Well, the first year for our interns was sure a turbulent one, wasn’t it?
So what did you think of this season’s finale?
I think that the only couple that belong together are Meredith and Cristina. Especially since Burke left, and Meredith effectively dumped Derek in the locker room before the attempted wedding.
And poor Miranda Bailey. She lost her favorite intern to the exam, and is trying to figure out how she lost out to a dark-horse candidate for Chief Resident.
So are going to be seeing more of Lexie Grey next season? And just what is it about the combination of Derek, Joe’s Bar, and Grey girls who are about to start their internship?
If you ask me, it looked like a series end, not just a season end. It was too cliche - the ‘true’ feminist can’t be false to her spirit bla bla. Stupid, annoying, unimaginative. It would have been more interesting had they shown how the two different personalities managed all the new challenges in their new roles.
And Izzy falling for George needs to be rebound-itis otherwise it’s inane.
Pretty much drove the last nail in the coffin for me. I checked Shondra’s blog to see what’s up. She was all ooey about the new show with Addison. I figure she’s gotten bored of the Grey’s staff and is turning her interest to the shiny new doctors in California.
Was Lexie Grey the girl Derek was flirting with? I didn’t realize that.
I cried when Christina was shouting “get this off of me!” Poor baby, she tried so hard to be what Burke wanted. And what the hell was Mama thinking to shave her freakin’ eyebrows?? Do you think Sandra Oh actually did that? It sure looked real.
Yeah, it was a horrible downer of an ending, especially after the great joy of The Office right before it. I felt worst for George out of everyone, but Bailey, Christina, McDreamy, and Izzy all had a bad time of things as well.
Hey, I have a question for all of you folks who have seen more episodes as I have. Is McDreamy portrayed as a really terrific boyfriend and awesome, sympathetic guy? My girlfriend and I think so. He had his wife cheat on him over an extended period of time with his best friend, she lied about it in the divorce to get a better settlement, and he has to work with both of them and remain civil on a daily basis. His girlfriend is the most selfish, flighty, self-absorbed person on the show, and it seems like she always takes his love and devotion for granted, just assuming he’ll always be there for her when she feels like having him. This came to a head with his excellent ice burn last night, about flirting with the girl (Meredith’s stepsister!) being the highlight of his week, but I thought this was at its worst when Meredith was dicking him around and dating him and Chris O’Donnell at the same time. So is Shepherd really as patient, caring, put-upon, and flawless as we think, or have we missed details along the way to make him appear as screwed-up as everyone else on the show?
Pretty much, except for a bit where he doubted Meredith for a short while. But of course, the theme of ‘love always sucks’ and ‘nobody falls for someone who will marry them, or if they marry, they will fall for someone else’ is the standard soap opera plot line. I thought Grey’s would buck that trend and feature a happy couple or two as contrast to the screwed-up ones. But why go against soap opera tradition?
Oh, I thought the girl in the bar had different hair (more layered) and looked a little older/less fresh-faced than Lexie Grey. How is Lexie Meredith’s step-sister?
No more George?? Maybe he’s too good an actor to stay in this role.
Izzy creeped me out with her “you look great” come-hither look. She always finds new ways to make you hate her.
“It’s so over.” I hate when characters say “you’re the love of my life”. What about Addison? Wasn’t she pretty compelling when you married her?
Maybe the Chief and his wife will adopt one of the babies.
The woman that flirted with Derek at Joe’s last week was the same girl that introduced herself to George in the locker room as “Lexie Grey”. Last week, when Thatcher and his other daughter (the one we met when she was giving birth), she said to Thatcher, when pulling him away from Meredith, “Lexie is waiting in the car.” At the bar, she was wearing black, hit on Derek (must be a genetic thing with those Grey girls), and said she had a real bad day (but didn’t spell out that she buried her mother after an unexpected trip to Seattle Death Hospital for hiccups).
Like Quiddity said above, this is a soap opera. It’s a required romantic conflict that a guy falls in love with his girlfriend’s previously-unknown sister.
As for Derek, he ain’t perfect, but he’s been generally the good guy in that relationship. Meredith is so wrapped in her mommy-issues, daddy-issues, and her internship that she really shouldn’t be dating right now. She keeps dissing Derek, most of the time not even realizing it. Like last night. She was so convinced that Cristina’s wedding was proof that she could have a great relationship with Derek, she completely missed the point when Derek confronted her in the locker room with his plea to pull her head out of her ass and start being in the relationship.
Bah, my VCR cut out right after Meredith’s whole “You will walk down that aisle” speech to Christina. I’ll download it eventually, but since I’m at work now and feeling impatient, can anyone summarize the ending?
Meredith channeled Cristina and told her what she needed to hear to get moving. But while that wa going on, Burke walked from the altar, into the vestibule, and told Cristina that if she had to be talked into walking down the aisle, she wasn’t ready.
We found out that George washed out of the intern program. He and Bailey had a sad conversation in the ER parking lot about who failed who.
Cristina went home and found that Burke had left. She had a mini-breakdown trying to get the dress and choker off.
George is cleaning out his locker when five new interns come in. One of them stays a little and talks to George, and introduces herself as Lexie Grey. She is Susan and Thatcher’s daughter. Thatcher talked about her at the dinner at the house earlier this year, confusing her with Meredith in an old picture.
Alex gets to the hospital too late to catch Ava (Rebecca Pope) how he feels, so he missed that opportunity.
I don’t remember the timeline exactly but in case these are after the VCR meltdown:
Meredith announces to the crowd “It’s over, it’s over. <out of the side of her mouth in Derek’s direction> It’s so over.”
The chief’s wife loses her baby but the twins from the mom giving them up for adoption are OK. Joe and his partner are holding them at the end so I guess she chose them.
The chief tries to offer the job to Derek but he refuses it and tells the chief he should stay on.
Thanks for the heads-up about Lexie Grey. That does make things more complicated!
But it turns out the baby was the chief’s. And that his wife’s decided he’s not so bad after all. So after telling all the interns that their jobs will ruin their family lives, he gets his wife back and his job back (isn’t there a joke about a country western song in there someplace?) while everybody else is up the creek sans paddle.
I thought that’s what they were trying to say, but haven’t they been apart for a while? I didn’t think she was that far along.
Yeah, I didn’t understand that part about the chief not giving Addison the job because she needed it too much. That seems perfect; she won’t be ruining personal relationships when the chief job consumes her.
You’ve got to remember that time on this show time is a little fuzzy. These first three seasons only covered the first year of the interns at Seattle Grace. That means that Denny Duquette died about four months ago, Joe fainted about 6 months after his heart surgery (I thought for sure they gave him a heart atttack when he fainted), Burke and Cristina have been together about 8 or 9 months, Callie and George have been together about 5 months, and last night was the one-year anniversary of Meredith and Derek hooking up. So they were only apart about two months, I’d say. Maybe three tops.
Ever notice that the only patients that die at Seattle Grace are family members of the staff? Ellis Grey, Susan Grey, Denny, and now the Chief’s and Adele’s unborn son.
I guess perception is everything, because I think he’s been a complete jackass almost from day 1, but more the past 3 months than ever.
Last night was the worst from the “it’s your fault I nearly cheated on you in a bar last night” to his girlfriend whose father just re-abandoned her on top of what was to be the most stressful exam of her career. Followed by “I’m not leaving you - so long as you read my mind and do what I secretly want you to do but am vague about when you ask explicitly and you jump through all the right hoops at the right time in the right way. And those hoops - they’re invisible. Now, I’m going to go pout.”
I want her to dump the bastard. No one deserves his crap. Not even Meredith the whiny.
I have to agree. He had a one night stand with Meredith and pursued her after it turned out they were working together. She tried to push him away because she shouldn’t be dating an attending. Eventually she gives in and the wife he failed to mention to Meredith shows up and Meredith is treated like the evil “other woman”. Derek continues to pursue her, she says no because he’s married and Addison pursues Derek. Eventually, Meredith gives in but McWishyWashy decides to give his marriage another try.
So he continues to make bedroom eyes at her for a while and they try to be just friends. She starts to see someone else, then McWishyWashy decides he wants Meredith. Meredith says she isn’t sure now and wants to date both, that’s okay for a while then he wants her to choose, but doesn’t really give her time to choose and says it’s over. She chooses him anyway. And back and forth and back and forth. What Derek wants is Meredith to commit to him so he can dump her yet again. He’s an ass. At least Meredith has the excuse of not having had nurturing parents and abandonment issues. Derek is just an ass.
I knew Burke would leave Christina at the altar because it’s been hinted at that someone would be left at the altar and Christina would be the obvious leaver, so I knew that it would be Burke because they like those twists. Well, they’re not twists when you telegraph them ahead of time. I’m disappointed that they couldn’t let one couple be happy.
I suspect that the Chief did not give Bailey Chief Resident because of her baby and he now seems to think he has to save everyone from destroying their families with their workaholic selves. He probably picked Cassie because he doesn’t think she and George are going to last anyway.
OK, keep in mind I’ve only seen the beginning of season 1, none of season 2, and the majority of season 3, regarding the Meredith/Shepherd relationship. I still think he comes off as a better person than she does, from the episodes I have seen.
Yeah, Derek is at least trying, and is aware of what’s going on with the other person. With Meredith, it’s all about her (even when she was “communicating” with Derek, it was still a “look how great I can be” thing.) Points to Derek for this one from me.
Burke, whoever, really surprised the hell out of me. He’s known all along that he has to initiate things wth Cristina. Why the hell would he pick his wedding day, of all days, to change that?
Sandra Oh was fabulous in that final meltdown scene and gorgeous in the wedding dress, and really freaking scary without her eyebrows. Major props to her for shaving them off.
I think Meredith and Derek are both messed up in their own ways, and have gone beyond caring at this point, but I was pulling for Christina and Burke
That was the rumor earlier this year, that T. R. Knight wanted to leave the show. About the same time the rumors of the spin-off that has become Private Practice started.
