It all started a handful (or more?) years ago, on a nice spring day, in REI. They were having a clearance sale of winter gear. Snowshoes were on sale. I had never owned snowshoes, I had never really desired to own snowshoes, but at that price, well, I got 'em. They’re fun, but I don’t get lots of opportunity to use 'em around here.

Fast forward a couple of years, I find a snowshoe race. It’s lots of fun & I’ve done a couple of 'em now & even reported (at least) one in the MMP. Somebody ::Glances sideways across the state:: replies, "Hey, if you like that, you should try this. This being primative biathlon. Unlike the Olympic sport of cross-country skies & .22LR bolt-action rifles, primative biathlon is muzzleloaders & wooden snowshoes. Neither of which I own. While I’ve fired guns before, I’ve never handled black powder, different & more difficult than just inserting a bullet into a chamber. Yeah, not something you just go off & do on a whim.

Hmmmm. Looking around, I see there’s something called Summer Biathlon, running & shooting .22s. The good thing with this series in that you don’t need a gun, they have them there that you can use for the race. Between registration & the race beginning, there’s a mandatory first timers clinic (designed down to people who have never even held/fired a gun before), then some practice rounds to follow. This I can do relatively easily as I am a runner & I don’t need to own a gun - I’m there! Maybe I’ll try this as sort of a test run for doing a primative biathlon.
However, a knee injury keeps me out of the first two (of three) races this summer. Do I go to this last one, due north of PGH?

I’m on the mend, but not really back yet; maybe I should wait to race &/or just do a little 5k near home, but that means I miss the series for the year. Oh yeah, I’ve got another event to attend on Fri - a sesquicentennial for a somewhat nearby town that we’re scheduled to work at.

A few PMs, & a phone call or two:
::Phone rings::
OW: Hello
Me I know this is going to sound strange, but can you tell your husband Spiderman is on the phone.
OW: Hold on a sec. BTW, I’ve heard stranger.
Ruble & OW come up to watch / cheer me on!

I did pretty good too! It’s a time-trial start & I started diffle (DFL) but quickly & steadily picked people off & shot pretty well too, enough for a mid-pack finish!

We talk some after the race & agree to part ways for a little bit, Ruble goes & gets some bang-sticks & I go to lunch at the Blue Canoe in Titusville (Doggio, you should come next year as they were having some brewfest in the streets; sadly I didn’t partake. Between many hours of driving & shooting planned; drinking is not the best idea.) We meetup again at his gun club, where I get some instruction in & practice firing muzzleloaders. I think I may just be investing in the equipment to do said primative biathlons!

Thanks for coming out…& helping me find another avenue to spend money, Ruble

Pre-hijack question of the day, what Mumper/Doper have you had the most fun with or who do you want to meet & hang out with the most?

First! And Blurf. To amswer the OP I would have to say Mooooommm and Swampy.

First!

I’ll meet with anyone, though I would like to meet with swampbear again!

I’ve met a bunch of Dopers and a number of Mumpers, too, and while **swampy **was a pleasant dinner companion (even if he did call me a cheap date) I’ve got to say I really enjoyed the times I got to get together with Tugig, and I’m looking forward to seeing him again at BooFaeFest. I would really like to meet the original Mumper, RueDeDay, but he left the Dope long ago.

If we can count original Mumpers from Rue’s days, I think I’ve met a total of 10, but I’m not naming names on the chance that I’ll forget someone and cause bad feelings. Because I’m nice, dammit! And I’m one degree away from our on-again-off-again Mumper BusDude/CatDude - he met my sister when he visited Baltimore some years back.

Anyway, it’s the start of another work week. **FCD **is moving into the bldg next door - I had to run over there with some ibuprofen and the pictures he brought from home to hang in his office. He’s got TWO windows!! One looks outside, and the other looks into the hall. He’s planning to paint something to hang in the hall window - like an alien looking out. He so funny!

Thus beginneth my week. Happy Moanday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 76 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 94, mostly cloudy, and a 60 percent chance of rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon. We shall see. The big plan today is to defilthyfy da cave. Fun times ahead. I shall make my world famous Eyetalian chikin for dindin with sides TBD. Tonight I shall attend the Vestry meetin’ over to the church house. A group is presentin’ a proposal to get rid of the ugly paintin’ behind the Altar and replace it with a nice wood carvin’ of The Last Supper which the church happens to own. The paintin’ would be moved to the Parish Hall as it was a gift but has no place where it currently is behind the Altar. It’s really distractin’. I’ll attempt to link to a picture I have of ugly paintin’ later. Right now I cannot brain enough to do that.

I’d like to meet all the Mumpers. Maybe not all at one time, but in small groups.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, on to cave spiffin’. Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

I’ve met several Mumpers over the years. I just recently ran across a picture from a Cleveland Dopefest that has Ruble, (I don’t remember, but I presume it’s OW), and **freckafree **. I’d really like to go on the 26th. Hopefully I can find a way to make it happen.

My CPAP mask broke over the weekend and I had my first introduction to sleep paralysis and night terrors. Let’s just say I WILL get a new mask today or else I’m not sleeping alone tonight.

In other news, RT will be passing through and I’ll probably get to see him for the amount of time that it takes him to pull into the local truck stop so that I can hand him his latest prescription.

Otherwise, I have to tear down my stuff from Saturday’s Art Walk and possibly work in my classroom. Oh, and I’m going to give a ‘reminder’ to my aide about the goings on this week.

ETA: The order of my post sounds suspicious! If I don’t get a new mask, my mom can spend the night upstairs with me. I’m not auditioning for others to fill the spot since RT is only passing through.

Happy Monday, everyone!

Good uhh… afternoon all! I think I overslept.

I don’t think I have a Mumper I’d most like to meet, I don’t pick favourites

I’ve only met two Dopers, and both have posted in the MMP, one fairly often, one only a couple of times. I doubt I’m gonna make it to the US to meet more of you any time soon anyway.

This week’s main excitement is gonna be getting started moving- I’ve just paid the deposit and first month’s rent, and I pick up the keys on Wednesday. I’m taking one car load o’ stuff down then, then most of the rest next week. It’s all getting a little complicated trying to decide what’s going where, when. I don’t have to be fully out of here until the end of the month.

one of my favorite songs!

I think they called that “living” back in the day. :stuck_out_tongue:

Depends on the extent of the knee injury. Did you see a doc? How is it healing? What does the doc say? Do you have ongoing problems with the knee?

Personally, I have a knee that, shall we say, misbehaves, so I don’t mess with it when it’s misbehaving. I’d just as soon not need another arthroscopic surgery.

Not too shabby! Congrats!

Are you looking for compliments?

Haven’t met anyone, but I did once bail on Spidey due to work, illness, and living thirty miles from Boston. Sorry, Spidey. At least I didn’t give you whatever plague I had.

I’ve mostly met FCM, met a couple of other MMP’ers (completely forgot who) at Moooooms place last year, unfortunately I can’t make it to the DC fest this year.

Need to get dressed (well, put clothes on) in a bit, I have a painting contractor and the new door installer coming by to give estimates/take measurements respectively. Also have soccer practice (weather permitting, looks like a good chance of rain today).

And so to break fast.

Happy Moonday!

I don’t know what it’s doing outside. It looks cloudy.

I’m a blurfy mess this morning. I didn’t sleep well last night and had to get up early for irk. Normally I have Moonday mornings off but I changed my schedule to meet client demands.

I’ve met a few MMPers
All were nice

SSDD

MetalMouse, you met **BBBobbio **and **Tugig **at my place. The rest were non-dopers…

I don’t have favourites amongst the mumpers, I think you’re all a great bunch. I am looking forward to meeting some of you soon though, it’ll be fun!

It’s a dull, overcast blurfy kind of day here. Weather can’t make a decision between rain, sun or just clouds so we’ve had all three so far. I don’t mind 'cos I am inside all day but I would like it not to be wet when I have to venture out and go home.

Three day week for me though, we are off on our travels on Thursday - well, we’re off to that there London for an overnight stay, then off to the hairyport on Friday for our flight.

I hereby declare da cave all spiffed up. OK, as good as it’s goin’ to get. 'Tis cloudy and hyoooooooooomid out as in the temp is 81 Amurrkin but it feels like 91 Amurrkin. Come on rain!

:dubious:

It was a pleasure and a lot of fun for us as well! And trust her; having met us you can understand that she really has heard stranger things on our phone line.

To the questions first: the one I want to meet the most without question is Swampy. Its actually one of my goals on my Bucket List. Ever since I first wondered into this strange universe called the Monday Morning Post he has been one of my personal favorites. And with all the times he and I have flirted back and forth, the OW likes and wants to meet him as well.

In actually meeting: I know I met Moom and a couple others at Norinew’s wake but with the sadness around the occasion and circumstances I can’t call that a lot of fun. For that I would have to say Doggio when he was here for the hockey thing. Besides meeting him and a lot of other unique and fun people, alcohol was involved at several points and I got to ride him “bitch” on the Sportster (which couldn’t have been a lot of fun or comfortable for him) to a couple of my favorite locals places and spend more quality time with him. That was one of those that was so good it seems like yesterday even though years have passed.
PS ---- Spidey ---- I talked with Turtle (our Delaware friend) and people do run the primitives on modern snowshoes. Those ones/people get to use modern in-line guns. If you want to call or go e-mails to discuss details, it makes an easier-to-use alternative rifle you can check your local store closings for. Calibers .45 and .50 seem more common but as Turtle pointed out the .58-.75 stuff can be easier to handle.

For everyone else, a video on what we’re talking about.

And moire the kind I've done without snow but much more funny clothing

That is indeed the OW. And we’re down to a slim maybe on the 26th. We’ve been talking about it and between the non-refundables we already have for that weekend plus adding that weekend ------- it may just not work. We’ll have to see how some other things pan out before we can say for sure.

How about groups of one big-boy?

New girl starts today and has a vacation starting tomorrow. I knew this when I hired her. She is gonna be a good employee though I think.

**ruble **- I believe it was **gt **who came with me when we met. That was a forever ago…

Man, it’s been a real Moanday here. My boss asked me to draw up several caution labels to go into some trainers, and it turns out CREO doesn’t allow you to import picture files in any format. I’ve got to figure out how to convert a .svg to a .dxf via whatever means I can use that won’t screw up the fidelity of the original image. The logo is just to complex for me to duplicate. Wonder if I can find it on line somewhere???

Yeah, I love my job, but this is one of *those *days.

Up. Caffeinated, and sheveled. At LAX waiting for my flight.

: holds up lighter :

(Bolding mine)Dude, it’s a biathalon, not The Hunger Games!

I plan on keeping time available for [del]axe murders [/del]Dopefests and such next year.

I got to hang with The Cute One [sup][sup]TM [/sup][/sup](I miss her. :frowning: ), and I get to see the AWOL hockeymonkey during the season. But Pub Crawl with Ruble takes the cake (also the reverse ABCs at the Obey House)

The old-lady-comic was also ---------- an experience.
