GW Bush Wins In A LANDSLIDE!!!!!!!

Boy did GW get pummelled about health care. I am a little more libertarian, so it didn’t really affect my vote. I could care less about who was the better socialist.

I will admit that I might have gotten a “lttle” wild with Gore’s record. I’m feeling a little red-faced that I am guilty of Goreitis.
However, I did think it was interesting that I heard Bush hitting Gore on logging and high gas prices. Then I heard Gore pandering to Detroit about building “new” cars.

Sorry, I just wanted to make this easier to find come Nov. 8th.

Well, NPR had a discussion yesterday on TOTN with the editors of several liberal rags who seemed to think that Dubya was going to win, if only because Nader would split the Democratics/Leftists in much the same way Perot split the Republicans/Centerists in '96.

I did the early vote thing yesterday, and I pretty much voted the Republican ticket at Federal and State level, but switched to the Libertarians at the county and city level (a Libertarian Sheriff and County Tax Assessor would be a hoot!).

Vote for Harry Potter if you want. It wouldn’t be much different. If you think Bush is superior to Gore, you are so woefully under and misinformed that it isn’t even worth wasting further typing on.

Hmm… lemme guess, Hastur… you like Gore?

Sigh.

Yep, that’s it. That’ll make him “see the light.” Atta boy. I’m sure he’ll go right out and vote for Gore after that powerful bit of persuasion from you!

Hastur growled:

Well it appears my father is vindicated in his “Gore is Evil” speeches- Here we have Al endorsed by no less than a Duke of Hell.

If you have read any Lovecraft, you would see Hastur is not a duke of Hell. Or involved with Hell, period. Xians are so cute.

While I was cranky and tired when I wrote my previous response, I think it holds true. This demonizing of Gore I find appalling and evidentiary of a lack of looking at all the facts. While many on here may not agree with me about why Bush is a poor choice, I think the reasons are clear.

The man has a poor track record in Texas. Since he took over from Ann Richards there have been such things as Bush signing ‘Jesus Day’ as a holiday. But if you thought that was all, you are mistaken.

The Bush Record as Texas Governor

50th in spending for teachers' salaries
49th in spending on the environment
48th in per-capita funding for public health
47th in delivery of social services
 42nd in child-support collections
41st in per-capita spending on public education and
5th in percentage of population living in poverty
1st in air and water pollution
1st in percentage of poor working parents without insurance
1st in percentage of children without health insurance
 1st in executions (avg. 1 every 2 weeks for Bush's 5 years)

Bush does not stand for the Constitution. Saying “there ought to be limits to freedom,” Gov. George W. Bush has filed a legal complaint against the owners of a Web site, gwbush.com that lampoons his White House bid.

Not to mention that, but he opposes Wicca and wants it removed as a religion. I think having a president who does not respect freedom of religion and freedom of speech is scary.

If you want more information about Bush and what he’s done thus far, here’s a link http://www.bushfiles.com/bush_toc.html

Wake up and smell the mochachino… Clinton may have claimed to not inhale, but Bush snorted half of Bolivia.

Hastur, I wouldn’t read too much in the rankings. No matter who the governor is, the states that have a large population of poor immigrants (read: border Mexico) are always going to suffer when it comes to these sorts of rankings. For instance, how are you going to collect child support when Dad is in another country? How many uninsured mothers and children will you have when a significant portion of the population doesn’t qualify for Medicaid because they are in the country illegally? How can you begin to compare the education systems of Florida, California, New Mexico, and Texas vs. states like Ohio, Michigan and Illinois?

Has Bush done wonders in Texas? Probably not. But I also doubt whether these sorts of numbers can help a voter glean any useful information about how good/bad a leader Bush is.

And what about the articles and op-ed pieces that are at the link I gave in my last response? Those are from the Texas Observer. They show the caliber of man we would have in Dubya as President. I think that is scary.

I also think the information you seem to find not pertinent is very pertinent. The funding for education has nothing to do with immigration.

So? You know what the cost of living is in Texas? It has been one of the lowest in the country. Hence, you don’t have to pay teachers as much.

I don’t even know what spending on the environment means. We have plenty of wildflowers in Texas. They don’t cost much.

Texas isn’t a big welfare state. Why is that bad? A lot of people don’t need public funding since they have insurance or can afford to go to the doctor. How much is the per capita spending? What state has the highest, and how much is that?

UPS? Again, I have no idea what that means. If people need social services, they are permitted to come and get them.

Again, I have no idea what this means. Is the state 42nd in children requiring support in a divorced family? Could that explain why they’d be 42nd in collection?

But the cost of living is so low, if you make below the poverty level, you can live just as good as someone in Massachusetts making 3 times as much. 5 years ago you could rent a 3 bedroom house in San Antonio for $300 dollars a month. Rents have gone up in the big four cities but not that much.

Not per capita. Texas has more water than just about any other state. 5 times the size of all of New England in land mass. Of course it is going to have 20 to 40 times more water pollution than, say, Rhode Island.
Houston does have an air pollution problem. There are a lot of refineries there. You know there is not a single refinery in all of New England. Yet all these people drive. And are voting for Gore. What do you want to do, move all the refineries to Mexico? Or stop driving?

Yep. I wouldn’t have insurance either if I didn’t have a job. I think it is a rip off. Good for them. What is the percentage? What state has the lowest?

Yep. Cheap health care kind of negates the need for insurance. Funny how that works.

Yep. If anything, Governor Bush ain’t been frying them fast enough for most of his constituants. But the slow grind of justice.

BTW, how is crime doing in Texas these days? You have stats on that?

Oh, and funnny that Texans like W. And reelected him though we almost always throwing the Gov out of office after one term.

:cough: You never heard of libel?

Oh, damn. I just went through all that work responding to your post, only to find out you are a wacko. Now you are just making stuff up!!!

I feel the same way about the right to bear arms.

Yes I have. The site he decried falls under parody. Which is protected speech. If you don’t want to be made fun of, don’t put yourself out in the public eye.

No, I’m not. It is being discussed on this board right now.
Here is the link: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=43314

Or are you slamming me for being pagan?

JMullaney: don’t beat your head against the wall too hard.

The list Hastur cited has been thoroughly de-bunked in another thread when it first came out; even Gore-supporters found almost all the claims dubious (which speaks highly of their intellectual honesty).

Just ignore Hastur, and do what I did: VOTE!

[hijack]

Hastur: I’m glad I was able to liven up your day! :stuck_out_tongue:
Take a few deep breaths and maybe your panties will crawl out of the crack of your behind.

As was already noted, if you wish to convert us red-neck goobers to your way of thinking, shouting at us is about the 50th (on a list of 50).

And them there’s firm noomeruls, pardner.

That’s why we got judges in this country, to decide whether something is libelous or a parody. You are of course entitled to your opinion.

Yes, you are.

He said witchcraft shouldn’t have a paid ministry in the U.S. Army.

You said he wanted to make Wicca illegal.

See any difference there?

Now maybe there shouldn’t be clerics at all in the military. Maybe people who are being shot at and dying should have religious council. But, as a matter of practicallity, you can’t have a 1000 clerics of every religious background sitting around at every base camp. Maybe the top five or so world religions is the best we can hope to do.

(Although MAS*H would have had a lot more people to help out in the E.R.)

From http://63.103.6.126/religion/1999/6/29barrwicca.asp

"Last week George W. Bush, governor of Texas and 2000 GOP presidential frontrunner, was asked by ABC News about Barr’s concerns on Wicca in the military as well as the posting of the Ten Commandments in public buildings.

Bush said that he did not believe “witchcraft is a religion,” and he hoped “the military would rethink this decision.” Bush was then asked whether he agreed
with the recent U.S. House of Representatives’ vote that said states have the constitutional power to place the Ten Commandments in public buildings, including public schools. He said that he had no problem with the religious
codes being placed in every public building."

From http://www.webwhiteblue.org/debate/2000-10-15/bush/question/

“Whether Mormon, Methodist, Jewish, or Muslim, Americans should be able to participate in their constitutional free exercise of religion. I do not think witchcraft is a religion, and I do not think it is in any way
appropriate for the U.S. military to promote it.”

Don’t try and claim that I am wrong or that he isn’t against Wicca. It is not out of the realm of reality that he plans to remove Wicca from the military as a first step before going further.

I don’t see anything in the above quote about Wicca!

Alright, let’s operate.
Father Mulkahy, sponge.
Rabbi Shemp, scapel.
Sheik Ackmed, I need suction.
Reverend Jones, I need 50 ccs of hydroprotezene, stat!
Hey, get that boy out of here. This is no place for children. What? The Dali Lama. Well, I don’t know if he’s the reincarnation of a 3000 year old soul or not, but he’d better just sit in the corner.
Jojo! You ganchuse! Get that cow out of here.
Nurse, sponge.
I don’t think we’re going to save this one. Aw heck, his dog tags says he’s Wiccan. And our Wiccan priestess steps on a landmine last week. Dang the god[s]!

Oh, you Pagans are just so naughty…

Is wicca an actual religion more than just “feelgood?:)” Ive looked alot into wicca and imho its just an alternative religion to christanity like most atheists who only really don’t believe in god.

Lemme get this straight… Hastur posts a bunch of wildly misleading information that’s been shown to be innaccurate already… and he says those that disagree with him are misinformed?

Perhaps Hastur has some mental issues to deal with? Just speculating.

Sad to say, I think Gore may be out of the running because he didn’t take the gloves off before, and now it’s too late.
