Guest MMP II: A story, moral optional

Just a quickie note as we have dashed home to feed the critters and ourselves. FCD came thru surgery just fine. The doctor said he’d be in recovery for a couple of hours, so we took advantage of that time to get out of the waiting room. We’ll be heading back in a few minutes, hoping he’s in his room by the time we get there. Assuming there are no problems tonight, he’ll come home tomorrow. Then the fun starts - he’ll probably be a grouchy Gus for a few days, but then he should be able to start moving about more freely.

So that’s all for now. I’ll be back with more news tomorrow. All the good thoughts and prayers were greatly appreciated. I’m glad the worst is over.

Glad to hear** FCD** is doing fine. It took me 12 hours to come completely out from nder the gas, so don’t count on him being bright eyed and bushy tailed tonight.

He’s grouchy at home at his own peril simply because you’re so nice, damn it!

Well the obvious thing to do here is to tell you that I’ve got something that you can ride. I can’t believe that no one else caught it first.

And you’re welcome, Lissla

We caught it,CB. Some lines are so obvious that it’s better to leave them untouched.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Lissla!!!
and
YAY!!! FCD’s surgery went well!!!

Two happy occasions in one!!! Glad to hear ems is doing better, even if it is peach-colored-pill induced.

Nice pony… and, CB, what Bobbio said.

Sean, I thought it was a nice picture too. (In fact, I liked all the pics posted by MMPers.) I faithfully read picture threads, even though I never post in them. Maybe I’ll be brave someday (some day?). I think my English is broken.

I spent late afternoon/early evening potting up cuttings of coleus, begonias, geraniums and something else whose name I’ve forgotten. I already have about 10 little pots with thriving plants. I’m hoping a few of these will make it through the winter. Some are going to work, some will be in the basement, and some will be in the back bedroom and living room which are the rooms with the most light.

Need to go put away laundry and clean dishes. Haven’t decided on dinner yet, although I’ve had some crackers to tide me over.

Have a fun weekend taxi (and KeithT…we know you’re out there).

GT

I am so pleased to hear FC Dad’s surgery went well. I didn’t get to get in here post earlier because I was on jury duty.

…and…HAPPY BIRTHDAY LISSLA!

I’m in the middle of fixing vittles for din-din and then I have to finish cleaning the house. The daughter’s boyfriend is coming over for the first time tomorrow. It’s her first boyfriend, so the hubby and I are all nervous and have had “the talk” with her. Her reaction is roll her eyes and assure us she is not going to be stupid. Actually, Mr. Taters is taking this all very well. I thought for sure he’d blow a gasket when he found out the boyfriend is a senior. My daughter is a sophomore. But…he took it well.

I don’t have to report for jury duty tomorrow, but I have to go back in on Monday because I’m a potential juror for another trial. On Monday they’ll do the whole voire dire process. I hope I don’t get chosen for this one. It’s slated to last about four weeks and there is no way in hell I can miss four weeks of work.

Well, I need to finish cooking dinner.

Happy birthday Lissla! And Happy Recovery to FCD! Happy whatever to everyone else.

You guys got me into a baking mood. Luckily, I’m not a cheesecake person - I like them well enough, but brownies are my favorite dessert. And no - I’m not making brownies. I’m making muffins! Tonight’s is peanut butter oatmeal chocolate chip.

And scout ? Thanks for getting me back to posting to my blog. I was trying to get myself to get back to it, and you gave me that kick in the butt. The bread & tofu salad recipes are there - as well as a wonderful, wonderful tomato soup I made Tuesday night.

I’m sure there’s more to my life than cooking. I’m sure of it.

Susan

Sorry I’m late - I got a new desk today and have also been taking pics of a huge spider which has built a magnificent web just outside the side door of the house.

Happy birthday, Lissla!

And I’m glad to hear FCDs surgery went well.

I didn’t have to work! One of my co-workers came in to work even though he wasn’t scheduled, and all my other co-workers were like, ‘Ask him to stay, and you go home. It’s your birthday’. So I did, and went to a thing at Driving Husband’s church about marriage (I’m really good at marriage. Lots of practice) and then he took me out for dinner. I think I’ll go to bed.

Tomorrow is chores day because I haven’t done a single useful thing all day. It’s been great. Love you all. I’m very glad FCD is okay. No chihuahuas sighted? Good.

Not for nothing, but to me the best thing about yesterday was that Lissla was just so darned excited about her new skirt and new pony that the only thing she wore all day was her new skirt. Woooohooooo.

Well, dang though. I am so sorry I wasn’t here to wish you a HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY LISSLA ON the right day. My 15 year old had surgery on his jaw yesterday. ( What IS it about yesterday and surgery??? ). He’s doing okay so far, but I wasn’t here yesterday to share in the festivities.

FCM, just remember what the Surgeon told you in that little pre-op conference. Anything a wife can do to ease her husband’s pains and tensions in the difficult and stressful post-op period of time, it is her honor-bound duty to do. Any thing at all. No matter how distasteful and personally horrifying it might be. So, uh… good luck. :stuck_out_tongue:

Tell the scruffy guy I send my warmest regards.

YAY for FCD comin’ through the surgery so great. YAY for Cartoonikid comin’ through his surgery so great. YAY nobody got eaten by chihuahuas. YAY for Lissla having a great bd and not havin’ to work.

Yesterday brought a lot of stuff to go YAY about, didn’t it?

ACBG and I got an innerestin’ invite last night. Even though neither one of us is involved in any way with the upcoming wedding except that we were invitated and forked over cash for some china for the happy couple, we got an invite from the groom’s parents to come join them at the rehearsal dinner tonight. It’s being held in the really, really good Mexican restaurant in downtown Albeeeny, so we said yes. We intend on paying for what we eat and drink cause I think it’s more of a come hang out with us for a while invite. We like Mexican food so what the heck.

Puggy did Tammy (Tammie?) dump a bunch of rain on ya? We had rain but just a couple inches. It went more northy and easty from us than anything. Twenty named storms and the season ain’t over til the end of November. This could be a record year.

donkeybear you couldn’t handle it. :stuck_out_tongue:

-swampbear (YAY It’s Friday!)

Nary a chihuahua in sight! Life is good.

We got back to the hospital a little after 8, and they finally rolled my sweetie up to his room a bit after 9. He was in good enough spirits to joke, but it was also apparent that he was in pain. He was having some trouble exhaling, and I think he was somewhat dehydrated - I kept bringing him water. We hung around till a bit past 10, just to make sure he got his collar put on and the nurse tended to his BP machine which just went blank.

Turns out we were there for the nurses’ dinner time and they all went to have sammiches together. Way to tend to your post-op patients! sheesh… My inlaws were running around trying to find anyone to help, and when one finally did show up, she had no idea how the cervical collar went on, and she kept saying “This is too much for one person to deal with!” Yeah, that made me feel better.

On top of all that, I kept getting woozy. At one point, I had to go to the waiting area and lie down. Yes, I’m a wimp. I don’t do hospitals well. It’s not the smells so much as seeing the bandages and the machines and knowing that stuff is poked in to the person I’m there to see. I wonder if I’d have done better if the inlaws weren’t there, knowing I was the only one to care for my sweetie…

Anyway, he seemed to be resting better when we left, and the one whiny nurse was at his side. It was at least an hour past visiting hours and we were all exhausted, so we said our goodbyes and headed home.

Then I had a dream that I was in a town that was being taken over by the Nazis - they took all our possessions, including the carpeting off the floor. I had to bring my sweetie home from the hospital to that and I kept trying to figure out how we could escape. Then I woke up with a cat on me.

I forgot to check when I could go to the hospital this morning - I’ll call in a few hours to ask. Then I’ll do some tidying and maybe toss a load of clothes in the washer. No raking today - it’s raining. IT’S RAINING!!! YAAAAAAY!! We do need it badly. And I need to stop in the grocery for some tomato sauce - I promised I’d make some chili and some sketty sauce today.

Inlaws are leaving tomorrow afternoon - they’re going to take at least 2 days going back home. I’ve got off Monday, so I’ll have an extra free day to take care of my favorite patient. And if I have to take off on Tues, I can do that too.

I think that’s all I have for now. I need a shower and a good teeth-brushing. And breakfast. Then I need the clock to move faster so I can go get my sweetie.

TGIF!

You and my sweetie are in cahoots, aren’t you?? He keeps saying something about medicinal donuts. Yeah, I’m suuuuuure… :stuck_out_tongue:

Hope your young 'un is doing well. Heck, he’s young, he’ll be back to being a normal, annoying teenager before you know it!

If I may butt in here, I believe the remnants of Tammy are what we’re getting today and the next couple days. That storm moved up the coast pretty fast. I turned on the weather channel first thing and saw that we’ve got chances of rain for a week. Yay!! My garden will be doing a happy dance of sorts.

I had intended to work in the yard some this weekend, but not in the rain - I’ll melt!!! No really!!

We are sick! sick! sick! of rain here I tell ya! But no, ours is coming from another depression that’s oozing up from the south. :stuck_out_tongue:

fcm, if your hospitals are anything like the ones down here, be prepared to be ready to go and wait and wait and wait…

CHIHUAHUA ALERT: I must inform all that Isa tasted me several times this morning and even nibbled a bit. I gave her a couple of biscuits, though, so she didn’t eat me.

Ditto on the yay-it’s-Friday cheer!

Tupug

It’s raining cats and dogs here. I stepped in a couple of poodles on my way to the cafeteria for brekkie…

Yay, it’s Friday! Right before a 3-day weekend!

Got a lot of work to do, but that’s OK!

Just watch out for them man eatin’ chihuahuas. Lissla can only pray so much.

Today at work we’re having bean soup! I have a whole crockpot of beanie goodness simmering in my office as we speak. We’re a cook~y place around here; periodically we have cook-offs and socials, many inviting the participation of employees. I usually make someting. This year I made 16-bean soup, vegetarian. One year I got second place, for a delicious pumpkin-black bean soup. It was YUMSTERS. Another year I got third for my vegetarian chili. Never a first place, sigh! Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.

Hurray for FCD!! So glad he made it through. Sorry about your woosies, Mom.

Lissla, glad your birthday was work-free. I alas have to work on MY birthday, which is a mere three days away, now. (It’s easy to remember 10-10–Ellen the Perfect 10! )
Swampy, neato on the rehearsal dinner invite! I’ve noticed that rehearsal dinners are becoming bigger and bigger–not just for the wedding party anymore! More fun!

Donkey/Bear … are we gonna hafta turn the hose on you?

Triple hurray on the TGIF! Yippie!

I’m hungry! I could get a snackie or I could wait a while for lunch. Decisions! Decisions! I’m kinda in the mood for a fish sammich. Maybe some fish and fries from Long John Silver’s. And cookies. I want cookies.
