Well, open up Cafe Society, and I guarantee you’ll see a ton of threads devoted to products you have no intention of paying for either…
Your problem has been solved. Check the front pageand look at the forum that has been moved down to a subforum called Side Conversations. You can even hide the entire Side Conversations by clicking the double up arrow in the circle in the square in the left hand corner.
I have just discovered that right clicking on a persons user name then clicking open gets to their profile.
Gack. don’t know how i missed this post.
Three ongoing issues:
(1) The basic search thread still isn’t working. It gives an error message about security. I have to use the advanced search function.
(2) Logging off gives an error and sends me off to another screen.
(3) The function allowing insertion of a hyperlink has changed. It no longer allows you to type in specific text for the link.
A quick question about forum mechanics…
I used to be an admin for another vBulletin message board, and we have ours set up in such a way that the “threads with new posts” status didn’t expire for a week. You can read up on a thread for as long as you need, go back to the subforum page and still be able to click on “view new posts” for another thread. Almost all other vBull fora I frequent have cookies set up this way.
Historically, here at the Dope, “threads w. new posts” expired in less than an hour. I always found this really frustrating, and it was a (minor) contributing factor for me to stop participating for a long while.
Please. I beg of you, please enable this here at the Dope. If nothing else, it would remove the need for people to load X number of threads at once in separate tabs/windows/whatever, and that would lighten the load on the server, yes?
I feel as though I have a major problem!
If I start my own thread, post it, and then look back at the list of threads I can’t see it. However, I know other people can see it because I’m getting the email notifications of replies. And then If i contribute to someone else’s thread, once I have posted and have gone back to the forum that thread then disappears too.
Also, I can’t search.
Oppsy. My dad showed me how to fix this, but I still don’t really understand why it happened or how it was fixed.
It was set on something like 15 minutes. I’d be happy with it being set to an hour. It’s currently set to zero.
Please fix this! Amongst the thousands of other things that haven’t been addressed at all.
I don’t know if this is a browser issue or a Board issue.
I find that the links are changing colour erratically. My browser (Safari on a Mac) normally shows a link that’s not been opened as blue, and a link that has been opened as grey.
Since the upgrade, some thread titles that I’ve opened are showing grey, like they should. Others that I’ve opened are still blue. And other threads that I’ve not opened are showing grey.
I posted a question about this in GQ, but since it may be a Board issue, I’ll post here as well. Sorry for the cross-post.
I think the link wonkiness is a board thing. I wonder if it’s related to the workaround Jerry has in place to make it possible to post regularly. (Although I think I noticed a difference in how links behave before he implemented the hack.) It does seem like there’s more to it than what’s been discussed in the thread about links here in ATMB.
I’ve seen both: 1) links staying blue even though I’d posted to the thread, left the forum, and come back to the thread (repeat this sequence several times). It’s only happened a couple of times, though. 2) Links being greyed out very quickly. Usually I can post to a thread, go back to the forum and still find quite a few blue links. For the last several days, I’ll come into MPSIMS, read the MMP and post to it, go back into MPSIMS and find that all links are now grey.
I’m using Firefox 3.0.1 for Mac PPC, if that makes a difference.
Is anyone else missing the colors tool in the editor? (The Pull down with the Aq )
The color codes still work but the tool displays nothing.
Is anyone able to make a compound search?
An example is any “Two Words” in quotes. I get an error message.
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 71 bytes) in **/home/straightdope/boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/search.php **on line 1008
I don’t know if this has been complained about yet, and I’m not about to wade through more pages to find out, but the thread tools link doesn’t work on some threads but does on others.
I have the same problem, for me any thread with mutiple pages means the thread tools will not work.
Following up on my Search inability:
I was able to do a Search twice this session, then it stopped working. But I noticed it stopped when down in the corner, instead of showing “Done” for the page being loaded, it shows “Error on page.” Does that mean anything?
Hi. My name is Rhythmdvl, and I … and I have a SDMB problem.
It all started back in the eighties, when my father (innocently enough) brought home these yellow books filled with questions and answers. He didn’t know. In the late nineties, I moved on to the Internet, lurking … lurking … reading… until I found myself with a question of my own. That was back in 1999. Almost ten years.
I look back on those early days with wonderment. I could go a day, day and a half without hitting the forum monkey, without huffing the hamster so to speak. Now, I find myself crawling through the boards two, three, four times a day, checking every forum for signs of new posts. Every forum. Every day.
I am Rhythmdvl. I have a SDMB problem.
::all together::
Hi, Rhythmdvl!
Rhythmdvl, you are so not alone. Thankfully, there’s a place we can congregate…wait a minute. That’s not helping!
If I save my search preferences, it opens a search page with the word, “Array” in both the user name field and the key word field.
Well I just changed my screen name and lost my chartered member status.
