Got a SDMB problem? List it here.

A Search function that actually works instead of just refreshing the page would be even better! All I’m getting now is a timer reset.

Threads I have not clicked on are acting like I did. Very weird in that it is not all of them just certain ones darkening.

I had to hack the forum display function last night in order that we don’t have these continual periods of being available and then available. The code I hacked decides how many threads to retrieve in the time period you’ve specified (now it always defaults to a maximum of 200 posts and no more) AND it determines how many of those threads should be marked as new since your last read. The reason the threads are acting weird is because of this.

I made a decision that we would sacrifice some board functionality in order to achieve board stability. This is a temporary hack and will be removed when I can get a more permanent fix in place but that will be a while. I know this is screwing people up by giving back false information (whether or not the thread is new from your last visit) but better that then the message board being unavailable 15 times a day.

I may be able to put a more elegant hack in place which returns some of the functionality we’re now bypassing. Right now though I’m going to leave what we have in place as we move into the busy part of the posting day.

Jerry

Thanks for the explanation. And keep up the good work!

This is because of the Lost Weekend. Due to the rollback threads created now have the same id numbers as threads created during the weekend, so they have the same URL, and thus, as far as your browser is concerned, they’re the same page.

I should read more closely. I didn’t notice that people were saying thread LINKS they hadn’t clicked on where showing up as already clicked. I assumed what was being reported was a byproduct of a code hack I made last night. It’s not.

Good catch.

I posted this earlier or in another thread, but haven’t seen it addressed.
There used to be a function that allowed us to surf the board invisibly. The little green dot next to your name showed up as gray, rather than green to other users. I can’t seem to find the option in my User CP. Will this feature be turned back on?

The hyperlink button doesn’t seem to be working for me. It skips right over the “enter text” part and goes right to the “enter url” part.

Also, I didn’t know I had a Friend request (hi, Bibliocat!) until I clicked on user CP. Can we not get an e-mail notification or a PM that someone wants to Friend us? I don’t want to be thought of as rude.

I didn’t know about the whole ‘Friending’ thing tillI got an email notification that another poster had Friended me. I don’t know why you didn’t get one.

I know I turned off my “receive an email” function because NOW it causes your email to be visible in your profile to anyone who looks. I didn’t want that info revealed.

I stopped receiving “friending alerts” after I did that.

I wish there was a way to receive emails, without my address being visible.

This was answered upthread by elmwood. It’s actually a deliberate change in the way that feature works.

My “Receive Friendship Request E-mail” option is checked.

I can see no links to a PM inbox, nor any options regarding private messages in my user control panel, nor anything else regarding PMs in the board interface. I might be missing something obvious, but I’m guessing PMs are still disabled for non-subscribers.

I’m also getting very thin reply boxes, using Opera 9.21.

Got the e-mail this time. Looks like it’s OK now :).

I tried to do a search and got this message:

"Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing.

If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error."

When I post a reply, none of the buttons above the edit window work. The icons are there on a white background, but trying to click on them does nothing; they’re just static icons. Same thing with the smilies arrayed on the right.

I’m experiencing the same – links to threads I never visited appear grey in colour, indicating that I’ve clicked them.

ETA: Nevermind, has been addressed.

No can search.

I was about to post ‘same here’ (using Firefox 3.0.1) but then tried through IE7 and the buttons work fine. So must be something with my Firefox setup… hmm.

All the buttons are now working for me in both FF (3.0.1) and Chrome. They weren’t working in FF last night (which was only about 10 hours ago for me) – I think Jerry has been working on these templates.

I refuse to check what it looks line in IE.

Now just to get the colors template back! Although coding them manually works. I think. Yes.
