Greatly relieved that the pube-shaving trend is abating

I’ve never heard of anyone shaving their eyelashes either. If you have, that’s seriously weird. (And scary!)
[/QUOTE]

I actually have, but that’s not really what I meant. I was saying that shaving pubes is as aesthetically unfortunate (in my aesthetic opinion) as shaving off one’s eyebrows and eyelashes (…would be).

That it (the shaving of eyebrows and eyelashes) is not generally something you run into is kind of beside the point.

She specifically mentioned waxing, IME that’s a lot less bothersome than shaving when it comes to regrowth (weakens the hair so you get less of it starting the first time, less likelihood of ingrown hairs, and since you need to do it a lot less often, that one day of itchiness takes place a lot less often).

Female, and every time this gets mentioned I am taken back to Art Class and the teacher explaining that Goya’s Maja Desnuda was the first painting to show pubic hair… it was considered so pornographic that it would not be shown. After all, presence of pubic hair was one of the signs that someone was old enough for sex.

My wife is an Ob/Gyn. I just asked her if she had noticed any change in her patient population. She said she hadn’t. The great majority of her patients are still shaving. But maybe the new trend just hasn’t hit mid Missouri yet.

(Y’know, exactly why the heck should the poster have to give their demographics?)

Whatever someone does with their hair anywhere is very much their business. It’s not like I may get a Draft Notice to have to compulsorily deal with someone else’s hair for 2 years or the duration of the war – or the converse.

Being of a slightly older generation where body hair is the norm, even more so on males, I will however willingly keep things neat just for the sake of comfort (both mine and of whoever I’m with) and the aesthetic pleasing of the other party. But IMO the matter of pubic shaving should be * de gustibus non disputandum* – no arguing over taste. I would never impugn the motives for someone preferring the clean-waxed look. I happen to react well to a range of looks: medium trim, tight trim, topiary/shaped, minimalist, clean off, it’s all good as long as I don’t need machetes to reach the destination, but so what if others have a more narrowly focused preference? Neither would I impugn the motives of the person who adopts or does not adopt a particular pubic style for him/her self. Might snicker, depending on the selection, as I would for unfortunate dye jobs or haircuts, but that would be about it. As long as nobody shoves their tastes down my throat, I already don’t shove mine down theirs. You like it natural? Good. You like it shaved? Cool. What you like is not what I like? Let’s each of us move on to look for people whose tastes we share.
Hmm… wondering: If there were a big fashion push for women to get shaved heads, would there be people who’d say it must be because there’s men who have a fetish for chemo patients? (nevermind that there [del]probably[/del] surely are…).
Is the fashion for the bare look really an act of opression? Or just a fashion, no more, no less? Oh, then but what if someone feels “pressured” to conform… Well, IMO then that is no different from what already happens, often to much greater harm, WRT weight, body shape, style of dress, social aptitude, group with whom you associate, etc. Yes the group should not impose those pressures, AND individuals should be encouraged to have the spine to refuse to follow ***if *it’s not what they want for themselves. But I do not see conformance to fashions as some sort of per se sign of oppression, it’s just conformance to fashion; when you take it to extremes there’s a problem.

I am somewhat amused by some people’s apparent stunned disbelief that some others may find it comfortable. What’s so unbelievable about that?

Find what comfortable – bare or natural?

I’m in your neighbourhood (listen to KBIA every day), and yeah: the trends hit here slower. I bet the shaving/waxing trend was later to get here as well.

Interesting report, from an excellent source!

Yeah, and those can in some cases be really bad too. People usually focus on body weight and shape and portrayal of same in pop culture; but while I do find those somewhat troubling, to me what is much worse is the pressure for women to wear high heels (something else I can proudly report my wife never ever does). They are absolutely awful for women’s health. (Which does make them, admittedly, much more malign than the pube shaving, which is mostly just aesthetics and comfort.)

Maybe I’m just not paying attention, but I hadn’t heard of anyone shaving eyelids or cutting off eyelashes.

As for the pubic hair issue, I’ve tried shaving, and admit that it can be helpful with sanitation during my period, but it’s a hassle I don’t really care for, and I do wonder about men who like a less mature look. I concede that last part may be my own personal oversensitivity.

In this very thread a couple of posts have shown incredulousness that someone has posted they find “comfort” in the bare look. I am inclined to take people at their word that something is comfortable for them.

Me, too.
I kept sliding off.

You see when humans go through puberty they start growing hair around their “genitalia”. Genitalia is what makes babies. Some humans have penis genitals and some have vagina genitals. Humans are creatures of decoration. Some humans like to decorate their skin with fancy clothing and some humans like to decorate their genitalia in topiary like fashions. Now some humans prefer one type of topiary fashion over another for their genitalia. Some humans disagree with other humans over which topiary fashion one should decorate their genitalia with. Now as to why is because some humans are dickheads.

Here is an informational video by Jon Lajoie. It is NSFW because it has some adult human words in it that other adult humans do not think should be said in a place of business.

I wish people would stop with the vague references that men who prefer a bare look = pedophiles. That’s basically what people are saying. “Less mature”? I can guarantee you, no one is going to confuse me with a pre-pubescent girl. And I don’t see any of the guys who do state a preference for groomed/shaved saying that it’s because a woman looks “too adult” with hair.

I’m gonna assume that was what he meant. And I can’t roll my eyes hard enough each time I hear that stupid cliché. Anyone who harbors that suspicion should be forbidden from any self-depiliatory activity ever again, - legs, armpits, face, whatever - lest they begin to resemble a prepubescent version of themselves. Furthermore, they should only be allowed to engage in SexyFunTimes with likewise untrimmed adults, lest they be accused of having pedophilic tendencies.

And all this focus on how it looks is missing the point anyway. It’s about how it FEELS.

This. Bald is slippery when wet and not so much when one is sporting the full Demi.

People are smarter than that in a place where they know they are going to get crap for it. Take a look at the kinds of porn people search for and the way it is marketed and there’s “slim, flat chested, hairless” hangin out together. Not so much “hairless, big boobs” etc.

What proportion of men do you imagine are paedophiles if you think there’s a whole category of porn marketed at them and they’ve managed to convince millions of women to shave completely to satisfy their own preferences?

You don’t think it could be at all related to the fact that men in our culture generally don’t like women to be hairy anywhere else, except their scalp? Or simply because it’s what they’re used to seeing?

So does that mean Vajazzling is out? Or will they use beads now?

Dafuq are you talking about? Do you even look at porn? Hairless with big boobs is basically the default for the whole fuck film industry.

I love how whenever this issue comes up, there’s a class of proud feminist men who go around proudly insulting women’s choices and dictating what they should do. Feminism. Ur doin it wrong.

I hope vajazzling never goes away.

who has dictated anything?
