GOOGLE Street View -- point and laugh thread

So as not to rain on What does the Google street view of your home show? and to permit your privacy to remain intact, how about linking to some Google Street View locales in your area that you’re glad didn’t take place at your residence.

Just for laughs, of course.

I have learned to enjoy “trips” I can take with GSV in my area, and have logged quite a few miles seeing the surrounding countryside. Now and then I’ll run across something bizarre that the cruiser happened to pick up and I’ll be tempted to post it somewhere. Usually I resort to email with trusted friends whose senses of humor and delight parallel mine.

Maybe we can get something like that going here?

Start us off, to give us a better idea of what you have in mind!

Not quite PALATSV, but here’s me pulling into a parking lot. I passed the Street View car about two miles back (you can follow me all the way from the free way exit) and about halfway between where I saw it and this lot I decided I could time it so it would pass me as I pulled in so I drove veeeerrrrryyyy sloooooowwwwwllllyyyy. I’m practically pulled over for a while. HA, I apparently did pull over, here I am on the, side of the road (third car up with my brake lights on), but I knew there was no one behind me but him.

I had a few extra minutes and I wanted to be able to show it to people until it was taken down a few years later.

ETA, now they stay up, if you look in the upper left hand corner you can scroll through the previous pictures as well.

Excellent work, Joey P, and you saved me the effort of getting far enough away from my own place that the URL wouldn’t reveal anything specific about where I am.

Thanks!

Not a personal POV, but the Blues Brothers bridge jump on Google Earth is a wonderful thing

In addition to Joey P’s approach you might start at someplace like
Dolly Parton's House in Brentwood, TN - Virtual Globetrotting and wander around until something unusual/funny/strange pops up…

A note of caution: be sure to preview what you’re posting to be sure no revealing privacy concerns are there to be noted by would-be bad guys…

You might even go to places like Street View Images of People - Maps & Photos from Google - Virtual Globetrotting for inspiration…

I’d link to the Ugliest House in Arlington County but the house must have either been torn down or heavliy remodled by the time Google rolled through. Imagine “Edith” as a post-war bungalow with some old guy sitting in a wicker chair on the roofless front porch.

Well, there’s always this.

Ideal! I could swear I have run across some of those very shots in Street View before!

The captions are priceless.

::Scratches Head:: I don’t think I like that 3D modeling thing since it takes away from the whole idea of everything being pictures. I like being able to look at a Street View and then know exactly what I’m going to see. Either way, the Blues Brothers didn’t jump a bridge in New Jersey, so I’m not exactly sure what the point of that is.

Not quite street view, but Google maps - it captured my brother’s funeral.

I remember a few years ago there was a thread about Google Street View capturing a van on fire in someone’s driveway.

The infamous man pooping was about a mile from my house. If you google 519 H St, NE, Washington DC, the image still appears, but they blurred out some of the detail.

Google Street View doesn’t show my home, as I live at the end of a row of townhouses that’s on the other end of the common access road from where it connects to the street.

There may be more than one such photos, but there’s one among the collection at The 57 Strangest Things Ever Spotted On Google Street View

Here’s the van on fire in the driveway and the mentioned Toronto Star article.

I guess this isn’t exactly “point and laugh”, but I just found this dead dog on street view the other day. WARNING! Do not click if you don’t want to see a dead dog!

I was checking out a local street, once, when the line of travel pulled into a gas station, then back out before continuing. Aw. I went to check on it, and they’ve removed the line of travel on that side of the street.
