Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Yer very welcome, samarm.

I found a helicopter, and I own the building it’s parked on. Yay! It’s the Hyman Condo, near the stadium. It comes with three huge garages. Plenty of room to park the FBI Washington I found in a random alleyway.

My sister is getting a PS2 for her b-day I might just have to go get the game. Couple questions though.

1.How big is it?
2.How are there many ‘new’ police units?
3. Any new weapons?
/Slight highjack
In GTA3 the computer edition how do you do drive by shootings?

caffeine’s post has made me think: Rockstar games should swing by and check out this thread. Maybe they could buy the hampsters a couple of wheel upgrades, in return for us doing such a great job advertising their game!

It took around 5-6 secs for the first on to show up, my record is 11 secs, but i don’t try it much. The beach on the 600 bike is easiest for me (pull back, hit gas to keep going forward when you start heading back down. open spaces on the beach help since i tend to swerve right when i do it)

i got my one and only stoppie while jacking a car (actually, i think it was when i flipped off a bike, died, then reformed at the hospital, then immediatly jacked a car, and at that time the stoppie notification showed up. I think. Or else i did something really weird)

Dunno, but i’m only 24% done (just getting ready to off Diaz, but i have to study tonight after 24, so won’t get to it until after class tomorrow)

Trying to get motorcycle time above vehicle time, but keep losing it as i try to get the 100 cab dropoffs and level 12 fire. will try that airport trick soon, sounds cool, ElwoodCurse

Actually, Rockstar has said that they got a lot of the ideas for Vice City from reading message boards. GTAForums.com is the biggest.

  1. Huge. I’ve heard it’s three times the size of GTA3, which doesn’t seem unreasonable. It’s based around two large islands connected by several bridges (no subway this time), with three smaller islands inbetween (a very rich mansion-filled island, a golf course island and a deserted movie lot/abandoned mansion island).

  2. I think so; well, the helicopters can now disgorge abseiling SWAT teams. Get your wanted rating up high enough and you get chased by cops in Miami Vice-style sports cars too (unless that was the FBI; I didn’t hang around to find out).

  3. Lots. There are three sets of weapons, each containing a melee weapon, and explosive device, a pistol, a shotgun, an SMG, an assault rifle, an area weapon (RPG, minigun or flamethrower) and a sniping weapon. You can only carry one weapon in each category.

Other little things that are gun: flying helicopters, driving motorbikes and getting changes of clothes from the shopping malls.

WOW.
This game makes me feel like going to buy a PS2.

Meh, not enough left over cash when I buy them though…

[qoute]In GTA3, i had to wait until i had a tank to beat the burro’s race mission, by running over the opponents,
[/quote]

LOL, When I did that the race ended. It told me I needed to have participants to qualify.

I hated that race. Won it fairly, but it took me forever.

I’m currently working on finding all of the hidden packages in GTA:VC. If you get 100 the helicopter gunship becomes available - watch me go! Only another 40 packages to find…

I’ve only found 3 or 4 packages so far. Finding all 100 is a big challange!

Don’t know about you guys but I’ve deliberately avoided spoiling the game by looking up cheats. I’ve looked up a few things like good places to buy and hints on missions, but I’m not going to use any of the cheat codes just yet. Its much more fun figuring things out for yourself.

Did 15 taxi pickups in a row yesterday, this is a good wa2y of earning cash as you get a big bonus after each 5 pickup.

One thing that I can see on the map but can’t find is the dirtbike track on the beach. It’s supposed to be right at the north end of Washington beach but I just can’t see it. Any tips on this please?

I swear that 2 wasn’t there when I wrote that. Its this crappy work keyboard work, it just adds in random characters sometimes!

I’ve got 33 packages, though I haven’t been going out of my way to find them.

The racetrack on the beach is best accessed via the beach itself. It doesn’t show on the in-game map. I found it by driving on the sand. Get on the beach and head north. You’ll eventually see a bunch of billboards and some weird pointy rock things. The track’s right around them.

15 taxi dropoffs is good, but you have to beat my record of 27 before you get any respect from me.

I’ve started collecting cars for Sunshine Autos. According to gamefaqs.com, there are four lists of about seven cars each. I’m on list three, the cool sports cars. I’ll earn $9000/day if I finish the lists. (Other than looking that up, I’ve avoided cheats and hints, too.)

I am cheating. Happily - I’m a terrible driver. I’m not spawning Rhino tanks or anything like that, but I have got a list of all package locations which I’m working slowly through.

Is anyone actually good at driving the motorcycles? How can you take turns at high speed? I’ve tried everything.

The PCJ Playground mission is impossible for me, and I can’t get to the spotlight to advertise my porno movie either. A spot of luck got me through the bike race for Mitch, when the other bikes crashed and got stuck trying to turn around.

Hand breaks are the way to go in motorcycles, i love driving them. Almost surpased my distance driven in cars with distance on bikes, then entered in the hot ring game again. Found out there is a Seagulls Sniped listed in the stats list, i don’t remember shooting a seagull, but apparently i did. 64 packages, and only 30% complete! PCJ playground is terrible (keep in mind i could never do those SUV missions from GTA3) i will alway make one stupid mistake and go careening off rooftops then can’t get back up. I’m just avoiding doing it right now.

Anyone know where any aircraft are to pilot/ride in? Not R/C ones, but ones you can get into.

Buy the Hyman Condo. It’s in front of the stadium. In addition to a couple of big garages and an excellent sniping point, you get a helipad and helicopter.

Also, if you find the police station in Downtown, there is a staircase you can take to the top of the building, where you can steal the police helicopter. The good thing about this one is that you don’t have to buy anything to access it.

Once airborne, you can find the news station’s helicopter on the top of a building, also in Downtown.

Awsome! I’ll try it tonight. Thanks!

On helicopters, I also got one when I took over Diaz’s mansion. I don’t think it was there the first time I went up on the roof, but later I was flying the one from the condo over and there was a second one on the mansion helipad. Since then it is sometimes there and sometimes not. I haven’t figured out what the pattern is for its appearance, if there is one.

3. Any new weapons?
QUOTE]

In addition to the weaponsCrusoe mentioned, there are also remote-controlled planes used to drop bombs on boats and cars. So far they’ve only been available on one mission, but they were a lot of fun to use, if a little frustrating.

Found some grenades yesterday! Go to the first of the big buildings with the drive up ramp at the front, about half way up washington beach. Walk around the left of the building and the grenades are at the back.

OK, couple of questions for AudreyK et al:

  1. How do you do a drive by in a car? I did it on a bike when I had to stop the French guy escaping, but when I’m in a car I press O and nothing happens. I have the Mach 10 SMG.

  2. Any tips on completing those ramages where you have to kill 20 gang members? I’ve tried running over as many as I can in my car, but I always seem to fail the rampage!
