GTA Vice City: Best game I have played on PS2!

I’ve recently started playing it again, I’d forgotten how good this game is!

I’ve got 45% complete, but I’m going for 100%. I’m currently having fun finding the unique jumps, and generally causing mayhem. I got six stars at one point, and had the whole army after me! I’ve been trying to jack one of the police fast undercover cars, but I keep getting busted.

Anyone know if there is any way to get the hearse if I didn’t get it on the mission, and without cheating?

Anyone else still loving this game?

I am… but on the PC :D. Mouselook and increased resolutions baby… who needs a console ;).

Just beat the main mission. Don’t know how much I’m going to continue with the other stuff (the Malibu ones are freaking hard!).

This game just screams to be played while sitting on a couch and looking at a 27+" TV.

ISiddiqui, are the controls better than they were on the PC version of GTA3? It drove me crazy trying to play with any degree of accuracy.

Hey, bernse got it - console = Big TV + comfy couch + big kick ass speakers!

Oh jeez. Got the game when it first came out. I’m stuck at 99%, with one Unique Jump left and the fricken ambulance missions. I’ve covered all the unique jumps with an faq twice, but still can’t activate it.

And I love all the music stations.

I don’t think that it’s possible to get the hearse again. I’ve still got mine in the northern hideout in the west island.

Oh, ISiddiqui, if you think that Malibu missions is hard, try the RC mission on th enorthern part of the beach. I had to go totally Zen, and be one with the RC :stuck_out_tongue:

Rabid: You talking about the one where you bomb the cuban boats? Jesus that was HARD. You’re right - you must be at one with the D-pad. In fact, all the RC missions are tough.

samarm , I’m with you! I’ve actually never stopped playing VC on the PS2 - I’ve just taken breaks that last a while. I’ve completed all the main story missions, but mainly just so I could open everything up for when friends come over.

I must admit that I have not picked up VC for the PC - sharper graphics? Well, they have to be pretty freaking sharp to compete with sitting on the couch, a 53" TV, and DTS digital surround. Oh man, am I ever spoiled.

My buddies and I end up competing over jumps - how far can you jump? Or seeing how long you can stay on a PCJ without letting up on the gas.

If you haven’t jacked a tank and ridden around town blowing things up just by hitting them, you are missing out!

Man, I’m going to have to load it up tonight!

And yes, the RC missions are EVIL!

I bought the game as was disappointed a great deal. The reviews hyped it up to be the second-coming while the game in actuality barely passes as a rehash.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved GTA 3. Vice City just didn’t bring enough new stuff to the table (And please, don’t compile me a list of what they added as I know what it is, just none of it was significant in my book).

I loved the open-endedness of it. Let’s see, today I feel like working on my car list for my dealership. Now I feel like cruising around, running people over. Fun fun fun! Especially when I’d set up a road block outside my dealership and just keep adding cars to it.

I love the game but I actually agree with skateboarder a little; it wasn’t as much of a leap forward as I was hoping.

On my wish list for “GTA: Hollywood” or whatever the next one will be is better AI. The AI in GTA:VC is rock-stupid. The cops are disinteresting opponents because they’re utterly AI-free; to see what I mean, start sniping civilians from an elevated place, like a parking garage. The cops not only won’t be able to get to you, but the FBI and SWAT cars will drive around in confusion and crash themselves up, not understanding how to reach your position.

Hmmm, I don’t agree, skaterboarder87: I felt like all the things I liked about GTA3 were changed completely around (licensed music vs self made music, a “talking” main character, 80s vs 90s, no more working for and pitting gangs against each other)… And yet Rockstar pulled it off and delivered another great installment that doesn’t feel or play like a mere add-on.
Just my 2 cents.

I love the game, though am currently taking a “break” from it. For some reason I am having trouble with the helicopters (remote control and the one Vance is piloting). I do not want to cheat to get past it, and have come sooooo close several times. It makes me want to rip out what little hair I have left. AAARRRRGGGGHHH
It’s also the only game I have for PS2 and the only one I really want.

The only bad thing about this game was that GTA3 was so innovative, that the super much much much improved version that is this game lost some of the “wow” factor from just being able to do some of the stuff. Besides that, it is much much better than 3, and is one of the best games ever.

For those of us that would love to use the cheat codes, could anyone post a link to PC cheat codes? I can only find the PS2 codes.

Actually, samarm, I was talking about the RC cars race in the beach course. You know the ones that spin out on a dime? The ones that seem to grip the track at random? And the driving on rails AI?

Lemme see, about 40hours to clock the game, another 40 for the rampages, most of the jumps, the property missions, the vechicle misions, racing. Another 15 hours for the secret packages. 10-15 hours attempting the ambulance missions. Man, I love this gaem

I’ll take my comfy leather chair and a monitor capable of 102476832 :D. AND mouselook!

What do you mean? The controls are actually pretty good on GTA3 for PC (at least I thought so).
