Grey and Cloudy - a seasonal MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’.

mmmmmm’s! So that’s what you look like.

Spaz I know that was weird cause been there done that.

BBBobbio we await the tale with bated breath.

Happy Hump Day!

Blurf.

Swampy, I’ll be composing in a short while. Unless I stop breathing. Then I’ll be decomposing. :stuck_out_tongue:

Up, caffeinated, off to irk.

Mornin’.

I had cold pizza for breakfast. Yum!

::waits impatiently for VBob’s story::

There I was, congratulating myself for surviving another monthly rescue squad staff meeting without falling asleep after the first 10 minutes. Forty five minutes of financial data, maintenance statuses of four ambulances, berations for not getting incident reports done on time, and training announcements will cure the worst insomnia.

We were probably 30 seconds from the motion to close when the tones went off. Gloria, one of the EMTs who is also a deputy stood straight up and announced, “I have to go! There’s an armed robbery at the Hooterville General Store, and I don’t even have my gun!” The night’s duty crew followed her close behind.

The decorum was gone, and the meeting was de facto over. People who live close by the scene jumped up and called home to tell family members to stay put and lock the doors. About two minutes after the duty crew left came a page for a second crew. Of course, I volunteered, or y’all wouldn’t be reading this tale.

Buddy Sue and a newbie basic named Jaxon also volunteered, and we took off. Sue’s radio has access to the sheriff’s channel, so we listened in to try to figure out what was going on. We heard nifty little nuggets like, ‘shots fired’, ‘head wound’, and ‘hostage taken’.

We waited along the roadway about a half mile from the store until we were told the scene was secured. We were cleared, and went in. The duty crew was working on the more seriously injured victim already, so I was picked to go inside and do vitals on a couple others who had more minor injuries and panic attacks.

Overall, I didn’t have much to do. Some vitals, and gophering a couple of cold packs.

The situation as I understood it after the initial confusion: Two bad guys entered the store armed with shotguns. Shots were fired into the ceiling, and a customer was butt-whipped, resulting in a possible skull fracture and a back injury. She was flown to Norfolk. A clerk also had a head injury, but I’m unsure if that was another butt-whipping or from falling in a panic attack.

The bad guys cleaned out the registers and the office safe, and took a male employee with them out the back door, where he was released without injury. They got away, and I presume they headed for Virginia, which is about 3 miles from the store.

Our sheriff’s department is small, maybe 10 officers. All of them were there, as well as officers from the Highway Patrol, the Hertford County Sheriff, and the Aulander Police Department. A lot of cops…

I’m a bit of a gun junkie, and as the excitement wound down, I stopped to admire the tactical hardware the Highway Patrol had. They had an M-16 variant, with a folding stock, optical scope, laser designator, and night vision. Very cool.

**Me: **“If you guys happen to meet up with the perps and use that on them, I wouldn’t mind treating the wounds.”

**NCHP: **“There won’t be any treating of bullet wounds.”

**Me: **“Then I won’t mind bagging them, either.”

**NCHP: **“You won’t have to bag them.”

Me: “<big wink><mock indignation> Alright, then. Decapitate them with your shots so I can at least have the pleasure of pronouncing them dead.”

We were there a little over an hour, and the most excitement we’ve had in quite a while.

ETA: News linky.

Is it wrong that I just sang “Happy Anti-versary” to my mother? :stuck_out_tongue: Today is (would have been?) my parents’ 37th anniversary but since they’ve been working on getting divorced for the last 4 years, I guess it doesn’t count, right?

Oh well.

Congrats on getting your ID back, ems.

Great story (as usual), Bob…total bummer that the dudes got away, though!

You’re so good at following up with everyone.

It went really well, thanks! I have exactly the skills they’re looking for, including experience with their customer. And – miracle of miracles – my salary requirement is in range for the position. They are a subcontractor on the particular program that they want me for, so the next step is an in-person interview with the prime contractor. I’ve been asked if I can meet with them this Friday at 1:30, and I’m waiting for confirmation of the interview day/time. So far, so good! It’s weird to think about leaving my company after almost four years, but there are no suitable internal openings and life must go on…

Kind of slept in this morning. Oops! mr ems didn’t sleep well last night and when the alarm went off he switched it off instead of snooze so we are both a bit late for work this morning. Good job I work form the house when I am not travelling!

Nava are you sure you don’t want the phone interviews as well? One guy yesterday didn’t answer his phone and another after a 30 minute interview for a job where we make it very clear it involves relocation asks me “So you have nothing in this (extremely small) town…then I am not interested” and hung up on me!

Today does not involve interviews but more data stuff and planning of an event for next week.

And my French tax bill is paid. Much relief there!

Almost Friday!

Glad the interview went well Missy. Appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed.

I am waitin’ on a call to set up a job interview. I put my home phone first on my resume because I prefer to be called at home. This call came on my cellphone and I missed it, so I called back on my home phone and left that number on the vm of the person who called. I’m really bad about not havin’ my cellphone on at home.

That’s the excitement from swampland.

Cool story BBBobbio as always. I hope they catch the perps.

Work keeps interfering with enjoying my lunch hour. Starting probably 4 or 5 months ago, they’ve started scheduling regular “lunch 'n learns” which are lunch time presentations on various topics. Some are important. Some are interesting. So I don’t mind seeing the presentation. But it’s a beautiful day out, and I really hated giving up my lunch hour for pizza in a conference room with my coworkers.

My old company had those, and called them “Lunchtime Seminars.” They were totally optional, though, and the topics weren’t necessarily work-related.

I found a yummy-sounding recipe for tilapia scampi so that’s supper. With some to-be-determined sides.

Temps are supposed to plummet tonight, so I expect to open the house later this evening.

That’s all I’ve got. I’m boring. Happy Wednesday!

Good news!

I have work tomorrow and it’s near TVLand!

I just ate the last of the pico de gallo. If I had the car, I’d be running to de sto’ for more grape tomatoes so I could bribe Culinary Boy into making more tonight. (I have declared myself Unable to Chop Correctly so he does all of the prep work that involves chopping. Which means he usually does all the cooking because once he starts prepping he wants to do it all.)

Tonight there will be New Kitty. Computer Boy is thrilled.

The tilapia is waiting for the oven to be turned on - daughter is enroute, so I’m timing the fish to be done when the rice cooker dings. Somewhere in there, I’ll make some veggies, too. I’m in a corn mood.

Peach streusal pie for dessert.

Then much knitting will ensue.

Yay for New Kitty!!! There will be pics, yes? Of course yes!

New kitties require pictures! We demand pictures!

Smoked poke chops, green beans and wild rice for dindin. Gonna go grill up the poke chops in a few minutes. Oh and crescent rolls cause they had ‘em on sale at the sto’ today.

Potential interview never did call back. I shall call again in the mornin’.

I’ve decided I need a secretary. Not to type or file or anything (although doing the filing for me would be nice), but to keep my mug full of water. I keep reaching for it and finding it empty. :frowning:

I had a consult for sleep apnea today. While doing “vitals,” I discovered that I’ve lost 20 lbs! Let me assure all, this was a total surprise and I did a little happy dance. Now to continue the losses! Oh, it turns out that I have to do a sleep study, in a lab overnight. Ah well!

So glad that today is Wednesday and only two more days to the weekend. BBBBobbio, that was indeed an exciting tale! Sorry to hear that the perps got away though. I don’t think I’ll mention that to my cousin; she’s still worried about hurricanes!

I stopped at my local farmer’s market yesterday and got some fresh veggies: red potatoes, a small eggplant, yellow and zucchini squash and a couple of tomatoes that need a bit more ripening. Oh yes, and a small cantelope! That lope smells soooo good too, can’t wait to try it tomorrow.

Yay for the upcoming weekend!

Shiny Cat - get a second mug! You’re welcome!

Supper was pretty good. Dessert will be later. When I have room. If you’re interested, thisis the recipe I used, but with only half as much butter, and cooking it at 350°F for about 30 minutes, and only turning it once. But other than that, I made it exactly! Someone suggested using white wine - I bet that would be good too!

I’s tahred - waking up at 4AM is not fun.
