Saw it through the ticker on the Fox News Channel.
He really has a shot with the Republicans taking helm right now and the fact that Gray Davis’ time in the Gubernatorial office can be summed up as loathsome.
Looks like he will give Gray Davis a total recall in the elections.
Obviously not - I’m pretty sure Arnold has obtained U.S. citizenship, and unless I’m mistaken, that’s all it takes. I’m too weary to search for the facts, but given the buzz about the possibility of him running, I believe that issue would have surfaced by now. There may be other rules related to age as those placed on the Presidency, but then again, perhaps not.
If he’s elected, I can’t wait to hear him give a press conference with that accent, though!
I think the whoel recall concept in this case is absurd and wrong and stupid and idiotic and…(I’ll think of more later).
However, if it has to happen then why not Arnie? He made a good point that he is rich enough on his own to be essentially immune from being bought off by special interest groups.
I haven’t reviewed the whole list of candidates (aren’t there enought that someone could become governor with 10% of the vote now?) but Arnie being on the list doesn’t bother me. I guess time will tell what his policies are.
For anyone who’s curious, here (warning: pdf) is a list of all the people who intend on being on the ballot. It is obviously not a final list, but long and disturbing nonetheless, even if only half stay on.
The only qualification to be governor of California is to be a registered voter in the state.
Hence, anyone 18 or over who fills out a form to register to vote can get on a ballot if she or he gets the requisite signature and pays the filing fee.
I think it’s really sad. California has become a national joke, with the list of candidates almost as long as the audition roster for “Last Comic Standing.” I wouldn’t be surprised if Dat Fan were a better candidate than most who will ultimately be on the ballot. Seems to be a thoughtful young man (though not as funny as the show’s voting made him IMO).
Dianne Feinstein says she’s not running, but I noticed a Dan Feinstein of San Francisco on the list. Is he the sentaor’s son?
Larry Flynt is one of the few so far who’s paid his filing fee. Is it possible that only a pornographer is serious enough about his bid to pay up in advance?
And with the bubble-boobed bimbo of billboard fame in the race, does anyone think it’s time to tighten up the requirements just a tad? (I didn’t write her name because I don’t remember it. I don’t remember her face either.)
If the Pubbies could just wait till Davis’ term expires they could run anyone they want. This recall is an outrage against the voters of California, who RE-elected Davis in the last legitimate election. It’s clearly (to me) just another attempt to steal an office they couldn’t get legitimately (sort of like a certain federal office I shall refrain from naming). ::ducks and runs…but trips over the threshold of the Pit…probably::
While I understand a lot of the concerns about AS running for governer, I figure go for it.
The guy’s an american, he’s got opinions, and, despite what people popularly think about him and his movies, he’s a remarkably intelligent person. I think there’s a good chance he could be elected, simply because so many people want to make a joke out of him.
If this recall election is going to be serious, and it should be, since someone’s going to be the governer of California afterwards, people are going to have to start debating his ideas, rather than him. Otherwise, he’ll sail right through to the office.
And we will all be able to say that we’ve seen the Gov’s ass (at least those of us who’ve seen the Terminator films). Pictures are also available of him showing full frontal nudity (Arnold ain’t packing much).
