I love the movies. To me the Oscars is like the Super Bowl (which I also love.) I plan my day around the show, enter contests about who’ll win what, bitch annd moan when obvious contenders don’t win. Heck I even care about the editting and art direction awards when they come on. But I’m a geek.
Speaking of Tom Cruise, I was so appalled by Baba Wawa’s softballing him on her pre-show interview. She DID ask him humiliating, none-of-your-business questions about Nicole and his new g/f, whatever her name is. But when she gimlet-eyed him and asked him about Scientology, she let him get away with his usual bluff. No “isn’t it true that Scientology is anti-gay?” or “how can a legitimate religion charge money?”
Remember when Baba was a real journalist? She didn’t even ask Sarah Jessica Parker what we all want to know: Is Big coming back to Sex and the City next season?

Scientologists are forbidden, by order of the great Elron, from seeing a large number of movies, including 2001, because seeing those movies will “restimulate” ancient memories and cause them damage. Tom admitted to having seen it in his monologue, which means that he’ll have to spend another $10,000 or so to have the damage done to his psyche by having seen that movie repaired.
It’s actually possible that Tom’s already had that damage repaired, but odds are they’ll still make him do penance for mentioning this forbidden movie.

Paltrow was hideous, as usual. I think Halle Berry’s dress was gorgeous, and Denzel was very, very handsome.
Oh, ugh! Gwyneth looks awful!
You know, I wasn’t really crazy about the pink dress she wore the year she won Best Actress, either. Don’t get me wrong-the dress itself was BEAUTIFUL. But…It. Didn’t. Fit!
Did anyone else besides me notice that? It was way too big and she looked like a little girl playing dress up in mommy’s closet!
(I hate the nipple showing thing that seems to be a new trend-can we say, tacky?)
Okay, whoever dressed Faith Hill should be arrested for crimes against fashion.
I like Nicole’s dress-she always looks good.
Oh, I like Cameron’s dress! I like vintage looking outfits. But I don’t like her hair. Admittedly, the cut of the sleeves should have been more flowing, less form-fitting. Or sleeveless. But the dress is very 1930s!
Kirsten Dunst looked good. It’s not something I would wear, but it suits her. Mauve is a good color for her.
J-Lo would have looked better if her dress didn’t have all those wire supports in the bodice. It could have been a BEAUTIFUL dress, but all you see are the stays, not the dress itself. Which is too bad. Her hair looks looked beautiful.
I HAVE to find a picture of Kate Winslet. Wait, I’m checking out Discover Kate…

No, you couldn’t see her nipples. I saw them just fine, thankyouverymuch, as did Heloise, who was watching with me. Certainly the areola wasn’t visible, but the nipples were protruding quite clearly.
Not only did she look tacky and skanky, but it wasn’t even flattering. In one shot when she was standing in the wings, they were hanging lopsided! Ew!

Halle Berry was simply breathtaking. I can’t stand her, but I could look at her all day long. Damn, she’s beautiful.

I think what really made her look skanky was the three inches of smeary black eye liner. Someone really should tell her blondes don’t need that much black eye liner.

I could definitely see her nipples, and I’m talking about the areolae. Not that it was that exciting, those flabby pancake boobs she has just aren’t that nice looking, and the dress sure didn’t flatter their lack of form either.

Back to Gwyneth’ dress: Oh, the humanity! That dress was hideous. I couldn’t see her nipples (except in profile) and to me, that was part of what made the dress so bad–it looked like she had undergone a nipple-ectomy. <shudder>
My vote for best dress goes to Sharon Stone–the back was fantastic.

Gwenyth with rasty dress and all still makes my day. I watched this on an excellent brand new Panasonic plasma screen (whatta picture!) and was unable to see nipples. Darn.

I do think what ruined it for many an actress was the hair.
Cameron, J lo and even my beloved Audrey Tatou all had hair that completely ruined the look. Messy bedhead looks swell with jeans, etc… not with Couture.

Yes, Gwenyth’s nipples were visible. And she looked very trampy. Cameron Diaz’s dress was awful. Jennifer Lopez looked terrible, which is great – why aren’t her 15 minutes up yet, anyway?
But on the plus side, Elijah Wood looked fabulous.
