I met my husband on a computer message board (you know, you’re allowed to call them BBSs) 14 years ago. I helped raise three of his kids. WE have three kids. Happy as clams.
HOWEVER. There are definitely better things I should have been doing with my time. Getting a steady job. Making ANY local friends. Actually attending my college courses. At the time, any and all of these things should have been far more important than tying up the phone line on local BBSs.
I won’t argue with the life I have ended up with as a result, but that’s all in hindsight. At the time, I was young and dumb and wasted my time on the computer when I should have been doing other things.
So, yeah: too much time AND idle hands. Things worked out beautifully all things considered, but I can’t say I don’t sometimes wonder how far I could have gone if I hadn’t spent so much time fucking off on the computer.
And the bears down at the lake could smell the peanut butter and banana sandwich in your pocket and maul you to death. Agreed: The ripping out and lake throwing is plenty bad. Thank you for pointing this out before one of us went too far. You are the fucking best!
You know, I haven’t been around for a while and this thread is heart warming. Not because Guin was pitted, but because I recognize so many names in the thread! (I’m not entirely sure that the previous sentence wasn’t a fragment. Seems on in common parlance, though.)
The Pitting would only happen if they were sub-standard boobies. I’m sure any number of us would be more than happy to give you an impartial eveluation. Make sure the photos are clear and cover every angle.
For a small fee, I could arrange for a very toasty pitting for you. Maybe we could work the booby angle a bit. It would also help if you did something dumb, but it isn’t strictly necessary.
But that was you and you’re projecting your experience onto others who spend lots of time on the internet. Guin is obviously productive. I had my degree and was teaching. Now I’m retired.
It just seems naive to think that we can know what someone else “should” be doing with their own time.

I don’t think it’s difficult at all to see both sides of the issue.
On one hand, it’s her life and it’s her business how she wants to spend her time. Nobody has the right to tell an adult what to do, as long as she’s not hurting anyone else or committing a crime.
On the other hand, it’s pretty sad to look back at a thread from FIVE YEARS ago and see that not much has changed in her life, except now she has 20,000 more posts. When I consider a young woman of 22, with good parents and a college education, with so much potential and so much to offer the world, has pretty much frittered away some of the best years of her life, I have to pause at that. I certainly would pit her about it, but it does make me go hmm.
I don’t think an anonymous message board poster is the person that should be doing an intervention, but if she doesn’t have anyone else in her life that will tell her what she may need to hear, then so be it.

Guin, you’ve always seemed like a decent and intelligent girl. Has becoming independent and making a life for yourself really been abondoned as a goal? Do you not worry that posting ~30 posts per day to your various communities is how your OCD has snuck back into controlling your life? Like trublmakr said, it’s your life. But jeez.
