Groening confirms Futurama movies

In this interview on The Onion AV Club, Matt Groening confirms that 4 straight-to-DVD Futurama movies will be made. Is this actually going to happen, do we think? It’s been suggested many times in recent years.

We’re going to do four of them, straight to DVD. And as we speak, I’m exchanging e-mails and ideas with David X. Cohen and Ken Keeler, both of whom worked on the show from the very beginning. Right now we’re trying to figure out whether to do a giant epic, or separate crazy movies, or what. But I wager that Bender will be featured prominently.

Yeah, but he’s made mistakes before. The voice actors don’t seem to know a whole lot more than the rest of us.

Billy West did make a mistake in his original announcement- he believed that the series was being picked up for a whole 22-episode season. This turned out not to be the case.

Then again, a Simpsons movie has been suggested many times, too. And since it was officially announced this March 31, many people (including myself) were skeptical if the announcement was real or an early April Fools’ joke.

The Groening interview was very interesting. And I’ve seen pictures of him before, but I must say from the photo that appears in the interview that Mr. Groening is actually a handsome fellow (and this is a man saying this!) And I’m glad he says that he thinks that people quoting Simpsons lines he meets on the street are not quoting the show, but insane, since he’s right. Most of us Simpsons fans are insane. Now let’s go back to that place where our beds and TV…is.

Damn do I ever hope this happens . . . I was just watching old Futurama episodes tonight. Man, that is one of the best TV shows ever made.
