Inserting quote marks or bolding doesn’t.
I can highlight a sentence, click the quote or bold/insert/underline and it doesn’t insert the [q…uote][/q…uote] symbols (periods inserted so they don’t get translated).

When is the forum display going to be fixed? Or is this it?
I’ve started having problems with the Thread Tools link.
And the search. And the log-out.
If this has been mentioned already then my apologies and just consider this a “me too.”
We used to have a feature here that would search and list all the instances when someone quoted you. This was an exceptionally nice way to quickly see where you needed to respond to a question, continue a conversation or just be aware of a comment. I’d found that to be one of the more useful utilities on the board and would love to see it return.
Thanks,

I have some troubleshooting data for anyone trying to leave a visitor message and the system not working and for **Jerry **to troubleshoot the minor issue.
I have not been able to post a visitor message so far using IE7 in XP SP2 or SP3 or IE7 in Vista.
I was able to post a using visitor message Google Chrome in Vista.
Good grief, then why have the “view unread posts feature at all?” Unless the PTB are recommending that we do the “open multiple threads simultaneously in tabs” thing.
Meh. Something else to make the boards more difficult to use. You do want casual visitors to make a habit of coming here, don’t you?
I’ve discovered a convoluted method for doing a search. It’s a pain, but it seems to work.
I cannot use the drop-down Search field at all. However, upon logging in, I can go to Advanced Search and use it one time and one time only. If I want to do another Search – after waiting the requisite time, of course – I must log out and then log back in. I can then do one more search in Advanced Search, but ONLY one, until I log back out and then log back in again, etc.
Search isn’t working for me, and I am not getting email notifications for any new (i.e. post-upgrade) subscribed threads.
Try **right clicking **on the Search link and choosing **open in new window **or open in new tab. I found this is working well.
You can also add a shortcut to the search function. http:/ /209.104.5.198/sdmb/search.php?
(Remove space between the two slashes when making the shortcut)
This is what IE says when you load a Straight Dope forum.
vBulliten is null or not an object
What version of IE and what Op system. I know it has been working for posters in IE6 & 7 for Win XP sp2 & 3 and at least some versions of Vista with IE7.
Any chance you have IE5 or an older Op System or a 64 bit Op system?
I am operating Windows XP SP2 with IE7. I was running IE6 and updated to 7 along with updates to JavaScript to see if that solved the problem. It did not. My biggest complaint is not being able to access Thread Tools, it’s strange but it will work for threads that only have one page, if more than one page thread tools will not work.
From what I understand from researching this there seems to be a problem with Java Script and many on the entire Web are experiencing these problems on vbulletin message boards and some websites and none seems able to exactly know what is causing these errors or how unfortunately to fix them.
So far it appears the current version of the Dope is working better with Firefox and Google Chrome. I use mainly IE7 and just loaded Google Chrome yesterday. Chrome lets some tool work that did not in IE6 & 7.
However the Dope loads in both IEs I use with no problem. I don’t understand why you are getting the message you did. Is it every time or sometimes?
Where is the strike-through text function?
There was never a button for it, but the [ DEL ] [ /DEL ] tags are what does it on the dope. [DEL]strike through [/DEL]
Every time. When I load SDMB I get an IE error message.
Done, but with errors on page. This is on the bottom tool bar, when viewing the details, I get this:
Line 12
Char 22551
Error vBulliten is null or not an object
Code 0
:smack:
OK, now I understand. I am getting the same or similar error every time. It means some of the Java or PHP tools are not loading. I think one of the culprits is the color pull down and most are up on the Blue option bar that lists User CP through Log Out.
Your last remarks are like Greek to me, my computer knowledge is limited. I wish these errors were in plain English so you could know what the problem is and how to fix it.
The menus at the top of the page that don’t work: Search, Quick Links, Thread Tools, Search this Thread, Display Modes; they are malfunctioning and causing this error message.
