Puggy, that’s exactly what I’m looking for, horse driving lessons. Unfortunately, most of the stables have been pushed way out into the hinterlands, not that it was ever easy to find someone to teach you to drive (horses, not cars). My grandmother could probably teach me, she has, or had, both a sulky and a carriage, but hasn’t had driving horses in years. I’m sure she would be absolutely delighted, but the thought of having to deal with my family again gives me the willies. That’s why I’m still considering it.
Nava, I love your Scotland pics.
gotti, can you sew? You could whip something up that way. If not, you definitely have time to learn to knit before the Dickens Fair. San Francisco has some awesome yarn stores, too. So does the rest of the Bay Area. At least for now, you can throw a rock and hit a yarn store around here, although I expect that will change in the next year.
Throwin’ rocks at yarn stores somehow intrigues me…
Nice pics Nava!
I’s home with a work pile. Glad to be home too cause it’s lookin’ all stormified out, and, of course, rainin’. I could use a nappy poo but I shall be a good bear and work. I also have beef stew in the slow cooker for dindin. Ima steam some asparagus and make some baby cornbread muffins to go with. 'Twill be nummy! Just sounded like a nice dreary day meal.
Life just keeps getting better and better for me, NOT!
Neighbor Fred came by this morning to ask VWife about borrowing $40, and he found a copperhead by the back door. I’ve had enough of these motherfcking snakes in my motherfcking back yard!
I will be showing VWife how to use the shotgun, the .22, and one of my revolvers all with snake loads.
Did some major clean-up in one corner of the garden. Very satisfying. Also started to clean the garage. NOL was Cheerios with dried cherries (I wasn’t terribly hungry; if I get hungry I’ll grab something while I’m out). Now it’s off to thrift, then work a bit in the garden at church then off to sample wines…
I’ll read and make appropriate comments tonight.
In the meantime: hugs, cuz everyone can always use one.
Mailing the snake?
Just put Nat down for a nap, about to wash Fun Dishes and then get the laundry ready to run while we go in and talk to my boss about coming back to work. Maybe on the way I’ll pick up the $15,000,000 winning lottery ticket and i won’t have to go back.
And I could buy a house and hire a maid.
That would be nice.
Pulled pork in the crockpot, and I think I’ll do chocolate cherry bread pudding and maybe a veg crumble for dinner, if my energy holds out. We’ll see. That’ll feed us until we leave for the weekend.
The patterns I’ve read (probably 4 or 5) just say to make a gusset for the thumb, but don’t say how to make it or what to do, grrr I hate patterns. I much prefer to know what I’m doing and make-up my own pattern. I’ve been knitting for a quite awhile, but I’m still a beginner with a lot of things…It’s an odd position.
I am very grrrrrrr right now. We’re swamped at work (in large part because some processes didn’t run yesterday so we got delayed by almost a full day), but we’re being *required *to go to a stupid department “off-site” (read: party) for at least a little while. “And then you can come back and just stay as long as needed to finish up your work, right?” ARGH! I always get my work done, and yes, sometimes that means staying late. But not because I had to go to a flippin’ party in the middle of the day because it’s good for appearances. GRRRRRRRRRR!
OK, can I just rant a little more? (Of course I can… that’s what the MMP is for!) No one wants to go to this #&$(@#&(&*@# party. We’re all stretched too thin right now. So we’re all being told we HAVE to go. And we’re all angry.
So, um… why plan a party at a time of year that’s known to be busy? During a week leading up to a long weekend when lots of people are likely to take time off, compounding the busy-ness? And when people seem like they’re busy and not interested, why not just reschedule instead of forcing us all to go? Boy, there’s no better time than a party that you’ve required people to go to.
I think maybe it was my ranting. Sorry. I’ll try to have a better attitude.
Mousie, I’m starting to feel like I’m in the same boat. I’m getting really good at knitting square/rectangular things like baby blankets and quilts. And I just make up a pattern as I go (sometimes starting and stopping and pulling stuff out and restarting multiple times until it looks like what I want) because it’s more fun that way. But I have no idea how to knit socks or mittens or hats or anything that’s not square. And I have no interest in doing sweaters or anything that’s really complicated or that would involve sewing pieces together once I’m done. I’m just happy with my scarves and blankets.
I should take some pictures of my knitting. I’m working on two different kids’ scarves (they’re kid-sized mostly because I’ve only got a limited amount of yarn in those colors) and a throw blanket that’ll go on our new-ish couch when it’s done. The blanket went on hiatus for the summer 'cause it was way too hot to put a blanket on my lap while knitting it! It’s almost time to get back to that. And maybe a new baby blanket 'cause they’re just fun. I really do like knitting, even if I don’t always follow the rules or use patterns.
There. I thought about knitting and my attitude is much better!
For the past couple of years BBBobbio has been threatenin’ to mail me snakes. It’s my fault. I let him know where I live.
I’s hongry! The beef stew smells soooooo good! I put in some new N.O.T. about an hour ago. They should be nice and tender. I like chunks o’ stuff in stew, so it has chunks o’: beef, N.O.T., celery, carrots and (not so large chunks) onion.
I’ve decided that I’ve had enough of the work pile for one day. I got a goodly amount done and will be workin’ on it over the next couple of days.
Maybe I need some cheese and crackers to stave off hunger.
ZOMG!!!1!! 2 chairs (not matching, but they’ll be painted the same color), total investment: $4.98. Decent quality. One needs an additional bolt for stability. One from Goodwill; one from VOA. Other stores were OK, but none of them had the chairs that I was looking for.
Well, the upshot of all the talk about Facebook is… I’m now registered…
Haven’t quite figured out how to add hints for people to search by, so I’ll just write down my real name (by which I’m registered) and let anyone who wants to look for me… It’s Dan Abarbanel.
**Rosie **-- never was that much of a Beatles affectionado… a bit too young, by the time I was really listening to music (early/mid 70’s) they were past their heyday. And I positively despised “Wings.”
And even if I wanted to go… $150 for the cheapest tix? I don’t think so
You’ve all been way to chatty for me to keep up, so yay, boo, etc… as appropriate!
**swampy ** - GMTA! Well, almost alike. I’ve got a big pot o’veggie-beef-rice-barley soup simmering away. And I grabbed a fresh loaf of italian bread so’s we can have a side of bread-n-butter. And ice cream sammiches for dessert.
Daughter just got home - she had a looooooong day. I beat **FCD ** home, and I stopped for veggies. I fear that riding with him will make for long days for me.
Now I’m in a pissy mood–if I told you why, I’d have to leave the Dope from shame. Put it this way: I’m a grown up and should be able to shrug truly petty stuff off. Not.
 at me. I think I need dinner.
Still have not packed, but did water all the transplants in the garden. Suitcase is on the bed, as are the clean clothes, so it’s just a matter of will now. Tix printed out, bus tix arrived, maps to nearby Targets and Linens&Things printed. Have cash, will travel.
Am charging my iPod now. Phone is charged. Anything else I need to do? I don’t have a palm pilot (I use this radical technology called pen and paper–truly a miracle!).
I have nothing more to say. Sorry to bore you all. I hate snakes, but feel they should be allowed to live in the wild–your back door is not the “wild”, though.
Cornbread is almost done. Peach cobbler goin’ in oven to cook while dindin is et. Ol’ y’all know who just pulled up. It’s almost suppertime! Ima go eat!
I’m back from the forced party and I’m in a much better mood. I think just eating some food helped. However, as it gets later in the evening, and I’m still here working, I’m going to get less happy again. But for now, I’m here to say it wasn’t bad. At least they fed us. But I do want to go home. Can anyone make this stuff go faster so I can go home? Please?
Quick drive by, I gotta go see the doc wrt both the carpal tunnel surgery and getting the wls process going. Lots of hoops and tests for the latter, but it’s all for the best of my health. If I become cute again, that would be nice also.
It’s grey and 56 F with yet more rain in the forecast. We have had virtually no summer, never breaking 69 degrees, and wet, wet, wet. I suppose that’s what I get for settling on a big rock in the Gulf of Alaska.
When I get the kids in bed I’ll write up a story for you, anything in particular you wish to read about? Bears? Eagles? The sea? Fishing? Just lemme know.
Hugs to all; it seems like many of us are having a hard/annoying week/receiving bad news.
Noone: I have a Facebook account. This evening, when I get home and when I get chance, I’ll look you up and send you a “friend request”.
I cannot freakin’ believe it’s only TUESDAY. It feels like it should be Thursday at a minimum, sheesh.
Sigh, I have to go work out tonight too. I am beat, I tell you, beat, but I’ve got to do it. We went to our friend’s place for a BBQ last night where we met his brother and SIL, the new gal he’s started dating, and her relatives from Germany. All very nice people. It’s too funny; the relatives live in the town right next to where I lived in Germany.
I’ve got a pot of what could best be described as instant beef stew in the fridge. Last Friday, I looked in the fridge and spotted a few pounds of beef chunks that were on the cusp of going bad, especially since we were not going to be back home until late Sunday. At today’s prices, that’s just not allowed! So, the meat was first seared in the dutch oven, then an onion got quartered and added along with water, and the simmered for a couple of hours, then chucked into the fridge as we were not going to be home that night.
All I need to do is dice up some carrots, spuds, celery and cook it up. Might do it tonight.
