I got this idea from the thread about goodlooking people you don’t like the looks of
What I was looking for are people (men/women) who are really good looking but no one notices because they are often paired up with someone better looking or at least somone who distracts so much attention they don’t get noticed.
To me the biggest example of this was on WKRP in Cincinnati. Jan Smithers who played Bailey Quarters on the show was a very striking woman, but she was always so overshadowed by Loni Anderson she never gets noticed.
What others do you think suffer from this problem?
Jan Smithers’ beauty was no secret to those of us who watched the show!
An example in a similar vein was Dawn Wells on Gilligan’s Island. She was good looking enough to win Miss Nevada and compete in the Miss America pageant, and inspired the eternal “Mary Ann vs. Ginger” debate with Tina Louise.
But I think the classic example is Kate Jackson in Charlie’s Angels. How would you feel if you looked this goodand were still considered to be “the smart one”?
I agree with you there, but I recall from Jacklyn Smith’s bio that a minor issue on the show was Jackson’s absolute refusal to play off her looks. Smith says if a part required Jackson to be in a swimsuit or something along that lines, she’d say “no, give it to Farah” (or later Cheryl Ladd)
You know I think I was having a gay moment the other day watching an old episode of “Smallvile”.
I suddenly got the impression that Lex’s dad (back when he had the long hair)
is a very handsome fellow. Not a lot of guys with long hair and beards can pull that off.
I wonder if women or gay dopers find him attractive as well?
Also, Tara King on The Avengers. By all objective standards, she’s actually prettier than Diana Rigg (Their tenures actually overlapped for a few episodes), but lacked her crucial “M. Appeal.”
