well since i am unspoiled i could probably give this a go.
Howdy folks.
I’m curious, how many of you playing along here thought I was Scum? I know I have a tendency to talk too much and get myself in trouble (my wife has been telling me this for 20 years now), but I’m not sure whether Normal Phase was putting together a ‘solid case’ that just happened to be wrong, or if he’s really just making stuff up out of nothing. I’d be interested to get an outsider’s opinion.
I’m not spoiled yet, so I’ll take a stab at this one…though I suspect you’ll find my answer less than satisfying…
I’m really pretty much stumped. It seems to me that everyone in the game is sort of grasping at straws right now. I made a couple very circumstantial cases in the game thread, but I have no strong opinions on anyone right now. I do have a ‘bad feeling’ about special ed, but there’s nothing I can really put my finger on right now.
I saw the case on you, and might even have voted for you, but yeah, it wasn’t all that strong a case, it’s just that there isn’t all that much else anyone has going for them. If I didn’t vote for you, it’d probably be Mrs. McGinty, mostly for the whole “why is everyone picking on me” meltdown.
If I were actually in the game, I’d probably also be running my vote analysis (which might or might not give usable results-- This has been sort of a weird game), but with nobody keeping detailed vote records, that’s too much work (it being too much work is pretty much the reason I’m not playing in this one). Plus, at this point, it’d really depend on how many total Scum there are: If we started with 6, then I’d expect it to give really good results (at least, until the next Scum were found), but if we started with 4 (and have only one left), it probably wouldn’t yield anything at all. And in any event, it wouldn’t say anything about who the third parties are, which is probably more important right now anyway. At the very least, though, it would probably suggest some new places to look.
I think Mahaloth is probably scum. The “I don’t find anyone scummy” thing he said* is a classic scum mistake, and is the mistake I made as scum in one of these games.
I think Mrs. McGinty is probably a 3rd party. His freak-out was way weird.
I think Hal Briston could also be scum keeping a low profile.
Now, keep in mind I’ve only ever played this game once, so I totally don’t know what I’m talking about.
*Paraphrasing, I can’t find the exact post.
I can understand that; I might have voted for me too, if I had been someone else. Like I said, I don’t think anyone has a strong case against anyone else right now. I hope that the Night actions help to clarify something.
I think it was just a real case of “nobody else better to vote for.” I was unconvinced by your case (but of course, I knew you were town). I’d like to think a townie Astral would have also been unconvinced.
Hi there. Been a long time since I’ve seen you round Mafia parts. How are things? Fancy playing again?
I’m spoiled so I’d better not comment on your theories.
Come to think of it, if he’s still alive after another Night or two, he might be a good vote target. That laying-low style is a good target for Vigs, and we appear to have multiple bonus-killers this game (either vigs, or serial killers that might want to try for a false claim of vig). The longer he goes unkilled, the more likely that it’s because he’s one of the killers.
And Mahaloth doesn’t really smell all that great to me, either. If I had the role he was claiming, I would immediately ask for the number of Scum (especially given that there was a strong case in the works that depended on that number). The only reason to wait to ask is to weigh the value of asking for Scum or 3rd parties, but it doesn’t really seem like he put in that much consideration in his decision (just “I was more curious about third parties”). On the other hand, the reason for waiting could very well be that it’s a cover role, and he only decided to run with it after he started drawing suspicion.
I’d love to, but it’ll have to be after November is over. I’m going to try to do NaNoWriMo again. (Last time, two years ago, I barely got through 3000 words I’m hoping to do better this year.)
I’m not sure I would have voted for you. I thought Mahaloth looked scummier. And also, I believe you were the one who really pushed Peeker and made a decent case against him, and I just can’t see fellow scum doing that. But then, in this game, defending someone is dangerous too, because it casts suspicion on oneself.
Good luck.
My fiancee has succeeded a couple of times, but doesn’t plan on it this year. I know how much effort she puts into it though.
Once you’re done, watch for signups here, Idle’s proboards site or Giraffe’s (if you have an account there) for games taking signups or needing subs.
It’s sadly true. I wish the culture were slightly different, because I’d love to see others defend against silly claims. I thought it was ridiculous that SP got lynched in LOTR for joking about “23 people trying to kill him.” But what’s even more ridiculous is that nobody could mount a “really? we’re lynching him for a silly joke?” defense without also being seen as scummy. In my case, I was also scum, so I didn’t want to do anything seen as defending him, but I’m really surprised that no other townies felt the need to speak up either.
Well, part of the problem is that on Day One, people don’t have much else to go on either. A while back I did defend a player (who turned out to be town) for really bad reasoning in his lynch. They lynched him anyway. “We don’t have anyone else” played a big part in that as well. Then they lynched me the next day for being right about him. That is the only time I have ever been lynched.
Well, at least people learned their lesson about lynching me. But one consequence is people think that they are at risk if they defend someone else.
Town also don’t defend other players because they are afraid they might be wrong.
Gah.
I had just finished doing a re-read and was planing to start building a case against Ed, doubly useless now.
This was a fun one.
The SK is on a roll in this one. He must be getting close to victory, and I kind of hope he gets it.
not having a case against me seems to be a Scum tell for me :smack:
You know what it was that got me when I went back and did a full real re read? It was the gentle needling that I called you out on earlier in the game. I don’t know if you were doing it on purpose or not, but taking the game as a whole it sticks out that you looked like you were primarily interested in stirring up trouble, and not really that interested in scum hunting.
Not a great tell for everyone, but for you it’s odd.
Also, (still not spoiled yet) toDay would be a great Day to have a slew of town claims. Masons and cops of any flavor should all start claiming right now.
I was suspicious of you, but for no reason that I could even begin to articulate. It was more of a ‘gut feeling’ thing, because you just didn’t seem to be acting like yourself.
Just like I could imagine getting myself killed in the next game solely because I manage to make it 3 days in without drawing a crapload of suspicion on myself
If it makes you feel any better SP, the case against you sucked. I didn’t quite know how to fight against it on your behalf and I sort of thought it might be a good idea to let it happen without fighting it so I could examine the wagon after and I didn’t have a solid case ready to go in it’s place, but it was a crap wagon.
