I’ve been planning for days to fire up the charcoal grill and make some country pork ribs. They’ve been marinating since Saturday.
It’s raining.
So I’ll fire up the grill in the rain.

It was 60F in the house when I got up this a.m. We may have to turn on the heat by the end of the month.
I remember growing up in Florida in the 50s, taking off after breakfast and not coming home until dinnertime, and my folks didn’t worry about me. Makes me sad, it does.
Gotta go. BumbaWife is up. Time to make brekkie.
Third load of laundry is in, after fighting with the spin cycle on the second load. I put an afghan and a comforter in together, and it was way too unbalanced to spin properly. So I took the afghan out and re-spun the comforter. The afghan will have to be rewashed - it still reeks of cat urine. ick. So when the jeans come out, the afghan goes back in. And that will be the last of the laundry - I’ll do a couple of other loads during the week.
I am showered and dressed, so that’s good. The blue guest room is just about ready for guests, and the green one is about halfway there - I still need to find a home for all the yarn I’ve been accumulating. My mom’s AARP group sends it to me to make afghans, but I’ve got more than I can use right now, so I asked Mom to stop the supply for a while. I’ll be taking a break from AARP knitting so I can make afghans for my niece and nephew for Christmas - I hope I have enough time to get them done…
I don’t want to go to work tomorrow. I like being off. Stoopit work. Stoopit bills requiring that I work…
grrrrrr
I’m right there with ya, FCM. I’d planned to have tomorrow off, but will instead be going in in the morning (long story, not worth it). But I’m leaving as soon as I possibly can.
Glad the fires missed you snowbunny. Tell your mom we all say hi and miss her.
Welcome back Kythereia! (Haven’t made it into your welcome back thread, so I might as well say it here.) I was just wondering the other day what had happened to you (can’t remember what reminded me of you).
Back from arts festival. It was fun and I had a root beer float with dark chocolate ice cream in addition to admiring all the talented exhibitors.
Sticky - I thought of you when I saw one of the exhibitors. They use both old china and silverware in their creations. They had a wall hanging that was a mosaic of broken china and silver forks. They also had switchplates and small bowls that were decorated with mosaics of broken china and pieces of porcelain jewelry.
Also thought of you, FCM. One of the ceramic artists had - among other things - funny little cats that looked a bit like B. Kliban ones, only more pyramid shaped.
Now off to consider what to do with the rest of my day.
Hugs all.
GT
That’s dedication to the manly-man spirit, right there. Go give the Old Spice guy a run for his money. ![]()
(Hi gardentraveler! sneaks in a quick snog)
Hell, I’ve grilled when it was snowing out!
yeah - not as impressive - snow is lightweight and doesn’t soggy up your steak
That’s cool, gt. I’m right on the edge of adding old China, too.
Right now I’m trying out Tapatalk. Hope my post doesn’t look too weird.
It’s hot over here, in the 90s, which means I’m procrastinating on anything that involves me going outside. I need to take a million trips to my new storage unit, which isn’t as big a deal as the old one because it’s like a mile, mile and half from home. I also need to move all the stuff I’m going to sell from the garage into the gazebo, which I don’t want to do because 1) Dad is outside applying fiberglass to the camper so it’ll stop leaking and I HATE the smell and 2) nearly all the stuff I have to move is books and thus heavy.
I’m doing laundry too, but the first load is washing again because I was 90% convinced I forgot to put soap in. :smack: My room is all clean - I picked up, sorted through all the books and DVDs and put most of them in the garage to pack, and vacuumed, dusted, and mopped. So, it looks nice except for the piles of laundry to wash, the bag of stuff the sell, and the pile of stuff to sew (I’ve got an embroidery project that’s 90% done, and a shirt to fix the stitching and embroidery one, and then two more projects to start.)
I’m currently (well, not currently, but you know what I mean) working on the office. I’ve switched out the big plastic box for my metal drawers that were in the storage unit so it’ll be a lot easier to find stuff. I’ve also moved my old PC away and replaced it with the laptop. I have to make sure I have everything and then wipe the PC. One of my mom’s co-workers is going to take it. I’ve got a basket of random stuff, a pile of projects, and a bag of leather and stuff from the storage unit to still take care of.
After that I have to do the annoying stuff of balancing my checkbooks (yes, two, because the paycheck company still hadn’t switched to my new bank account and I can’t close it until I’m sure I’ll get my paycheck), and paying bills. Then I suppose I should work on the computer stuff. sigh
I ended up wearing my kimono bra most of yesterday. It was actually very comfortable, but warm. (It basically looks like a halter top or something. It covers a lot. I could practically wear it as a shirt on it’s own.)
This reminds me…thought of you, too, STG. One of the artists at the festival made little kimonos out of metal, among other things, for wall hangings.
A little rain should never stop the charrin’ of meat. Then again, I have a covered deck so inclement weather is no worry. Maybe I should just shut up.
Waves at Kythereia!
gt I’m sure ShinyCat would be uncomfortable in a wire kimono. It just don’t sound right! ![]()
Oh and we’re havin’ leftovers for dindin. Well, I am steamin’ some squash to go with leftover cabbage and smoked chicken.
Poke loin, boiled N.O.T. lumps, broccoli, and cherry 'maters for supper. My big 'maters have been attacked by stink bugs and they’re all gross. ick.
I had to close the house - it got warm and muggy in here. We’re supposed to be near 90 the next two days, then autumn returns and the windows will be opened again. Thursday. I hope.
Time to dine. Laterz…
Well, the coals are starting. The deadpig is coming up to room temperature.
I don’t have any side dishes, unless I want canned green beans or if I want to grill some fresh pineapple. Oh, I could have rice. But I won’t.

I bet I could have one of the armorers at faire make a chainmail one. Or at least a jacket with kimono sleeves.
Room is clean, office is clean except for the framed picture I have to decide what I’m doing with (the picture is one of mine and very old and not very good. The frame is cheap and scratched up.) Still need to pay bills and finish laundry.
Rotissed poke is muy yum! And I have enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow.
Dishwasher is running, **FCD **cleaned the rotisserie, so yay for that! I shall soon assume the knit position and thus will end my long weekend… alas
Poke is a fine thing no matter how one prepares it.
Matter of fact, I’m thinkin’ grilled poke chops for tomorrow’s dindin. MMMMM… poke!
Oh I got a call from a co-parishoner a little while ago. She told me she her whole family was impressed with my <snerk> butt! <snerk>
Today was not a good day in textiles land.
I realized that I am completely lost in my cross-stitch project and suspect very strongly that I cut the fabric too small. I went out today and got a new roll of Aida cloth and will be restarting the project after I reprint the pattern and kick myself six or seven times. I also need to figure out how I’m going to bind the edges so they don’t ravel since my mom’s overedger now lives at Oldest Sister’s house.
I did not use the right pattern for my potholder. I do not want to sew the two pieces together, so I will be unravelling them tonight and using the folded potholder pattern I found on Ravelry. This, apparently, was the pattern I thought I was using the whole time.
Culinary Boy does not understand a hobby that involves restarting the same project so many times. I can’t throw my mistakes in the compost like he can.
Tried something I always wanted to - smoked some meatloaf. I made a couple pounder meatloafs and put them on open broiler pans covered in tinfoil lightly on the smoker side. Gave them about 1.5 hours at roughly 225 and then set them straight to the rack for another 30 minutes. Came out great! And while I was screwing around I did some burgers in a like manner except I didn’t cover them and I finished them on the rack over the firebox. For the burgers I gave them an hour in the smoke and a few minutes over the flames. They got this terrific smoke taste like a beef sandwich - something between a brisket and a whick.
Like I said, Swampy can rub butts but I’ll match him smoke for smoke.
(I even use liquid smoke to make my homegrown potato-juice into whiskey - but that’s another post.)
I worked, then went to my friend’s house, and played with her dogs(Nelly and Gordie are so jealous).
Ruble, the meatloaf sounds good. Smoked potato whisky?:dubious: I’ll stick to the N.C. moonshine(Last Thursday was a particularly good vintage)
Johnny L.A.(you need a Mumper nickname, and MG Guy would be too confusing), we’ve got the menu picked out for the Opening Day Tailgate-Beer can up the butt chicken, jasmine rice, and green beans with ginger.
Hey snowbunny!

I’d love to see that.
Tell me about it.
This past summer . . . the couple of weeks I spent in the US were HELL in terms of the heat (I think I visited right in the middle of the really bad heatwave on the east coast). Then I was in England for another week and the weather was gorgeous. And then I went to Ireland and froze my ass off.
Korea’s summer has been shit but thankfully it’s slowly starting to cool off a bit.
In other news, we got our new TV yesterday (after Irish boyfriend blew up our old one). It’s a Chinese brand (Haier) but so far it seems just as nice as a Samsung or an LG (and was a helluva lot cheaper).
