My wife will be picking her copy up on her way home today - I don’t imagine I’ll see much of her this afternoon.
Got my copy at midnight Central European Time last night (an hour before London), and read the first 3 chapters before heading to bed. Today will probably end up being me sitting on the couch reading half the book (though for OotP, I read the whole thing in one day, so that may happen again.) Got to say, the first few chapters certainly draw you in…very intriguing!
Ahhh! Now I want to go get it! Bookstore opens in less than half an hour! But…tired! And have class tomorrow!
Oh fuck it. I’m gonna ride my bike up there. If I get hit by a car in the dark, make sure my Harry Potter books go to a deserving kid.
We were home with the book by 12:15… it was really quite amazing how well organized they were! We started read it aloud (my girlfriend and I), but after about 1/2 of chapter one realized we were too tired to even finish chapter one.
Good god. The book fell open onto a random page and I spotted two spoilers right off the bat.
Just got back from Wal-Mart. Went there to get earplugs (for sleeping in tomorrow) and pick up a few other things. Realized as I was leaving that I’d be there at midnight when the books went on sale. The first few sentances are great! I’m sure I’ll get through at least a couple of chapters before I fall asleep. I will be able to sleep in tomorrow, after all!
This is not, repeat NOT a spoiler, but I must say it.
THIS MUCH HOOPLA OVER A DAMNED BOOK AND THEY LEFT A GREAT FREAKING TYPO RIGHT ON PAGE TEN!!!
Here’s a hint, kids – for the kind of money you guys are making, you should follow up spell check with a human editor. “Site” does not equal “Sight.” Not that there was much sign of editing in the last too books, but this is just too much.
Sigh. Gaudere strikes again. (In my own defense, I was not paid mega millions to write that post. Plus, it’s 2:48 a.m.)
WOO-HOO!! I walked out of the library at 20 minutes after midnight with my copy. I can’t wait to read it!
My copy was supposed to arrive this morning in the post. No sign of it so far
Woo-Hoo!! I am now home with three (count them three) copies in my possession. Already have the boxes packed (except for the books) to mail to Iraq in the morning. I plan to be up the rest of the night reading, so I’ll have no problem making the post office at 08:30. Life is good! I am a happy mouse.
Well, my copy is here in Lancaster already, waiting to be delivered tomorrow. Although, The Highwayman and I went out for a late dinner, decided we fancied a coffee, then I remembered the party at B and N. It took about 40 minutes to get through the line at Starbucks, and they botched my order :(.
We were just looking around and enjoying the later hours, but I did find something I needed , so at about 5 to 12 I hit the line for the cashier – 30 seconds too late. They closed all the cashiers out 'til they were gonna sell HBP. I was at the head of the line. The kid behind us was, well, he was too excited to remember manners. When the cashier opened up again he just shoved past us to get his book. So, I am the proud owner of the First Book Sold That Wasn’t HBP After HBP Was Released. Wheelock’s Latin, for those interested in details.
I’ll be 'cited though when I get mine tomorrow :D. Although I’ve got to choose between Harry and an EQ raid. Yeah, I’m not so grown up.
Hafta work today. Boo hiss.
Husband has sworn that he will pick up HBP today (reserved copy). Colleague at work called yesterday to ask if I could work next Saturday for her, and she will work this Sunday for me–so I get tomorrow off to READ!!!
Happy day.
Am ignoring the Other Thread–thank og for spoiler alerts!
I woke up at 6:30 this morning. I stayed in bed for two hours, knowing the book wasn’t here yet, but I can’t get back to sleep. I’m going for coffee. UPS.com doesn’t even say my copy’s out for delivery yet, so I think I’m safe.
Woo hoo! My book arrived early this morning. I’m really enjoying it so far. But I thought I’d take a bit of “time off” to read the SDMB.
Well, 5 minutes after posting, it arrived. And I’ve finished it. And I’ll be rereading it soon.
Mine is due to arrive today, we’ll see when but UPS reports it is in Atlanta and due for delivery today!
Walked to the post office and there it was, in all its splendor.
And, I gotta say, damn! It’s hot outside. I sweated on the box that held my new book!
OK, I’m a geek.
I walked to Border’s last night, and waited in line until 12:01am. And bought my audio version. And the hardback copy arrived in my mailbox about ten minutes ago.
Let the orgy begin!
Regards,
Shodan
Waited at the big B&N party on 86th Street for three hours. Walked home with the book at 12:35. Up to page 27, after falling asleep promptly upon arrival
