GT's vacation: a confessional and challenging MMP

Finally caught up. **kai ** - love your pics! **Haze ** - love the hair!

BBBobbio, move over - I’m joining you on the dead bench. Just found out this morning the man who hired me for my first engineering job died on Monday. He was only 67. He just retired 2 years ago. He was a wonderful boss and I feel bad that I never told him that. Rest in peace, John… :frowning:

In happier news, **FCD ** and I lunched together today - at the galley on base! That’s the chow hall, for you non-Navy types. We had baked fish, roll, veggies, salad, dessert, and a beverage for the whopping price of $3.85 each! Methinks we’ll be eating there a lot.

Daughter just called - today was orientation/meet the teachers. She said 16 of 20 showed up at her classroom, and 2 of the moms offered to help out if she needed them. I thought that was pretty impressive! She’s going out to dinner with a bunch of the teachers, so she’ll be home late.

I know there was more I wanted to say, but I fogot what it was. Guess it wasn’t important. We did have some lovely rain today. That’s all I’ve got.

taxi, the lamb poutine is a divine combination of shredded stewed lamb in a middle-eastern type gravy (heavy on the cinnamon, with hints of cumin and paprika), fresh-cut fries and crumbled haloumi cheese (a sharp Greek goat’s cheese - similar to Parmesan). To eat it is to have a close encounter with perfection.

Home from haircut and various shopping excursions.

This is the new haircut. Forgive the frizziness - it started drizzling as I was on my way home, which was all the excuse my hair needed to turn into a giant poof.

I’m somewhat disappointed with the style, to be honest… it’s the same damned long layered cut that I get talked into every time I see a new stylist, no matter how much I insist that it’s NOT what I want and provide specific, pictorial evidence as to what I DO want. At this point, I might just drop the $150 to see a stylist with some real vision (and real cojones to go with), because I’m tired of walking in asking for a change and walking out with the same thing I had before.

taxi I’m sure there’s a good place to meet gay hairy bears right there in Minneapolis.

gotti you keep sayin’ you have a leather jockstrap. I say, “Cite!”

Dindin was nummy. We ate had a little cuddle up time and then he had to leave. So, I’ve been doin’ a little of the work pile. I think I’ll attempt to finish it up tonight. If’n I do, I can get rid of it in the mornin’ then spend the rest of the day gettin’ ready for company. That sounds like a workable plan, right?

Ok, back to work.

ETA: Here ya go taxi! The Minneapolis Eagle! Possibly NSFW.

What? Here in public?

As for the MPLS Eagle, oddly enough, I’ve been there.

Have I complained recently aboutr how much of a pain Other Quasi-Daughter’s wedding dress was? Make a wedding dress, in two weeks, over Christmas, for someone who decides halfway through that she may be too fat to get married and doesn’t like the way the skirt sets and I don’t feel pretty and do you like being married, Lissla? Will I like being married, Lissla? Will he still love me even though I’m fat, Lissla?

Aaaargh.
I got plastered out of my mind that night and ate almost a whole pan of brownies myself.

Sorry. She was just here, complaining about being seven months pregnant and huge. Girlfriend, you’re gettin’ a lot bigger than that before you’re through.

She brought peach Tarte Tatin, which makes up for it.
I think this will be my last post before the Dope goes down, so have a marvellous holiday, everyone!

ETA: Muppet, I think I like the haircut. I can only get one photo to load, but it looks good.

OK…that was weird. I got home around 5:30 and was kind of tired. Started to read the MMP and FELL ASLEEP. With the laptop on my lap! Apparently, I needed a nap. Woke up around 6:30. I love vacations. Have I mentioned that?

Weird co-workers can be creepy, can’t they, Rebo? Hopefully, either the counseling will help or he’ll be able to find alternative employment.

Apparently Google is speaking to us as a collective. The combination of bears and sleeping babies made me giggle.

Feel better, Soapy!

And…while I’m thinking about it…thanks for the suggestions yesterday, Moment Slayer. I was sure Summer Actor’s Theater was over by now. Haven’t been there in ages.

Have a good trip, LiLi! See you on the other side…

Sounds like the new job stuff is working out well for both FCD and the kid, FCM.

So…I went out to look for another chair or two (if I find two matching ones, I’ll buy two), but found none.

Had fun nonetheless because I wandered into some resale/antique shops in a neighborhood I don’t usually go to, including a trendy vintage store (with new '60s furniture section!) where the bubbly salesgirl told me they hadn’t seen me in a while (well, yeah,…ever… :D), and a deli/sushi place where I stopped for a late lunch. I had an awesome salad. Somehow, having lunch in a totally new place really made me feel like I was on vacation. Apparently, I’m normally a major creature of habit.

Stopped at Trader Joe’s on the way home since I was out of everything I usually get there.

Now, I’m hanging out on the couch, had crackers and cheese for dinner, and am watching The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

Yep…lots of excitement chez GT.

There was more, but I can’t remember what…

Hugs…

GT

Now I got Gay Hairy Bears and Chronic Fatigue.

Well, not me personally… y’know, my friend has those. My friend Google.
I got ice cream tonight after yummy Thai food.

Reading Fellowship of the Ring and dancing a small dance that tomorrow is Friday and I’m off!

Well, not actually dancing as that would require getting up from this chair, and that ain’t happening soon.

Gotti- I’ll be meeting you on the 101 with an overturned case of tonic and a squashed bag of limes.

You bring the jock strap.

Well, I’ve been fatigued due to gay hairy bears several times…

I called dibs on gotti and the leather jockstrap already. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am amused at the thought of y’all lappin’ up gin and tonic off of a major highway however.

OH!!! I got through the work pile! YAY ME! I’ll go turn it in tomorrow mornin’ then busy myself with food prep and cave spiffin’ for the weekend invasion of homefolk. Guess I’ll be plenty entertained whilst the dope is down tomorrow.

I’ma guess whoever is hostin’ the next MMP knows to hold off until Tuesday so we’ll have one.

you gotta sleep sometime, bucko.

Vodka, baby. None of that nasty gin.

rigs is supposed to host the next MMP, swampy, but since she’s been gone, she missed all the exciting board migration news. I’m not sure if she’s back tomorrow or Saturday. In any case, I figure we’ll let her know in the part of this MMP that will be disappeared…

I’m being a complete slug tonight because it feels like Friday to me. Seems like a good reason to me.

Guess I’ll find another movie to watch or something.

GT

You would not believe the crappy evening that I’ve had. :frowning:

:: hugs for Pie ::

Whew! It’s been one HELL of a long day.

The orientation/class registration thing went well. We are going to purchase a transit pass from the cashier’s office at the university because we can get it at a discount there.

My daughter WILL be taking the bus and the link (ight rail). We just have to figure out which bus she needs to catch in my area.

I’m cooking a rather late dinner, so I couldn’t get much reading in; I’ve just skimmed. Huge hugs, smooches, feel betters, etc.

home, dizzy, tired. The DM and I will have a meeting with assistant she-demon. If he remembers.

{{{{Pie}}}}}
Rebo, i have considered the “go berserk so someone else has to do your work” thing. Nice to know I’m not the only one who can’t sack my problems.

Se you in DreamDope.

Burn the Heretic!!!

'scuse me? Why this time?
{{{pie}}}

Aw man. That was a heck of a busy afternoon for us. Gaaaaah.

But this job is sometimes just really cool. I talked to a guy calling from Hong Kong and a guy from Sydney today. Wow.

Why a couple of Aussies are having a wedding here in March is beyond me (I really must find out), but hey, it’s cool to make reservations for it!

then you’ll love this. My barbershop quartet is singing a parody song next week (lyrics mostly by me), to the tune of We’ll Meet Again:

*Let’s say goodbye to that pie, now. And we know why, now. It must stop, it must stop.
Don’t let the scale upse-e-et you, if when you ste-ep, you make the springs pop (springs pop)…

We’ll eat again, after five, maybe ten, but I know we’ll eat again some skinny day (skinny day)
Just twenty more, and we’ll fit that Di-or! Then we’ll stuff our face with cheese and cabernet (cheese by the tray)

We could jog for a while, try to make it a mile, and then see how we feel (just how we feel)
After that if we like, we could go ride a bike and pick up a Happy Meal (Great deal!)

Oh we’ll eat again, and know how to say when, and our skinny jeans will fit that lovely day (or so they say)

We could jog for a while, maybe just half a mile, and then after we’re through (what will we do)
We could take up Tae Bo, or perhaps Tae Kwan Do, it’ll make us feel brand new

Oh we’ll eat again, and won’t need that Phen-Phen, we’ll be happy with ourselves that lovely day,
[tag:] that cheesecake will be mine!! some day! (some skinny day)*
(c) 2008, Hold The Mayo Quartet

that is cool. Is that a new feature, or has it always been there? (and will Jerry make it go awy this weekend or do we get to keep it?)

I’m still here. Barely. Struggling along. Working. An all-nighter (or close to) may be in my future; Papa Tigs really wants to leave before 9:00 tomorrow morning to beat traffic. And alas, that means I probably won’t get much of any sleep since in addition to working all day, I’ve done five loads of laundry.

Anyway, I probably won’t be around this weekend, so everybody enjoy the Disappearing Weekend! Don’t have too much fun while I’m gone!

Well, I’m still up.
