It’s about 2am local time and I’m awake again, woke up about 1:30 and could no get back to sleep. No position seemed comfortable, the comforter that I’ve slept under for years seems uncomfortable all of a sudden, and since I am up playing solitaire until I feel sleeply again…
Anyone else (I know Mooooooommm have this happen and what do you do? I’m going to change covers, see if that helps.
I’ve been in this weird sleep mode lately where I try and go to bed early or even later doesn’t matter and wake up randomly in the middle of the night, can’t go back to sleep till like 5-6am, and wake up at noon. God, it sucks.
Woke up at same time as you 1:30am, there was no food in the house so I went and got fast food, now I don’t know what to do. I want to go to the gym today but not sure what time I’ll end up going.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 45 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy (I guess cause it’s dark so I can’t tell) with a predicted high of 78 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Rain shall move in tonight and hang around tomorrow accordin’ to TWPTB. We shall see. This mornin’ I shall head over to the church house to clean the ice machine as it needs a cleanin’ real bad. This is not as yuck as it sounds but does take a couple of hours. Takes thirty minutes for the machine to go through the clean cycle and then must be rinsed three times (ten minutes per rinse) and then the bin wiped down. Tonight is men’s night over to the church house, thus steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. This should be enough to keep me outta trouble for the day.
MetalMouse hope you’re snoozin’ away as I post. I get those nights occasionally. Hate it when I wake up and can’t get back to sleep. Since it should be rainin’ up your way, 'tis a good day to stay in and laze around for you.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, alas, alack, and bother, I shall purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Life can be so difficult!
**MetalMouse **- despite what folks say about not having screen time at bedtime, I find that playing mindless match games on my tablet will help me fall back to sleep, as long as I’m not thinking. If my brain starts going into overdrive, chances are I won’t fall back to dreamland.
Another technique that occasionally works is consciously relaxing muscles, starting at my toes and working up the skeleton. If I can do that without engaging my brain elsewhere, I usually drop off pretty quickly.
Good morning! I’ve got a load in the washer, I’ve started the ice maker, and I’m showered and dressed. Today I will mix up 2 more batches of cookies and bake at least one of them. I’ll probably also run the vacuum cleaner thru the traffic areas. And I need to run to Food Lion for bananas and CVS texted me that I have drugs. So it’ll be a fairly busy day.
One nice thing about this retirement stuff - I don’t have to spend all day doing laundry - I can stretch it out over the week. Daughter asked if I can leave the weekends to them, which works. Thus begins our new routine.
Yesterday, my mom gave us the usual Christmas gift - a platter of assorted cookies that she baked. This year, she also included a pound cake. So all of that, plus the cookies I’m baking, and the turkey, will be going with us to FL. FIL has a serious sweet tooth, and MIL doesn’t bake as much as she used to, so this will be a treat for them. And it’ll get all this sugar out of my house!
Well, I’m back (and hopefully typing better than at 2am). Tried a different blanket this time and dropped right off, so we’ll see if that’s it. It’s 65F outside and the house is fairly warm, so at least my gas bill will appreciate the weather. Rain is now due about 3pm, swampy, albeit once it get here the weatherfolks say it’ll stick around awhile.
Did activate brain cells enough this morning to pick out colors for the great room/dining room and the bedrooms for the painters. Will go with a light brown for the great room and a red for the bedrooms. Combined with a yellow kitchen, green bathrooms, and a blue master bedroom, it will at least be a colorful place to live in. (for the record, the colors SW9106-Woven Wicker and SW-6606 Coral Reef on the Sherwin-Williams site).
Need to do a couple errands and visit the Jersey Mike’s for the Monday sub sammich. All y’all take care now.
We have snow!
Supposed to snow all day today, all night, and tomorrow.
I decided we’ll get groceries today instead of tomorrow.
Baby Echo saw her first snow.
She ran to the edge of the deck and saw all the white and stopped. Ripple ran past her into the snow, and so she ran after him.
They had a great time at the park running in the snow.
Except Ripple ran too close to the fence, wrestling with Jax, and got his foot caught. I think he is okay, he runs and walks on it, but still favors it a bit.
I’m not going to the viewing or the funeral. Like Swampy said, snow and mountains are not a good combo. If I went to the viewing, we can add in dark. Also, I’d be by myself and I expect there will be no cell service and no internet. I wonder if anybody back there has cell phones. I know they have internet, because I see them on FB. When OAOASO drove through WV, he quite often didn’t have cell service. For a long time he had to have a Nextel phone because it had the walkie-talkie or whatever it was feature, that would work in WV.
I have been losing a lot of things lately, probably my mind too. Strange for me to do that as I am always pretty anal about putting things where they belong. So far though, I’ve lost my keys twice (they were by the phone charger in the Kitchen), the dog’s harnesses (beside my chair in the living room where I had taken them off), a pair of socks (behind the toaster oven, which actually kind of makes sense since the dryer is next to the counter where the toaster oven lives), and now the remote, to the TV in the living room. I seldom use it, but I had just used it the night before, so where is the remote? I have also forgotten to turn off the oven twice, forgotten to turn on the clothes washer twice, the dishwasher once, and the dryer once.
I will be so happy when the holidays are over and everything gets back to normal.
My last full day of sloth. If nothing else I am well rested. I do know I need to work for the mental stimulation.
On my last day I shall spiff up the crib and finish some laundry. I never did go grocery shopping so the fridge and cupboards are rarely bare. That may or may not happen. I need to finish the laundry and I need to clean out my car.
Jeans and slacks are clean, dry, and hanging in the appropriate closets. Roxy and I ran to Food Lion and CVS, and she’s now napping. I’m having a bowl of soup, after which I’ll mix up a batch of molasses cookies, then the oatmeal cookies. SIL will be leaving for work soon.
It’s rainy and ick outside, but at least we’ve been spared the snow. Supper will be teriyaki poke chops, rice, and Roxy’s favorite green beans. When did I become so domestical???
Afternoon all. I now haz a laptop computer of my very own, arrived this morning via Fedex (who was so quiet I never heard him and I’m less than 15’ from the door. Will play with it this afternoon after nappage (still kinda tired).
Calling or e-mailing painters to get estimates and I need to contact the Salvation Army about picking up the old furniture. Also trying to hire the neighbor’s kids to help pack up books and move the bookcases to the garage (I have 15 8-ft. tall wood bookcases, so I’m not going to replace them). Goal now is to finish things by the end of January (hah!).
I mixed up a batch of molasses cookies and oatmeal/oatmeal raisin. The molasses dough is in the fridge. The oatmeal/oatmeal raisin batches are nearly baked. Roxy approves. I need to run back to the kitchen in a few minutes to get the next batch out of the oven.
well, part 3 or 4 of family drama started last night … cousin was either snooping around in aunts room or aunts now-former friend told her (or both) that I gave her cousin’s former job sos shes all kinds of pissed again and showing her ass in various ways
aunt and I were enjoying ourselves on an outing when she called and I had to run home because of epic tantrum-throwing so her disabled sister wouldn’t be left alone …aunt was so upset that she drank more than her normal beer or two and stumbled in at a quarter to 4 …
then I realized I had no bed clothes washed so I froze in a pair of shorts until the laundry was done …
Now aunts at the mall shopping since her brother made a trip from anaheim just to take her shopping and alls quiet and peaceful for a few minutes anyways
For the good of the order: This is a maintenance tip for anybody who owns a washing machine. If the hoses are 3-5 years old or more, replace them. 3-5 years is the life expectancy for these things, regardless of type. If yours are older than that, you’re living on borrowed time. It’s cheap flood insurance and can easily be done by almost anybody who owns a pair of pliers.
The other option is to have an automatic shutoff valve installed (which I have). The valve turns on when the washer does and turns off when the washer is done, which means there is not constant pressure in the hoses. That doesn’t mean that the hoses will last a lifetime, but a lot longer than the 3-5 year window. My valves also have a water sensor that sits in the pan that’s under the washer; so if there is an internal leak, the sensor will shut off the valves.
Oh, the irony. I read MetalMouse’s post late last night but was too sleepy to reply. I then woke up 90 minutes later and couldn’t get back to sleep. Lay awake until 5, then slept until 11 a.m…
More times than I care to remember, I would get to a client’s home and find a flooded basement because a washing machine hose broke.
Once for a clogged air conditioner hose, once for a leaking hot water heater, twice for pipes that burst because the client didn’t turn off the outside faucets in the winter time.
Daughter came home and emptied the dishwasher, so the kitchen is tidy till I start making supper. The rice is cooking and I’m about to put the poke chops in the oven.
And I vacuumed. Busy day - I hope to sleep well tonight.
