god, which means fighting for their god’s interests. A Chaotic Neutral Paladin for a god of war should be just as feasible as a Lawful Good Paladin for a god of justice. I really prefer the variant of D&D 3.5 that allows for CG, CE, and LE paladins in addition to LG, although I don’t think it goes far enough.

Given that Thunt is twisting the traditional D&D perspectives in Goblins, I really wouldn’t be surprised if Kore was working for an LE god, perhaps being deceived by same into believing he’s doing Good work.

That’s why I was assuming they weren’t technically evil. I’m sure we will get this explained at some point

I’m all for having divine champions of all alignments, but I don’t like them all being paladins. I’d rather see completely different powers and abilities for champions of different causes. Most Chaotic Neutral champions, for instance, should probably be roguelike, not fighter-like. A CN champion of war, of course, would still be fighter-like, but would probably be even more like a barbarian than like a fighter.

For the current strip, I see three outcomes:
1: Chief slows down Kore enough for the others to escape, and dies heroically in the process.
2: Chief fights Kore, and through the miracle of Santa Clause DMing, manages to actually defeat him.
3: Chief doesn’t even attempt to fight Kore, but instead convinces him to go after the greatest evil in the world first (possibly assisted by use of Detect Alignment-type spells).

Of these three, I think the first is by far the most likely, since the strip needs villains, and two of the three main villains are already defeated.

When did Kore actually demonstrate any paladin powers? Sure he calls himself a paladin…

4th Edition allows for paladins of any alignment - though I think they need to be the same alignment as the deity they serve.

I haven’t seen him demonstrate any. Even his “Detect Evil” seems to be more “Is it a ‘monster’? EVIL!” All his “powers” seem to be just fancy gadgets.
