Shortly it will be time to go and mine the boxes. We’re doing better in the same sense the French did better in WW I ------- throwing bodies into the grinder and clawing our way over their twisted and broken remains. But with the cap and all we are caught up and didn’t roll over any packages for the last two days. So light is ahead of us.
Y’all can have my share of gin…& tequila; trade ya’s for yer (good) beer, Scotch, vodka, &/or other colored alkeehauls (bourbon, whiskey, etc)
I watched the Iggles & drank till I passed out last night; about ⅔ of the way thru the first beer. :o Guess that happens when one is watching horizontally on the sofa. Sari, don’t know codes in your town or what was in place back when the buildings were built &/or what needed to be done when that was walled off but modern code (for many years) states there should be a firewall between two residences. A warped, shrunken sheet of plywood does not count as a firewall.
I’m no lady (nor anyone’s wife!) but iffn you want, I’ll yell at you for a barely adequate reason.
It’s a barrel rested gin from Great Lakes Distillery in Milwaukee. My husband loves gin and loves this. I abhor gin and like this. I couldn’t drink it straight (or even on the rocks), but in a Manhattan or Old Fashioned, it’s actually really good.
It’s not available outside of the upper Midwest, though. But if any of you end up in the Milwaukee area, I suggest you stop by that distillery for a tour. They make all kinds of awesome stuff, from absinthe to barrel aged gin to vodka to rye… so much.
I almost overslept. I logged into irk with just a minute to spare.
Irk has been busy, which is a good thing.
It’s cloudy with a high of 41 predicted for the day.
Lot’s to do on the agenda.
I’m going to get on my niece’s bf and get him out here to get some of this irk done or I’m just going to call somebody to do it. His choice, do it or lose it, because I can’t wait any longer.
He’s going to have to do it soon because my mother is having surgery - knee replacement - on the 13th, and he is going to be helping her after than.
One thing I can say for him is that he does take good care of my mother. Better than any of us, although I have the excuse of living 2 hours away. He will drive her around to the store and doctor appoinments and do the heavy stuff around the house.
I’m sorry about my long rant last night. I was tired and should have just gone to bed. The truth is the plywood has probably been there for years because this house was rented out before I bought it, so I doubt it was a qick fix to sell it. However, the temp extremes from the missing window is probably the cause. Iguess it was my bad for thinking that closing off a doorway meant studs, insulation, and drywall.
My neighbor is lucky I am a honest person, and that there are no kids in the house. Kids would see a gap like that and think they have stumbled on a secret room. Swampy, there probably is some kind of code violation there. Around her you can get written up for not keeping your rrash can out of sight. I just don’t want to call up on her, but I have mentioned the window several times and she either doesn’t care or her niece (the landlord) won’t fix it. Maybe her niece wants to force her out so they can sell the property. I don’t know the terms, other than my neighbor is allowed to live there until she dies or goes into a nursing home.
I just don’t want it to get ugly. Spidey - we do have firewalls everywhere else, except the attic. That is also just plywood nailed to studs. It’s in the agenda to get some real walls put in but that is way down towards the bottom of the ToDoList. Who knows when this was done though and what the code was at that time.
Ruble, da jungle must be doing good because I am getting my packages quickly. Yesterday I got 5 boxes and 4 envelopes. I just got a notice that something was delivered already this morning. I should have everything by tomorrow, then I can wrap everything and have it ready to go. One fewer thing to do.
Congrats on job interview RoadRunner!
I hear San Diego is a beautiful place. One of my cousins lives there, or used to, another person I can’t keep up with. I have an unce and several cousins who bounce back and forth between California and Colorado.
Hope everything goes well for niece and babby George!
Having an adminny sort of day, I’ve been getting all caught up trying to get a bit of skool irk sent to the lecturer for feedback, and stuff’s been piling up. Finally got it sent off today. That means catching up on things like booking a coach for the trip to the dentist in a few weeks (have I complained enough about that yet? No dentists taking on NHS patients in the whole county of Cornwall, so I had to get one back in Bristol, 2.5 hours drive away).
I’m staying there a few days, visiting friends and probably doing some last minute shopping, so it should be quite nice really, but I’ll be back again 5 days later, overnight, heading up to visit parents for Christmas (I have work in between, I can’t leave the axolotls that long and there was no other way of scheduling it). I wasn’t gonna drive down twice in a week, so coach it is.
There seems to be a lot what needs doing lately. There’s no deadlines for another month, but I’m not sure how much time I’ll have over the holidays, so I want to be ahead like a good little stoodent.
We learned last night that one of my husband’s best friend passed away last week. It was very unexpected. They’ve known other since the mid-eighties, and were in touch almost daily. It’s all very surreal. I guess we’re in the denial phase. I’m ready for this year to be over. It’s been rough.
Sunny, condolences to your hubby and his friends’ family. I am torn about which is worse; knowing somebody is dying for a long time or dying suddenly and unexpectedly; I’d just rather people didn’t die at all…
Nut, hopefully the dental trip will be worth it. And I read your rant in the December mini-rant thread; kid needs a good butt-kicking or you need to transplant it and fill the pot with concrete and a fake plant–broken toes tell the culprit.
Sari, hope the housing thing works out for you.
Roadrunner, hope it works out; San Diego is one of the nicer ‘big cities’ I’ve visited.
doggio, you should know we’re all ready to yuell at you for no reason, anytime you need it…
Butters, enjoy the day off.
ruble, what are the ‘bosses’ going to do in about a week or so, when the ‘last-minute’ Xmas rush hits them?

George, best wishes for niece and little one.
Shady, MD 20/20 was a thing in college in the 70’s; I guess it’s migrated down the ladder to secondary schools…(damn that was nasty stuff).
Whew! That’s what I get for taking a day off. Pretty much have done nothing constructive today except take a bath and shave so I look presentable. Lunched on grilled cheese and tomato sammiches, so belly is happy. Put in the last eardrops last night, so that is an annoyance completed (to be fair, they worked just fine).
Back to browsing (and reading).
And oops…double posted while trying to add some more remarks…my bad.
Howdy Y’all! I have been productive today. Go Me! Finished spiffin’ da cave, did laundry, ahrned some shirts, voted (run off today in Jawja for Secretary of State and Public Service Commissioner), made chikin enchiladas (OLÈ!), and even watched two episodes of Versailles on Netflix (entertainment while ahrnin’). Sup has been supped and now chillage ensues.
George hope niece and baby are OK.
{{{Sunny and hubs}}} so sorry about the loss of hubs’ friend.
doggio let me guess, the store was out of MD 20/20 and Precious Moments, AKA creepy bug eyed children, Christmas cards.
Ruble I have ordered nuttin’ from Amazon so it ain’t my fault whatever happens.
shady, I haven’t had MadDog for a lot of years and would rather be sober than drink it again.
Irk went well. I’m putting [del]mutant[/del] candy cane reindeer kits together for the heathen children for December. All of the kids in my family would make one regular reindeer and finish off with a whole mess of mutant’s for the Christmas tree every year. Personally, I find it very much in solidarity with Rudolph.
Some guy on Wagon Train has Katherine Ross Hip-no-tized to shoot a banker so the guy can steal some money. Coop is on it instead of Flynt McCullough, so we don’t know how things will turn out.
I liked the orange flavor…… but you could mix it with power/Gatorade and walk around town …….(or around the school its self ::looks truly innocent:
8th grade I discovered vodka ……and I forget when I first drank bourbon……. I never got into beer until they started flavoring it oh and zima…… I can drink that by the gallon heh ihated they quit making it ……but its been years since ive drank and its not my idea either…
Roadrunner, sorry about you not getting the job. Hope things work out.
Shady, I must have lived a sheltered life, didn’t run into the hard stuff until college and my first job (worked at a restaurant; one of the bosses introduced me to Wild Turkey bourbon–swore of liquor ever since…)
Pretty much a nothing day, but I did find a $30 Walmart gift card, so I’ll look for an opportunity to spend it.
I would be curious what route it took. At the bottom of the label will be a series of boxes that say something like CVG4 - STL7 - AVP1 ------ those are the airport city codes of where it was filled and who/what place it was shipped through. Most times the vast majority of places are fantastic about it.
Us? Today we had late trucks again. TPTB asked is to clock out, take a half hour lunch we didn’t have with us to eat, and then clock back in to process 17k that was slow showing up. I considered it; really. But I have my GP/GS and cardiologist at 9am and I figured I didn’t want to be whacked for that.
